Domino's 20min Guarantee

https://www.dominos.com.au/inside-dominos/technology/deliver…

Anyone tried it yet? $3 more, if your order fits their criteria

Domino’s now offers a 20 minute delivery guarantee, when it’s safe to do so. We have worked on new technology that allows an algorithm for online orders based on various factors, including how busy the store is, the distance of the delivery and driver safety and the size of the order to determine if we can deliver your order in the service guarantee.

If your delivery meets the algorithm’s criteria you will be offered to purchase the guarantee option during the online order process. A small fee applies and should your delivery not arrive in the guaranteed time, we will email you a free pizza voucher for your next order.

If anybody is so inclined on eating pizza that they cannot wait 30 minutes instead of 20, what they need is a dietician and a psychologist.

    As soon as possible.

    • What about prayer?

        That's what they're livin' on…

It is a pretty clever promo.
The $3 fee covers the cost of ingredients etc. if they fail, and you need to place another order to use the coupon. Who orders just one pizza? So they get a little more business from that too.
No doubt they will have some incentive/penalty for the poor drivers too.
Reminds me of the opening pages of Snowcrash.

    • Who orders just one pizza?

      I have plenty of times.

      • For delivery?

Don't they regularly sell pizza for $4-5?

    • Pretty bad risk return hey, I wouldn't pay $3 chance for something that normally cost $5, certain.

Yep it works. Myself and colleagues cheated the system by individually ordering delivery to our workplace during storms and flooding. Each one of us received an email saying that they couldn't make it within 20 minutes due to "extreme weather conditions" and we got the free pizza voucher.

Why would anyone waste $3 for this.

Whenever I have it delivered I get asap, hopefully this doesn't change with this bs charge

Why would anyone waste $3 for this.

The same reason people regularly waste money on express postage for non-urgent items. We want things now, now, now.

      • I wanted it last week dammit!

    • You have to get ready to go out somewhere that you need to bring food to. You will be fine if you order food and start showering, getting dressed etc and the food arrives within 20 minutes. 10 minutes extra or longer though and you will be late or looking at having to show up without food. It's a contrived scenario but you asked.

  • It sounds like they only offer the guarantee when it's probable they'll meet the deadline, so why pay extra? The pizza probably won't get there any faster unless the drivers throw driver safety out the window so you're really just betting against the odds for a freebie

    • Yeah. I suppose the option just shows you that "you probably won't have to wait that long anyway so calm down".

  • Anyone tried delivery via the robot option yet? Apparently a robot drives to you with your pizza instead of the driver.

    • I don't think it's publically available yet.
I asked last week and Domino's said

… there is more that needs to be done in regards to public policy before he’s fully deployed and operating out of stores on a regular basis. That time frame is unknown and will vary country by country. We have already been using DRU for some pre-approved orders through the testing phase and the customers loved meeting him. …
