Also doubles as a N64 from the look of it.

    • +2

This is the only reason I clicked on the deal…

    • +1

      exactly what I was thinking…

    • +2

But does it come with Goldeneye?

    • +2

If the modem doesnt work, just blow on it

      • -2

if you know what i mean! wink wink nudge nudge!

  • I'm currently using a 7-year-old Speedstream 4200 ADSL modem (supplied by Optus when I first hooked up with them). It's attached to a Netgear wireless router for wifi pruposes.

The Speedstream is, not surpirsingly, becoming a bit unstable lately. Would anyone recommend this Linksys X3500 as a relatively cheap upgrade? I'm not really a tinkerer, more a 'set & forhet' type of guy when it comes to networking…

    Thanks!

    • +2

Yeah its really rock solid and easy to setup. Would recommend a lot, used to have Billions and used tinker a lot, now not so much and have this and it is still the best Router/Modem I've bought.

  • +2

I have been using x3500 for 2 years and it's one of the best modem routers I've used. very stable and no need to restart for months.

    • I've had mine about the same, since Nov 13 and its not missed a beat, I think it's had one restart in that time. Easy to setup and use. I've told many friends to get one. I'll be getting another one of these is this deal. I think I payed about $170 a few years ago even though you dont get AG wireless at $55 its a steal.

  • shipping to Sydney is $16.00….ouch!

    • apply deep heat…:)

    • If it was no more than $8.00 to sydney might have pulled the trigger.

I don;t believe it actually costs that much, they might be making a bit of cream on top, otherwise get yourself a cheaper courier.

$16.00 for a modem size box is a bit expensive in my opinion.

  • N vs AC?

    • +2

Dual band N is going to perform basically the same as low end AC.

  • Try shipping to Perth which is $25.00 ; )

Had to buy this due to it being so cheap for this type of modem plus it has that low level design, which suits my desk shelf nicely.

    • +8

      $29.83 to 4881 :( It's literally cheaper to send it to Antarctica, $28.23 - 7151.

      • Might have trouble finding a phone socket there from what I've heard…

  • Anyone have experience with this modem/router?

    • +1

Had it for over 2 years and it's rock solid. Would recommend highly, used to buy Billion but this one has been better than all those.

  • Thanks bought one. Shipping to Perth worked out at slightly under $20 for me.

  • ADSL 2+ - does that mean if I am currently on cable, it won't have the capability of running faster than ADSL 2+ speed?

Correct me if I am wrong but, cable is generally quicker than ADSL 2+ right?

How would these compare to the modem/router provided by Optus?

    • +2

No, it means it has an ADSL2+ modem built in. Many/Most ADSL2+ modem/routers only support ADSL, so if you were on cable it would be useless to you. However, according to this site this device has an Ethernet WAN port, so it can act as a router to your cable modem. This is also dependent on your cable modem's ability to be put into bridge mode (even if it can't, you can use this router with it but its configuration would be less than ideal, e.g. double NAT).

Yes, cable is generally faster than ADSL2+, especially if you have Optus Speed Pack to get up to 100mbps. However, of late, Optus cable performance in many areas has been subpar due to congestion, so if in an affected area its service could be comparable to ADSL2+.

      • Thanks! In other word, we could say that this will perform similarly to an Optus modem/router stock with an addition of a better wireless performance given that my cable modem can act as a bridge mode?

Just noticed platform comparability, I am currently using Windows 10 but that shouldn't be a problem?

        • +1

          No it shouldn't

    • Nah just plug in the cable to the WAN port and away you go, fast as you want!!

      • Thanks mate

        • +1

I'm using this plugged into an Optus cable router as well and it bridges fine.

  • Is it NBN compatible?

    • NBN FTTN compatible? because bascially they decided that 3 more streets of FTTP was too costly. and i live 3 streets away from FTTP

      • Nope. FTTN = VDSL modem.

        • Thanks! Any good vdsl modems?

        • @Micoa:
NBN should provide you with an Ethernet connection ie they will supply the VDSL modem.

    • It has a WAN port I feel like you plug in your NBN connection to that. I am not sure with NBN though, I hope so as I have one of these and am getting NBN in a couple of weeks time.

  • If I'm planning on bridging it, would this be better or the TPLINK TD-8817?

    • That really comes down to the chipset then. TD-8817 should be a TrendChip, this one I'm not sure. Some chipsets are better in different line situations (e.g. TrendChip is good for short line lengths)

  • Did anyone get an order confirmation email? I don't seem to have received one to my gmail address. And yes, the email is correct on the Thank You page after ordering.

    • got filtered to the spam folder in my gmail account.

      • Ah yes, thanks.

I was checking in the "Promotions" folder, forgetting that it was not actually the spam folder.

Too late it's sold out. I wanted one :(

    • -1

I can possibly feel sorry for you…

  • Aaaargh!! Just got home from work & jumped on the laptop to purchase, & all sold out…!! Oh well, well done to those who got a great deal… :-)

    • -1

but not very sorry for you, ou should have bought it when you had the chance!

  • +1

If you use this with TPG you may (or not) have connection problems. If you do, then Set it to "Connect on Demand" rather than the default setting of "Always connected". This resolves the issue. You can set the connect on demand to 9999 so it more or less stays connected. Hope this helps anyone that has an issue. Other than that great modem/routers.
    Cheers

    • +1

Ahhh that would have helped my a few months ago, now moved to Yarraville and have NBN.

  • Oh poop my modem broke down last week after 8 years of loyal service, too bad it didn't hold out till now. Is there an appreciable difference between ADSL2+ modems apart from the wireless bands?

  • Hi ozbargainer, just wondering if anyone has received their modem router yet?

I've inquired my order as it's been two days and haven't heard back anything, they replied that my order will be processed sometimes next week.

Isn't it a bit too late since the purchase transaction happened on Tuesday when this deal was posted?

    • Still waiting here as well. My order status is 'BUILT', and there's no invoice number or connote number.

    • I received mine today (Perth). Unfortunately not suitable for what I wanted so will be selling on it Gumtree.

    • I received mine last week, very quick shipping to Sydney (eParcel Express). I paid with Direct Deposit.

    • I've received mine yesterday. Last week they told me that it was run out of stock and they need to resupplied from Sydney warehouse. My order was Melbourne CBD Pickup.
