Potentially useful to power capacitor dash cams when parked?

Also good for camping I guess.

Not sure how accurate 8000mAh is, but at this price, worth a try!

      Tried 2 of these. Both times the battery expanded after leaving it to charge in the sun, less than a month of use.

      Not worth the size and money if you ask me.

        My experience also.

        Hot sun + rechargeable battery = poor results.

        Good idea in the lab, doesn't work well in the field.

        • mechanically "neat", but not waterproof at all, he's only talking about the appearance of the enclosure.
          Electrically it's a nightmare - no voltage limiting when charging a LiPo is asking for fireworks.

      Just buy a regular charger for about $20 and you'll have a better experience.

    I've got one of these (from eBay), and there is no way they have 8000mAh. It might have 1500mAh if you're really pushing it.

    The solar charge will also not completely charge in a full day, I had to top it up via DC.

    If you're looking for an el cheapo to tether onto your backup (and your device inside said backup), this could work. If you're actually wanting a proper power bank or solar charging solution, don't bother, you need something much bigger - I have a Ravpower 15W, which is a folding set. Yes, it's much bigger, yes it isn't a powerbank, BUT it is a quality solar panel into which I can plug a quality power bank as well as a second device.

      • Suaoki have some nice products in their line, so if this is as good as their floating water bottle light (also solar powered), $70 isn't a bad buy.

        • Most companies putting their obnoxious logos on these devices are just rebranding operators. You can get them from many sellers without the logos. Identical product.

          I can think of many rebrandists but none come to mind in the above category. Maybe I have been on ebay buying from Chinese stores for too long.

          Look carefully at another one and compare pictures (and stated specs). If it is the same, chances are it is the same. Especially in this product category (solar chargers) where there aren't any 'elite' brands that conmmand a premium where counterfeit is a problem. I bought from one brand once that had mere stickers put on its products that were super-easy to peel off.

      Can it charge other items and recharge simultaneously?

      • I'm not really sure, I gave it to someone else after I deduced it couldn't charge my 2800mAh device to completion (got to maybe half). One would hope it could work as a passthrough at the least, though I doubt it will charge itself and another device (too slow).

    Please don't try to use it like this. The air temperature inside a parked car can reach 70 degrees. Imagine how hot a black-coloured item will get, sitting in full sun, when the air temperature around it is 70 degrees.

    I have had some black plastic items partially melt from being on the dash, it really does get that hot. It would be dangerous to let the power bank get that hot, because of the batteries it contains.

      You are forgetting that the product is DESIGNED to be placed in the full sun.

      If it's not suitable for use inside a car, then it's not suitable for use outside the car either.

    Absolute rubbish.

    • the unit's claimed storage capacity is a nice joke to tell to friends
    • heat is the enemy of Li-Ion/Li-Polymer batteries. This unit would be great if you want that undersized battery of dubious origin to not last as well

    If you want to charge when on-the-go, the (far larger) flip-out solar panels costing 65-ish dollars are the only half-decent option for semi-portable charging. And even then, ideally with a large-ish (real) USB battery bank to store the energy (placed well out of heat sources)

    As usual, I will refrain from saying what I really think about TinyDeal. But suffice to say, I have had some 'experience'.

    Don't buy solar charging batteries, the solar panel is next to useless.

    The concept of solar charging lithium ion batteries isn't all that practical when you consider that:

    1. You really need a large surface area to have a decently sized solar panel to charge the powerbank in a single day (folding designs would help, but that makes the powerbank very cumbersome).

    2. Lithium batteries degrade very quickly if exposed to high temperatures. Putting a black coloured light and heat absorbing panel on it makes the issue worse…

    Put two and two together and you have a pretty lousy product..

      Surprise! This device does not use lithium ion batteries.

        So, what scrimshaw wrote still stands. Sunlight isn't your friend here.
