not linking to the actual product?

  • I know it said up there "gaming monitor", but with 5ms response, will it do the job well enough?

    • +3

Depending on what you're gaming it should be Good To Go

    • Nothing 'gaming' about it. Don't let them fool you.

Anyway, unless you're playing competitively, 5ms is absolutely fine

    • +3

i have one and the response time isn't an issue. the height is the problem lol. it's way too short vertically for me to enjoy gaming on it

      • what game you normally playing? I wonder how does it look on this screen with games like Fifa, League of Legends of Dota 2.

        • +6

just tried fifa 16, with resolution set to 2560x1080 but the game is still running at 1920x1080 with massive black bars on either side http://i.imgur.com/3UiFYNh.jpg

Not sure if you could get it to work by tinkering with the game files, but honestly it's not worth it.

I've played rocket league/CSGO on this monitor and the height is a big problem in both games, but the extra width is great.

I use this monitor as my secondary one for having spotify take up half the screen and Steam take up the other half… or when I am studying I have 2-3 documents open at the same time(this is the only benefit of having an ultra-wide screen in my opinion).

My main monitor is a dell 24" 1920x1200 which I find perfect for gaming.

If you are buying this as your main/gaming monitor, I wouldn't recommend it.

        • @hoftos:
Agreed, i have a 29" ultrawide, and it seems to be about the same height as a 24" normal screen. Previously had a 27", it was massive in comparison (the screen that is).

          34" ultrwides look awesome

        • @hoftos: as you mentioned abot studying, I was actually thinking about getting this so I can read and write as the same time without moving between running application. Now I have to look at the page on Chrome then go back Word to type. Sound simple but keep repeating it is quite a pain.

        • @johnnyle:
what are you using right now? try snapping chrome to one side and word to the other. is it annoying with ur current setup? this monitor is probably worth getting then

    • +1

Usually it's never the response time they list anyhow, the only proper way is to measure it yourself or there's this website with a database of monitors and the specs. i don't remember the site but i remember Linus from LTT mentioning it.

  • Save nearly 10%, good deal.

  • +1

damn been eyeing this one. normal is $220 so not so much drop.
people complaining the height of actually screen is small, ie it says 25" but the height is kind of same with 21-22" monitors

    • +2

No Vesa as well which shits me. Get used to putting in on some Yellowpages phone books.

5ms is ok for gaming as is 60hz but you werent expecting much better for the money.

    • +5

Actually, height is the same as a 20in monitor.

      http://www.displaywars.com/20-inch-16x9-vs-25-inch-21x9

      • Hmm, I wanted to get this for use along with HP 25xi but apparently according to this site they're almost the same width?

    • Height is one of the first thing I noticed when I bought mine (29" version), but you get used to it. The bottom of the monitor is about 10cm off the table for those who are wondering.
Note: My model is LG 29UM67

    • I had 29inch ultra wide before and I had to return it after a few days.
1, very narrow, like to the unacceptable extend
2, when it is narrow and the height has the same pixel density as 1080p, you know the font size is gonna be damn small, it is like 20 inch with 1080p,
3, the idea of ultrawide for non gaming application is 2 monitors in 1, coz you can split the screen for surfing etc, but image two 20 inch monitor sitting in a straigh line with no curve in front of you… seeing the edge was real pain for me, and moreover, because of the angle (depending on your panel), the picture looks fake, just like if you look at your lcd monitor from the side.

      • I want to use this as point 3, what is seeing the edge was real pain? Which edge?

        • +1

two sides, left and right, ever on the front seat in cinema? :) that's like what I was talking about

        • The image viewability will be fine, this is IPS so viewing angle is very wide.

However, the distance to the sides is considerably longer than to the centre. That means your eyes have to continually refocus as you look around the screen.

I see what others have said about he height - this screen is TINY tall. About 250mm high and 585 wide, which is the same width as a 27" 16:10 but like a laptop screen in height!

  • +1

Good monitor, i use this for my second. Latency is about 23-28ms, not the best for gaming. prefer 144hz.

  • quite good monitor for movie, color is fine, not perfect

  • I have the 29um55-P monitor and it is brilliant! Not as great as some of the high grade Dell panels i have used but its excellent for multitasking.

If there was more 21:9 youtube content (similar ratio to cinema movie production) this would be even better.

Beware, once you go 21:9, every other screen just doesn't cut it.

  • Postage only? Can't seem to check out with pickup option.

  • Horrific for web browsing and other things such as pdf

    • How come?

      • Maybe people get used to with normal 25" so with this they have to scroll up and down alot - not convenient - short height monitor but ultra wide

      • It fits a very small amount of vertical height so you have to scroll constantly
Almost like looking at a tablet in landscape mode but the screen view halved
Probably best to check a place like Harvey or JB and check a webpage on this resolution

        • +1

its the same vertical resolution as a normal FHD monitor

        • @furythree:
Yeah that's right I compared it to my res of 2560 x 1440 which has a lot more height
So if you are used to FHD it may be ok but still a lot of empty space on left and right of browser since scaling is poor
I suppose it depends on which res you are coming from and what monitor is used for

I own this monitor as my primary monitor. I'm a massive gamer, I play CSGO, 1.6, COD Black Ops 2 and 3, etc. I have the monitor overclocked to 75hz in Nvidia Control Panel, easy awesome overclock that the monitor fully supports.

