This is a pretty good media box. Been using it for half a year now.. no issues whatsoever. Plus this deal includes the wireless keyboard/mouse. That makes the deal even better.

    • Whats so good about MINIX?
would it beat apple tv? - thats what i currently have.

      • would it beat apple tv?

Yes, 4x better at half the price.

All MINIX players are excellent, but why buy an old model when I can buy the new one for less.

    • The SoC in the X8-H is much more powerful that the S905 found in the U1 so if you're a gamer, you may want the extra grunt.

      • A9r4 processor in X8-H vs A53 in NEO seems the NEO is better. Or do you mean the GPU only?

Was interested in your prices, when I click on the link I get AUD $174-43. Then when I add the A2 Lite Airmouse I get $201-17. I have done it a few times now and get a different 'price' each time but still nothing like $163 delivered.

      • AU is inaccurate there. Better off to use US with a CC ;)

I can't believe how little this product has dropped in price. I purchased this from DX 08/2014 for $180 With an M1 air mouse.
I can't understand how it's only dropped $15 in 20 months. Best ageing tech ever.

maybe has something to do with the newer model minix released not being more powerful ??

Upon review, you're half correct, mate. I got the 'MINIX NEO X8-H' not the 'MINIX NEO X8-H Plus'.
Only differences I'm aware of is the chipset (with the 'Plus' supporting wireless AC).
I believe everything else is exactly the same though, RAM, CPU etc.

You can blame MINIX for that. They have a set price range on each product and won't let the resellers go out of that range without permission.

      • Yep, they've got the same pricing policies as Apple.

This product uses an S812 chip. The text says it supports H265/HEVC codec .. but that's deceitful. It only supports H265 in 8-bit. Most H265 videos you get now will be 10-bit, and not compatible with this device.

Not a bargain - you'll need to replace it soon anyway! The newer minix listed above are better price & full capability. Or just go with a generic Android TV box with the right hardware. Available on ebay for ~AU$50 (but without a nice air mouse).

  • This is not an Android tv box. It's just ask Android box that you can plug to the tv. Android tv is an operating system
