  • are these ones benson approved?

    • AFAIK he hasn't tested these, but you can buy the braided one which is Benson approved.

      • i noticed those ones are usb 2.0 vs 3.0 will that make any difference to charging?

check out Benson's review, he explains the usb 2.0/3.0 issue http://www.amazon.com/review/R1AF6ZHBZRQFHV

          theres more to it
          but in layman terms:

type A (the standard plug), type b (the square printers), mini, micro and type C are just plug types

usb 1.0, 2.0 vs 3.0 and 3.1 are standards of the protocol that define what the connector and cable are capable of
1.0 to 3.0 are most just exponential speed increments

3.1 didnt get named 4.0 because it was basically 3.0 but with increased throughput and has versions which also has charging capability
all usb standards can charge, but 3.1 revision 2 (the official name) just has the ability to charge higher powered devices like a laptop vs just a phone

additionally they have integrated the display port capability into 3.1 as well

so now with 3.1+ you can use it to carry a video signal, power to charge laptops/devices and a data signal to transfer data at insane speeds

All higher versions are retrospectively compatible

and the confusion lies in the fact that you can pretty much have a mix and match between most plug types with the usb standard

          i.e. type A usb 2.0
          or Type C usb 2.0
          or Micro USB 3.0

it just happens that Type C is now common with 3.0 and 3.1
and to add confusion in the mix Display port is now using the Type C plug with 3.1 revision 2, since it carries the video signal

type C 2.0 just means you wont get 3.0 speeds or 3.1 charging or video capabilities

        • @furythree:
So basically they will all work in any standard micro usb port?

        • @Hirolol: no
again, the difference physically is the plug, so you gotta make sure the port is correct

but firmware wise, the protocols will work retrospectively and what you get in terms of true difference is what version of USB is

i.e. the higher the number, the better the specs and speed, with 3.1 rev 2 being the top and 3.1 rev 2 power being the top speed plus being able to charge

You can also get 3.1 rev 2 power with or without displayport as well

        • @furythree:
Why did they change the plug?

        • @Hirolol: smaller to allow for thinner devices like the new macbook

and most importantly its reversible and can carry more current and data

        • @furythree:
Couldnt they just use the same plug that way if I accidentally buy one i can use it in other usb devices that i already have

        • @Hirolol: no, the old plugs cant handle the power and data that the new one can.

its more than just aesthetics, theres chips inside the head of the plug

        • @furythree:
          ah ok.
i guess it cant really have the technology inside to revert back to lower power or speed. cables will end up costing too much right?

do you know if blitzwolf make any AU wall plug usb chargers? i dont want a 3+ port one. just looking for something small.
i tried to search but cant find much…

        • @Hirolol: nono

usb 3.0 devices will have a standard usb plug on the other end and if the port you plug it into (like an old laptop) only has usb 2.0 for example

Then the cable will still work. All cables work retrospectively and operate at the latest spec of the port. So the usb 3.0 cable will just operate like a 2.0 cable

The only factor you need to consider is whether the physical plug fits

On that note, ive only seen usb 3.1 rev 2 cables come in the Type C form factor on BOTH ends. So this may be the exception
But if you got an adapter (make sure you get Benson approved!), then it will work exactly like the above example

remember, usb version/protocol + physical plug type

    But there is no stock?

    • oh wow that's crazy! I bought 2 last night and there was 1000+ in stock
They still have plenty of the braided cables though, which are more expensive but they will last longer
