Not a very good bargain if you consider the high postage costs… Which anyone outside of sydney has too.

  • +2

Agreed, once the vry expensive postage and handling costs are added on, its not a bargain at all

  • AusPC has them for $88 inclusive of delivery.

    • Picture doesnt show a scorpio so Id say its not that same drive. Its a bargain if it is however but the picture doesnt seem to indicate it.

      • care to elaborate?
i am under the impression that WD pretty much only makes scorpio drives: green, blue and black. With the exception of their upcoming re-release of the velociraptor drive

i.e. a WD5000BEVT is a 500gb scorpio blue, irrespective of what the picture of the drive looks like.

      • They use that same picture for every 2.5" sata hdd… Its just a generic picture.

  • Oops. My mistake. It's a different drive. The one advertised here is a WD5000BPVT and the link I posted was a WD5000BEVT.
Both 500Gb and both WDs, but different drives and diff prices.
AusPC is selling the one here for $135 so the mwave price is a v good deal based on those numbers.

    • afaik, WD5000BPVT IS exactly the same as WD5000BEVT

  • Are these standard SATA hard drives for notebooks?

There is a difference between the EVT and PVT models.

    From the WD website:

Advanced Format Technology - Technology being adopted by WD and other drive manufacturers to increase media format efficiencies, thus enabling larger drive capacities. (PVT models only)

I don't know how much of a difference it's gonna make though, guess I'll find out.

Reason I went for the one from Mwave. - 95$ for the PVT version whereas 88$ @ AusPC for the EVT and 135$ for the PVT.

    Cheers for posting this.

    • If you plan to use the drive on XP, it is actually better to get the one without Advanced Format Technology. With advanced format technology, if you want more than 1 partition in XP, you need to run WD Align, otherwise you cannot get the maximum performance out of the drive.

Single partition under XP, you could use the jumper that enables XP backward compatibility.

If you do not use XP anymore, then PVT is fine… but if you still do, then EVT might be a safer / less troublesome choice.

  • I'm going to use this in my PS3! I had $5 mwave cash, so $80 for me.
