JVC 40" Full HD TV $244.30 @ Dick Smith

180

Saw this down at Dick Smith Warringah Mall, seems like an absolute steal at this price. Don't particularly need a new telly at the moment however.

They had 3 units when I was down there earlier, not sure if nation wide or only applicable to my store. The model on the box was LT-40N551A

The maths doesn't stack up on the sign. Perhaps its a price error?

There were a few products at the store where the maths didn't quite seem right, I got a disproportionally discounted charger while I was there for the price on the sign however

      • My comment below was meant as a reply to this, please excuse my newbness

    • Pretty sure at the rate of Dick Smith, pricing errors are the least of the problems haha

  • I bought the 550A model for $150 during the pre Xmas fire sale. Not likely to be an error just cheap quality and price I guess.

    • I got ripped, I paid $175 for that model :)

      • I think you're ripped right now,so you got it cheaper and you feel you got a worse deal?? Like DSE's math your comment doesn't make sense!

        • Maybe I should have bolded the smiley face.

  • It's because they are increasing the discounts as the close date for the particular store gets closer.

Picked up some Go pro gear which was discounted further than the sign stated and the clerk explained the above.

Furthermore, as some stores will be closing layer than others (ie; Melbourne emporium) their discounts on some items haven't been as much as at other stores.

JVC is just rebadged Chinese generic

    • at least its got warranty though, unlike the DSE stuff. Having said this if the 40"+ DSE TVs fall under $200 I'm game

I doubt anyone ever paid $599 to start with. This deceitful behaviour is part of the problem with why they went under.

My local ds only has phone cases and cables left.

    • Yeah, and it closed last week. No real specials at all.

      • They had soundbar, selling for 237, kogan's everyday price is 199.

  • Even if rebadged jvc it's is it a good price? One store I was in last week had changing and even a 55 Panasonic still

  • We have a 55" JVC for a year. It does a fine job. The only downside is the sound. After hooked it up to a soundbar we are happy.

  • This a terrible idea to use as a gaming monitor?

    • I've used a 40" TV as a monitor in the past, if you're planning on sitting it on your desk and being within 3 feet of it, you'll get some severe eye strain and for me, headaches. And this was on a (probably) better featured Samsung TV. I also found that my reflex in-game was poor, things like on WoW where I'd have to be able to see what was going on with my UI around the screen required me to physically turn my head to keep track of things - which is a novelty at first but gets annoying later on. For me, at about 2-3ft from the monitor, I find a 24" is the sweet spot for gaming - maybe as much as 30". When I switched from the 40" TV back to my 24" monitor, I noticed a considerable and instant relief on my eyes.

    • Yes. It's a TV. Get a proper monitor. If you want a 40" monitor get this: https://www.pccasegear.com/products/30196/philips-bdm4065uc-…

  • Maybe if they had better math, they wouldn't have had to close down :P

    30% off $599 isn't $244

  • My nearest store has closed…

  • Just visited my Dick Smith and they want $404 for this exact model and will not budge on price even after showing her this photo #madness