Now, this monitor is small vertically as many other people have said, but when they say 25", it's fully true - techically this monitor is 25" diagonally, but it gets a boost because of the width.

Game support in games I've played:
    - payday 2 - black bars on main menu, but works in-game fine.
    - CSGO - play it at 1920x1080, GUI is broken at 2560x1080
    - Rocket League - perfect
    - Black Ops 2 - stretched menus, game works 100%
    - Black Ops 3 - see above

    It's overall pretty good actually.

    • Do you use widescreen fixer or flawless widescreen for Black Ops 2 MP/ZO?

      • Neither - game just works

        • I'm surprised u don't mind the stretched aspect ratio in BO2
I would have use it if VAC/TAC wasn't a problem

  • +5

    Cover me. I'm going in.

  • I think a monitor is one of the most important parts of a gaming PC nowadays. With 120/144Hz G-sync or ULMB it improves gaming in way it never could when all monitors were the same except for response time.

Don't cheap out and get a 60Hz monitor. save you money, get a proper gaming monitor.

I was about to buy this last year and the guy at MSY talked me out of it because it is to short? he said he said you really need the 29 inch monitor for it to make sense always nice talking with the lads at city msy

    • Happened the same to me. I was about to buy it but at the end I didn't cos it was pretty short.

      • Then the other problem is because it is longer people have to make sure it fits in there desk space my 24 inch only just fits i could probably bet in a 27 inch just!
for games also some games may not play at that resolution….

    • Too short for gaming? I suppose it should be good for spreadsheets and document editing, coding etc.

      • mate i am not sure to be honest but he said height wise it was similar to a 19 inch screen? maybe when they make a new battlefield it will be more of a standard resolution more companies are taking up that resolution… i guess as every one said it will be good for movies.

I grew up with a CRT screen playing red alert so my thinking is backwards lol!

But i have seen a lot of people now days are moving to bigger screen me and my friends personally stay with around the 24-27 inch monitors

        • Yes Sir.

      • Maybe people get used to with normal 25" so with this they have to scroll alot - not convenient

        • yea true… But i always used a square monitor and i got use to using a 1080 by 1920 screen….

other problem that may arise is how does vsync handle these resolutions?

  • Can you connect a ps4 to this?

  • Is split function any good? Just after video editing monitor and nothing fancy pancy stuff.

    • +1

If you are editing 1080p then you will need to scale or scroll to view the entire moving image. Probably be better off with a mininum 1440 res if you are working with 1080p.

      • Thank you for your advice! I'll keep that in mind :)

  • Should be a great work monitor, however unless you have some specific games that can use this resolution it's not gonna be for you

    • actually a horrible work monitor.

For work, you really want as much vertical pixels as possible.

This is why 16:10 monitors are still preferred over 16:9 ones.

In my opinion, this monitor is really only suitable for watching movies. The added width means that some of the new movies which are shot at 2.35:1 will fit on this screen with little "black bars"

For gaming, its a pain the arse to get it working correctly as games are generally coded to support a 16:9 type resolution. It's not absolutely the case (there are some exceptions) but it really isn't worth the hassle.

      my 2c.

    Cheers OP

I bought one of these from Kogan in November 2015, quite happy with it, it's an excellent monitor. Price at the time was $239 plus 20 bucks delivery, so the MSY deal is pretty good.

  • +1

    Thanks OP, got one.

  • +1

Note to anyone using a Mac, you have to use an app which supports custom resolutions because OSX doesn't support 2560x1080 over HDMI

    • My MacBook Pro worked fine with HDMI. To show other resolutions, hold down the Option key when clicking on scaled in System Preferences.

  • Are there any other good deals on monitors right now? I'm looking for something I can colour grade photos and video on so I want something that's reasonably accurate (don't need anything too professional though)

    • This thing has 99% SRGB on an IPS panel, it's actually really nice for the price. Blacks are black, colours look amazing and even CSGO's new maps (Nuke/NEWke) looks awesome at this res.

      • Factory Calibrated too

        • yup, comes with the calibration sheet in the box with everything you need to know about this monitor.

      • Is there anything similar but with a standard aspect ratio? The lack of vertical height would cause problems for me. Thanks for the comments

  • Ultrawides are only good for specific tasks such as word processing/proofreading, photo/video editing, gaming (provided the game supports full use of screen res.) or 21:9 movies (fills screen w/o stretching).

TLDR: Good for pretty much anything or if you find bezels to be too detracting & making it less immersive for games. Nothing a dual or triple mon. setup can't do w/ bonus of more screen real estate for not much more money.

  • +1

Nice price, but my oh my… When are they going to stop selling us these ultrawide monitors?

  • +1

Get sick of going to msy only to be told they have no stock

    • +1

varsity lakes are showing stock…i can grab one from slacks creek if that helps you out.

      • +1

Thanks for the kind offer but all good, just airing my frustrations at the last couple of times I have been to varsity lake for special offers.

  • So many complaining about the height of the monitor, however the height resolution is 1080 which is what most people are using these days? The standard work monitor is this res, are all these people complaining they can't do their work? It should be fitting just as much vertically as any other 1080 vertical monitor or am I missing something?

    • 92 Votes in favour of this deal so far and a number of people are complaining about the vertical height of this monitor. I find it hard to make up my mind whether to like or dislike this deal.

    • It's not the resolution, it's the physical height. 25" stretched more in the landscape direction won't be as tall. It should fit the same amount on the screen, but it'll be smaller
