$2 wine by the six pack. Doesn't get much cheaper. Great for cooking, homeless or new drinkers.
Read the reviews first! Be warned!

Chardonnay gets generally positive reviews, given the price point:

Great, time for some under age cooking in my alleyway cardboard box.

And they'd ship that for free if they have free shipping, but not a $90 carton of beer…

    • I guess there is a vastly different profit margin between wine and beer…

      • And maybe a different shipping network for beer?

        • +1

          why ?

what's the difference between shipping a dozen bottles of wine or a slab or beer ?

        • @jv:

No idea, but that would explain why they charge differently.

        • Demographic

      • As someone that works in liquor, you're absolutely right. The majority of profit is made in wine. Spirits and beer have very little margin especially by the case.

    • Click and collect mate.

      • +1

I wish. My most drunk beer isn't available click and collect. Southwark stout. Fortunately I can get my second most consumed beer, Zywiec Porter click and collect, but they are always mangled made up cases from sixes.

Out of sheer morbid curiosity, I ventured to by this box of 6 reds for $12.
This is definitely the worst wine I have ever tasted in my whole life.
If I had some dirty paint brushes I would use the other 5 bottles for some noble purpose, but out of respect for the hog that gave up its life for bristles on the brush, I rather think I'll send the stuff to the landfill site.

    • Most of DM's cheap cleanskin reds are the same

    • Get a decanter

    • You forgot Sangria! Cheap wine is the primary qualification using the traditional recipie soaking for 24 hours.

There should be a special word for products whose biggest selling point is also their biggest drawback.

Pro: It's wine that's cheaper than a 6-pack of beer!
Con: Yeah, but it's also wine that's cheaper than a 6-pack of beer…

      "Agathokakological bargain" ?

      • +2

Definition of Agathokakological: composed of both good and evil

        • Holy Crap*, that's an awesome word. I'm gonna need a bit of a run-up when I use it, but it's a brilliant bit of linguistics.

          *Also Agathokakological I suppose…

Bought this a while back for cooking. After a couple of years I actually tried one and it didn't taste terrible. Could be my alcoholism though.

    • +1

interesting … "it didn't taste terrible" that's what a peg down from it tasted ok? LOL

I have genuinely always wondered how someone can grow the grapes, turn into wine, buy bottles, bottle/ship/distribute, then have the distributor/retailer sell for $2 (after WET taxes and GST) and they make a profit…

    • Great for … under age drinkers.

The expensive tastes have to start somewhere..
Can view it as a long term investment strategy.

    • I think it's just the leftover "bits" at the bottom of the barrel which they salvage and then flog off for nothing.

    • The bottle and label alone is about $2.
So this is being sold at way below cost.

      • I read somewhere 60% of aus wine is now owned by Coles ww or aldi awhile back.

They would buy bottles Nd labels in such qauntity as to get them alot cheaper… That said its likely a loss leader.

    • Maybe Scott Morrison can get some ideas from .

  • Thanks bought

  • No good can come from this.

      disagree. there's 7.4 standard drinks for $2!!!

      • student by any chance? :P

        • He is just a battler

        • Obviously not. Students know that you cant play Goon of Fortune with bottles

In the description, the use of "homeless" is quite rude.

Is free shipping available if i buy just one case?

Ordered 2 boxes of the chardonnay , yes I think it's fine . The red I've tried before and it's not great . Anyway guy rings and says someone bought all their stock just as they were processing my order . I bought a few eneloops from Masters and got the we are totally out of stock tough luck call this morning so I thought here we go again . The guy asks me how soon do I need them because he can swing round to another store and get me some if I need it straight away . I nearly fell over … No rush so he'll just order them in and they will be there by Saturday . Thats great service . I'm sure they're not all that good but I was wowed none the less .

  • Hmm $2 wine? I threw out $5 wine once, can't imagine what $2 wine would taste like.

    • Add sugar you have a $1M wine taste-wise! -> 14% alcohol.

  • +1

    +1 for "homeless" hahahaha

  • I got sucked in by the cheapness….
$2 is good enough for the free loaders

      You people are SO STUPID!!!

  • Who used cash rewards like I did?

Finally, I just peal of the label and bring it to the next dinner party, "A local small batch blended wine we picked up a few hours outside of the city, been saving it for an ocassion". Works every time…

    • Guest - Hey Nickyyboyy, how much did you pay for this wine?
NickyyBoyy - ashamed to say but $42 a bottle.
      Guest - you've done very well <<slow approving nod>>

  • Hmm…might save my more expensive labels and transfer before using similar approach
Gives me a fair scope of they only have to be from my cellar of 2.01 to 2.99 range though.

  • I love the expert wine review - "Close to one of the most deliciously rich Chardonnays ever offered at this price. Loads of fig, stone fruits, creamy richness and toast yet with amazing freshness and vibrancy. With a level of richness that is rare at this price, there is a swathe of creamy and toast notes much sought after by Chardonnay lovers. A ripping buy. "

  • Cheap wine is pretty good for deglazing a pan and general cooking. Using anything good is a total waste as the alcohol burns off quickly and if your dish wastes of wine then you've added far too much anyway.

    • Not true always, australias favorite home cooked meal spag bol you should taste the wine flavor. That said Italians cook it for hours and hours till the grainyness of the mince is gone yet we just brown Nd dolmio sauce it in aus rofl.

  • Does anyone have a 'Taste & Price' recommendation, Please, for a reasonably priced Shiraz or Cab/Shiraz?
I am not an expert, but I have tasted some really bad wines that have a hint of metho, and I would rather pay a little more and enjoy it.
I would probably prefer an $18 - $25 bottle, at a true sale/discount down to say $9-$12. Happy to buy 6 or 12.
