Long time no post. Seems like a bargain modem router.

Maybe there are decent AC routers hovering around this price?

I know the last post for this product was a promo/clearance, but that's is a big difference in price.

Please correct me if the products are different.
I bought this router to replace my 1 month old $39 D-Link router and the difference in speed and reliability is day and night (linksys better).

    • What's dated about it?

There's a difference between boating the latest features and being redundant - not everyone wants nor needs the superfast/long range ac standards - not all clients support ac standard (ie tablets, laptops, mobile phones, iPods).
I bought a router recently and identified what I didn't need in a router first - I have a modest-sized two-bedroom apartment, I don't stream much, get my Internet over the phone line, and only on device in the house supports ac and 5Ghz bandwidth- so what was the point in spending extra on technology I don't need?

I reckon this is a decent price for a dual-band modem router with USB port.
Big1's price was a true bargain - I'd have bought that if I'd seen it (subject to delivery costs).

Should be noted that Linksys aren't Cisco anymore though (older tech can actually be better in some cases!)

        • Just had to check: according to System Information it's an i7.
But it has the same Windows Experience Index rating as the desktop in the study that's a 10-year old AMDx2 running XP / Ubuntu!

But yeah, I'm on ADSL2 so I don't need a 1750ac router and can save myself a hundred $s or so.

        • @Cheap Charlie: haha that was the sound of loading computer games from a cassette deck!

      • For less than twice that price you can get AC whether you need it or not. As a rule the newer tech tends to have faster processors and handle more connections simultaneously. And often features that you only know you need when you encounter that need are present in the newer tech.
