BigW can't let u buy Gift card by eGift card, and won't allow u to shop then refund

underwood BigW in brisbane logan blocked me to shop in their store cus i intend to refund later.

Area manager and store manager both refuse to let me shopping in BigW and called security to stop me paying for the goods.

in Bigw return policy "BIG W offers returns for Big W Products within 30 days of receipt of shipment"

but they said we have right to stop u shopping in Bigw without any reason.

I called to ur call line 1300 today from 11:39am for 21 mins..

operator said i can buy it then refund within their policy…

but the store manager said 3 times "no no no" to them…

they can't do anything about it…

now

what's "Your rights under Australian consumer law" and "bigW rule"?

why i can't step in Bigw?

why i can't refund?

im not from Australia so not sure the law here

they told me cus too many scammer with previous deal "10% off"

they blocked any form shopping from eGift card

with u use eGift card….u can't refund…..

      what if "change of mind"

      does it cover?

      • +6

        For change of mind, no store is legally obligated to refund you. Some may, for particular items, but only out of good will and not because you deserve it or is entitled to it.

        • BIG W offers returns for Big W Products within 30 days of receipt of shipment, and provided the item is:

          is in saleable condition
          is unworn or unused with all original packaging and tags attached
          it is not faulty or subject to manufacturer’s warranties
          is not a personalised product

        • +13

          @lihong10:

          There's a difference between law and Policy. Your question above was in relation to law (ACCC). By law, no they don't have to refund change of mind. BigWs change of mind policy is at their discretion and they obviously saw through your ill intentions.

        • -4

          they only can credit back to Gift card in this case…..with same value….

          if u spend 1000 u get 1000 back in Gift card

          then u still need to spend the money in woolworths group…u can't get cash or back to credit card

          what do u mean by ill intentions???

          Refund is called ill intention?

        • +2

          @lihong10: It has already been mentioned on ozbargain that you cannot change e-giftcards to physical giftcards.

          If like you said,

          they only can credit back to Gift card in this case…..with same value…. if u spend 1000 u get 1000 back in Gift card

          Then why didn't you just use the e-giftcards at woolworths???

          Oh right! You can't do that!

          In that case, it's not really $1000 for $1000 is it?

          What you are trying to do is exchange $1000 worth of BigW CREDIT for $1000 worth of Wollies CREDIT. These are 2 completely different things. Its not really a one-for-one exchange is it?

          NOTE ALSO THAT IT IS "CREDIT", and "credit" has absolutely ZERO CASH VALUE. You are nothing more than an unsecured creditor.

  • +2

    It is not clear why you want to purchase Gift card using egift card and why you want refund.

    Most of the retailers won't let you buy giftcard using egift card. People have been successful with Big W in the past only because the staff was unaware of this policy.

    • +10

      It sounds like a get rich quick scheme that is doomed to fail.

      • +18

        Yeah… You can't do that.

        • -5

          Why i can't refund? see refund in bigw

          BIG W offers returns for Big W Products within 30 days of receipt of shipment, and provided the item is:

          is unworn or unused with all original packaging and tags attached
          it is not faulty or subject to manufacturer’s warranties

          If you have changed your mind, as long as:

          You have clear proof of purchase, typically a receipt;

          The product and packaging is in its original condition including manuals and accessories;

          The item is in re-saleable condition for example original tags and labels are still attached, unworn, unopened or unused and

          The product is not on the Product Exclusion List (please see below);

          BIG W will provide you with a refund in the form of the previous method of payment, or a BIG W Returns Card – at your option.

          @lihong10:

          If you bought the gift cards at 7.5% discount through the recent Cashrewards offer then you're subject to their special terms stated in bold red text at the bottom of their deal page:

          The BIG W Store eGift Card is redeemable at BIG W stores and BIG W Online only and cannot be used to purchase any other Gift Cards issued by Woolworths Limited. No refunds for change of mind. By using this BIG W Store eGift Card you agree to the full Store eGift Card Terms and Conditions.

          @lihong10: Isn't that fraudulent behaviour?

          In any case, if refunded, it would be credited back to the egift card!

        • +7

          @lihong10:

          sorry but you failed in your attempt to defraud BigW….. so sad, move along now.

        • -2

          in Bigw policy

          refund only by cash / credit card / gift card

          ………

          and in this case…

          only gift card can credited back……

          store can't issue egift card

        • -1

          @fefris:

          the problem is they don't honor their own policy in this case

          i done in other BigW…

          but not in this one….

        • +2

          @lihong10: But the real issue is that you are attempting to take advantage of their policy.

        • +2

          @lihong10:

          How many times have you tried to take advantage of this?

          You can't just try to convert the eGift Cards to normal Gift Cards like this, and the stores are becoming aware of it

          Why don't you just buy the Wish eGift Cards at 5% discount? Why all the hassle for the sake of 2.5% (or $25 per transaction?)

        • @lihong10:

          Good to see you were finally caught then. Im hoping you get a national ban. Emailing BigW now to point them to this thread, shouldnt be too hard to ID you from the store manager you mentioned :)

      • I would rather mow lawn or clean houses over the weekend to earn $75 than what you did at BigW. Shame on you.

  • +2

    Yeah, you can't buy a Gift Card with an eGift Card, this has been covered in recent deals. It sounds like you tried that, failed, so then possibly asked them about their refund policy, they worked out what your plan was and ended it then and there. Hard to tell from 1 side of the events.
    Even if they did refund you, they would refund you in the same form that you paid - which is by gift card!

    What were you planning on using your eGift Card towards?!

