Wintel Pro CX-W8 TV Box Mini PC Intel Z8300 Windows 10 4K Wi-Fi 2G/32GB US $75 (AU $99) Everbuying

140

Received this deal by email. I've been looking for an affordable TV Box for some streaming on sites where my Chromecast is blocked.
$16 cheaper than this deal the other day: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/242131
I don't think the Windows 10 is activated and the image in the link doesn't state it is so consider that before buying. You might also need to request an AU plug. Sorry about the poor editing, I'm in a rush.

  • good find
    My only problem
    No XBMC/Kodi support a downside
    have upvoted anyway

    • No XBMC/Kodi support a downside

      That's a massive downside.

It's running Windows 10, why wouldn't Kodi work?

      • in the specs on the website
it says it does not support it
        surprised me as well

i have one of these 8300 tv boxes …… windows 10 updates ……. loaded kodi, netflix app, and VLC ………. move to windows after I couldn't get decent torrent client for my android box ……. have never looked back……..

the usb can be a bit slow so if you attached a 1TD drive the first time with content it can take a while read and build the library.

they run 32bit version of windows although CPU is 64 bit ….. hence 2GB ram …….I think that is how they stop people using these as desktop replacements and microsoft licensing cheap windows. ……. 64 bit windows for desktop $$$$ 32 bit for other stuff $.

        • Thanks for all your comments mate, much appreciated.

        • Any word on h265 10bit performance?

        • These don't have genuine Windows 10, I think you'll find that they come preinstalled with autokms or kmspico

    • Same here, would like more info on why Kodi doesn't work? Isn't this simply X86 Windows 10?

      • +1

It would work as long as windows can be installed. I'm running Kodi on a similar windows box which runs flawlessly.

    • I'd be surprised if Kodi didn't work. It should be standard Windows and the Z300 handles Kodi well in my tests of other boxes.

    • Confirmed Kodi can be installed.

  • Nice find, however anyone have any experience with the CPU, Intel Atom Cherry Trail x5-Z830? Does it work well windows and for media playback.

Also I believe the storage is non expandable yes?

Also I don't think it comes with a remote, doesn't state one in the contents of the box section.

    • 32GB right?

    • It has 1x USB 2 slot, 1xUSB 3 slot and 1x MicroSD slot but can't see how you can upgrade the onboard ROM
Highly doubt it includes a remote, not sold as having one. The Android TV boxes have them included but I don't think the mini windows PC's normally include one

      • don't attach drive to the usb3 …… when it reads data the other other port which you use for a keyboard has to wait for the usb 3 to finish …… so the usb3 port hogs the CPU when it reads ….. I have keyboard bluetooth dongle in the usb3 and the usb drive on usb 2 port ……

    • I have a similar box being a pipo x7, both have similar chips: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Atom-x5-x5-Z8300-vs-Intel-Atom…

Mine works very well. Storage is the same with mine. I've been using a usb drive for extra storage which works well but ive just ordered a 128gb microsd which should run better. I reccomend a K400r logitech as a remoe/keyboard

Any chance you could try 10bit hevc playback? Test files here - http://jell.yfish.us/

        • I'll get back to you later with it

        • What mbps do you want and what player do you want it tested on?

        • @sputnik: Try a few - see where it craps out? This media player is probably best - https://mpc-hc.org/

        • +1

          @alvins:

Only runs smoothly on 1080 264 3mbps, struggles with 10bit.

        • @sputnik: Thanks for testing it out.

    • the 8300 is fine for media playback, torrent client, browser , but not a substitute for an I3 as a desktop …… but for TV box it rocks, low power, and no fan.

  • Any one know a Mini pc or tv box that can play 3d iso also has the option to either put in a hard drive or attach one. I would like to have the operating system already installed. I would like local stock but checking online it seems to be limited options in australia.

    • none of these cheap boxes take a built in drive …… it's the chipset used to keep costs down and also not eat into desktop market …… chip set has no sata support.

you need an NUC (has sata support) and even an I3 ready to roll will set you back $400 min with OS, BUT they are grunty enough to use as a desktop.

  • Whats the story with unactivated Windows on these? It it usable indefinitely, or are people hacking them?

In theory, these can run Android or Linux, I believe, but how much trouble is it to install? Any support?
    Openelec would be nice.

    • If you just want Openelec you can get an Amlogic MXQ android box for about $40, remote included.

Hardware support for all the modern codecs (HEVC x265, etc), rock solid, super low power usage.

These windows boxes are total overkill just for that…

    • +1

Windows activation depends on the box. All those I've tested have been activated though usually those that ship with Windows Pro wont be activated I.e. You'll need to fork out for a Windows licence.

The number of those peddling unlicensed Windows has declined significantly but there still are a few boxes out there unfortunately.

      • windows is cheap on these boxes as whet are 2gb ram, 32 bit windows and don't eat into the desktop market ……… all the ones I've had come with activated windows, update fine, and you an do clean install and they are still activated. just can't upgrade to 64 bit windows.

windows pro ……. anyone of these with windows pro would be unlicensed ……..

windows on these and tablets smaller than 10" was microsoft making sure the world doesn't flood with android boxes incase they later enter the home entertainment market at this bottom end …. e.g. download pay to view movies, music, etc.

  • What in the blazes is 'internal storage broadband'? I take LAN is also 1 Gbps?

  • I think Windows 10 is free if you run the beta update version, and no license is neccessary.

  • Does anyone know what the x265 4k performance is like?

    • Also interested - if anyone has one of these boxes (or similiar with same CPU) - could you try 10bit hvec performance? Test files are here - http://jell.yfish.us/

  • I've just received a Wintel Pro W8 from Geek Buying.
It came with Win 10 Home pre-activated with HackTool:Win32/AutoKMS, which was detected by Windows Defender.

    • Just allow autokms to your whitelist. At least you don't have to buy a key and stuff around.

      • Yes, I could do so. But I don't know how long that kms server will exist or if the key will get blocked.
And I'm also don't know what else might have been installed.
I will be doing a clean install with a spare genuine key.

Otherwise its quite a nice device for the $

        • Yeah I'd reinstall and redo activation.

  • i have something similar with the older Z3735f CPU

The 2GB of RAM is prob the most limiting aspect. Doesn't take much to bog the system down since windows uses over 1GB

Had kodi on it, but for some reason it would stop recognising files on my NAS saying they couldn't be found.

moved to plex running the server and media centre on it. works pretty well, though a bit slow to update the data base.

from what i can see there's really little peerformance difference between the the Z3735f and the Z8300, so you might be able to pick up something with the older cpu cheaper.

they certainly make a good kids PC / video player. handles web browsing well enough. buy a cheap 64GB micro SD for extra storage, or store stuff on a network drive.

  • Have just ordered one. There's a good review here:

I can almost guarantee the writer of that article has never even touched the box. It's just a summary of the marketing material.

      • Yeah, so generic.

  • I ended up getting "geekbuying" to price match as they are also offering free "TNT 3-5 day" delivery.

  • Quick review: Had my Wintel for a while now. Windows 10 came activated via AutoKMS. First thing I did was a backup followed by a Windows refresh to restore factory settings and then reactivated. I primarily bought it to watch the NRL on Livestream in HD. I am doing this through the Livestream add-on on Kodi which is more stable than the LS website IMO. Kodi 16.1 runs fine, although I followed a YouTube guide to increase the buffer (16.1 issue). Streaming works fine for my purposes as does basic browsing. The wifi was pathetic, so I have a wifi range extender next to and it is powering along at great speed.
