D-Cell 6AHr NiMH LSD $5.60/Pair @ Dick Smith

70

While popular items like Eneloop AAs are long gone, this may interest some.
Says 80%, but more like 90% off original price. Signage in store said 60% off.
Plenty of stock (on D size only) at Morley Galleria, WA. (Not at Walter Rd)

C-size cheap too, but I got the last ones. Maybe elsewhere??
Not much else left worth buying. Lots of TVs at 20% off that nobody wants.
$10 hdmi cables - ho hum.

I find the dse branded batteries suck. Put them in one of my kids toys, had to change them a week later. Put Duracell ones in it after, 2 months later and they're still going strong

    There's a reason they're so cheap…imo

    • These are rechargeable. I have a bunch of their AA ones which seem to work fine. I haven't tested the LSD aspect of them though.

    • But this is a LSD NimH, not one of the shitty alkaline batteries that Dick sold. I'd never recommend those.

(And FYI, Duracell are a rip-off in Australia. Get Varta from Bunnings.)

Also be aware that 90% of battery chargers can only charge AAs and AAAs. I was tempted to buy some until it dawned on me that the extra cost of a charger makes them very expensive…

    • A very good point, thankyou. I'm now wondering if I still own a charger which will take them.
If not, its only a mechanical modification. My soldering iron does not get enough use these days :-)

    • I have both chargers, however I found my AA Eneloops in D-Cell adapters (or is it AAA Eneloops?) work good eonugh anyway. Much more powerful than the old rechargeable D-Cells I had lying around.

Adapters are cheap on eBay, many of us own Eneloops already - more versatile, D-Cells are becoming less and less coming as the years go on.

      Just a thought

This D has triple the capacity of an eneloop. No need to recharge or change batteries on those multi-night camping trips.

        • My adaptors take 2x AAs which are 2500mAh a piece, that's 5/6 of the capacity, with none of the inconvenience.

        • @Nukkels:

sounds good. Mine are only 1xAA. Got a link ?

        • Not triple the capacity of 2 Eneloop AA Pros (5000mAh)

The convenience is worth more to me than the extra 1000mAh this cell provides.

        • @Click_It: OK, this deal isn't for you then.

        • @Nukkels: That looks like the one I have. Mine didn't work in my 4D maglite as the nipple would sink in after the pressure from the batteries flexed the collar. I had to add solder blobs onto the nipple to get it to work, even then it was unreliable.

The stiff plastic used in the official Eneloop adaptor is much more reliable, but it only holds one cell.

          So YMMV.

      • Old nicads? One of these has more power and three times the energy of an eneloop.
And who can say no to 90% off?

My friend used a nail clipper and rubber band to charge his. He can only fit one battery in a 2-cell charger though. A 4-cell charger should be able to do 2.

      • Ozbargainers at their best!

The metal detector guys use these (in C size) and they are pretty fussy about battery quality.

Mirrabooka had a couple of D packs left, Ocean Keys had loads of C and D, no AA (I got them and they were on a different shelf to the normal batteries).

  • The 4 packs of D size are $10 and C size $8 which is slightly cheaper per battery than the 2 packs.

  • Plenty of C, D and 4xAA at Osbourne Park. (Note you want the white LSD packs.)