      • +8

        Can't do that…

        • +13

          Why i can't refund?

          Because they've worked out that you're trying to convert $7.50 that you paid into $10 cash, or multiples thereof, at their expense. It's their right to refuse to allow you to do so.

        • +6

          @Geewhizz: It's really $9.25 into $10. All this fuss over $75, while OP is trying to game the system. :/

        • -3

          its only once……

          cus u can't buy Gift card with Gift card..

          and its same value……

          100 to 100

          no matter how many times u doing again and again

        • +5

          @lihong10:

          But it's in the conditions of your eGift Card that you can't buy a Gift Card with it. You bought a Big W eGift Card to shop @ Big W, no where else!

      Yes….then i took goods back to bigW to refund

      they refuse..to refund

      • +2

        now i get it. i thought your scam was to buy the egift cards > trade them for wish gift card > return for cash refund > profit ~$75.

        btw what goods did you buy?

          TV

          its easy to make up to 1000

        • +4

          Hahaha "your scam" lol.

          But yes I agreed. OP has not made this clear at all (might be due to language limitations though)

        • -1

          I'm pretty sure they will only refund to gift card, so the OP would get a physical gift card that can be used at woolworths. (In some circumstances they will only allow exchange through a paper store credit which requires the manager to come out)

          Furthermore, the OP is not really making $75 at all, they are just earning $25 which is basically nothing compared to a real job and they would still have to spend $1000 at the Woolworths Group chain. I think a lot of people here are exaggerating the loss to the Woolworths Group.

      • You bought them online?

        I can't see anything on the Big W return page to allow online purchases to be refunded in store. You need to send them back & pay for shipping.

        "Returning unwanted items or change of mind the return shipping will be at your cost."

        https://www.bigw.com.au/returns

  • +6

    Dear lihong, was this your 'cunning plan':

    1. By $1000 worth of BigW giftcards for $925 with the 7.5% discount.

    2. By an item for $1000 at BigW, and of course scan your 'Everyday rewards card'.

    3. Return the item for $1000 cash, thus making $75 and some EDR-card points.

    4. Repeat, infinitum.

    Surely, you can see why BigW (et al.) have systems in place to preclude this type of scheme/scam? And surely you don't begrudge them for it? Or do you actually think they should give you unlimited free money and EDR-card points?

    • -6

      they won't give u cash for refund……only gift card

      in ur way…

      1.By $1000 worth of BigW giftcards for $925 with the 7.5% discount.—-checked

      2.By an item for $1000 at BigW, and of course scan your 'Everyday rewards card'.—- no more everyday rewards card in Bigw

      3.Return the item for $1000 gift card

      then u can go 1..get same value and 3 ..get same value of gift card

      …………

      i just want transfer eGift card to Gift card

      so i can use in woolworth group….

      • +3

        I serious doubt you thought this through.
        I don't advocate doing this but…
        try returning items in smaller quantities, over a period of time (if possible).
        Do note that you will not get WISH gift card.
        You will probably get a RETURNS card which is only valid for 6 months.

        And the most important lesson is… don't ever buy e-gift cards and expect them to be changed to WISH gift cards.

        • +17

          @lihong10:

          Not their policy. Please stop trying to rort systems. Not exactly the best impression for someone who is new to the country.

          You buy a Big W Gift Card to shop at Big W, not to try to turn that into cash!

        • +9

          @Spackbace: While he says he's not from this country, looking at his account creation date, I would say he's been in Aus for at least a few years.

        • -2

          @Spackbace:

          turn that into cash???

          ur English should good enough to understand their policy?

          refund money only be same method u paying for it

          in my case

          eGift card …Gift card

          its not cash…..

          i still need to spend that 1000 in woolworths group…

        • +3

          @lihong10:

          Yes but you're doing it on purpose. You know you can't get 7.5% discount at WW, so you're attempting to screw the system. You said it yourself, you've done it a few times.

          Why not just 'settle' with the 5% discount on WW eGift Cards?

        • +1

          @lihong10: No no no… Not the same thing.

          You said:

          refund money only be same method u paying for it

          But what you trying to do is not like that. What you want is exchange BigW card to Wish card. Which you cannot do. BigW card is not the same as Wish gift card.

      • +3

        run out of negs, you fraud has failed, stop making me repeat myself.

        • -1

          how could it be fraud?

          i spend 1000 eGift card in BigW

          and return with 1000 Gift card

          then i can spend it in woolworths group…

          1000 to 1000 is called fraud?

        • +6

          @lihong10:

          Why don't you just pre-buy WW eGift Cards at 5% discount?! Is the extra 2.5% worth the hassle and system rorting?!

        • @lihong10: 1000 lemons are not necessarily equal to 1000 limes, although they have similar shapes. $1000 Bigw egift card is always equal to $1000 Bigw egift card but not others. $1000 wooolies gift card is another thing. If you thought you could return your Bigw goods to woolies, then you should have fought for your "right" to get a woolies gift card at Bigw.

        • @lihong10:

          You didnt pay 1000 for the card in the first place so its not even

      Just curious. Is is possible to be banned from entering all Big W & Wollies stores?

      I don't see why not. They're private property that are open to the public. They can refuse entry for any reasons other than discrimination.

        • +4

          Well, take your attempting to obtain a financial advantage case to International Court of Justice, The Hague then.

          If you are gonna accuse them of discriminating against Asian then what you are saying is they discriminate against all Asians who shop there, not just you. And I don't think this is the case as I also shop from Big W with no problem.

          by the way..im Asian…….so its discrimination?
