  • Will make it a good deal on the XTAR VC4 battery charger (currently AUD$34):

  • I might get that D40A or MH20

    • I've had a MH20 for a couple of months now - and it is excellent.

Lots of modes including 6(?) levels of variable brightness that are easy to access. For the lumens, it's small, solidly constructed and comfortable in the hand. And it can charge the battery in the torch through a usb port - no external charger required - great!

And at 1000 lumens it's bright enough to floodlight the park across the road from my place :)

I'm thinking for my next one, i might get the EC4SW - still compact-ish and 2000 lumens. i don't know what i would do with a torch that bright - but it would be fun :)

      • bought ! the usb charging is a big plus for me, cheers

  • Not bad. Any idea how long shipping takes?

    • I have just had an order from FastTech refunded by PayPal - it was for a NiteCore charger and some lithium batteries. They said 7-14 working days, but it has still not arrived - ordered on 23/02/16, so almost 10 weeks so far.

I got sick of waiting and contacted them for a refund, and they wanted me to wait another 2 months for the shipping company to "investigate", so I lodged a PayPal claim, and it has been approved. I will never buy from FastTech again.

  • +1

As a rough guide my last order arrived in just under 2 weeks - to Canberra.

I'm posting this in case they increase the price. The HC30 is currently $41.78. I am insta-buying if they take another 15% off

    • Highly recommend this head torch. Used it for 3 days over the long weekend, build quality and design is excellent, and yet feels very light. Has high output, as a result I used it mainly on the 1st/2nd (lowest) setting which was more than enough light to illuminate paths etc in the distance. Seemed quite efficient, with a Panasonic 18650 3400mAh I chewed through about 15% of the battery (if that?) from solid usage for approx. 5hrs each night.

I will be buying another this Sunday for the partner, as well as a few extra batteries to have handy - they're so cheap!

      • I will probably buy one anyway, I just hope the price doesn't magically increase by 15% on Saturday at 11:59pm. I had an HC50 but gave it to a friend and now I miss having a decent headlamp.

  • do they also sell the adaptor for AU wall connections?
    looking at the HC30+ charger

  • OP could you recommend cheaper 18650 Battery & Charger kit? I will probably only need 1 battery and 1 port charger for HC30 thanks

    • The ones I have mentioned in the post (here) are cheap and seem to get very good reviews, but it depends on the device you're using it with. 18650's vary in size from model to model (whether they are button top or flush for instance) so make sure you pay particular attention to the dimensions of the battery and the device you're putting it in.

I made sure the above batteries fit into the HC30, which they do perfectly.

EDIT: Sorry, I speed read your comment, in the original post I put the 3 products that work well together, the HC30, the D4 charger and the Panasonic 18650's. There are a raft of chargers, there is also a cheaper D2 (2 slots only), however I wanted to be able to charge 4 at a time (higher 750mAh output for 2 batteries on the D4). The D4 also charges NiMh as well as other battery types, so quite versatile. Quick google suggests two other good chargers:

      https://www.reddit.com/r/electronic_cigarette/comments/413hr…

Unfortunately I'm in no way an expert on this stuff, so someone else might be able to suggest better.

      • Thanks! Do you know if HC30 accepts both button top and flush top 18650 battery? Just want to make sure I buy the right one

        • Not OP, but as far as I know all Nitecore lights need button-top cells. You could always pop a little magnet on the positive end to make contact.

        • Great thanks ebosh!

        • HC30 specs say:

MAXIMUM SUPPORTED BATTERY LENGTH 65 mm

The Panasonic 18650's I've quoted in the original post are 65mm in length, are flat tops, and work with the HC30. Looking at the positive terminal of the HC30 you could see why a button top is preferred, so you might have trouble with some flat tops, although as mentioned the Panasonics above are fine.

  • Torch porn!

  • Great time to get a charger and expensive rechargeable batteries for people with Netgear Arlo.

  • Any recommendations on a USB rechargeable headlamp?

  • Recommendations for simple AA / AAA smart charger? Easy to use, not too expensive? Noticed my mother in law and mother are each using timed overnight chargers…

    Not working for me…

I also tried DEALS like it says on their home page still nothing!

Edit: Sorry! half drunk with nothing better to do than buying damn batteries

    • Working for me, did you wait till 3pm today?

  • worked fine
got the same as you but with two extra batteres and AU adaptor

  • This would have zero chance of getting through customs right?

  • can someone recommend a good budget (no frills) charger for a 18650? I've purchased a Rong Li flash light from 2012 that I have not used yet… seems that I have never managed to snag a 18650 battery. I'm looking at buying the Panasonic that OPs buying but I don't want to spend too much on a charger. Something that will just charge the 1 battery is fine…

since the battery is a 2 pack, is there any recommendation for another flashlight for the spare 18650?

  • hrmm wondering if I can use printer power cable for the charger (D4)…connection looks the same

  • sorry, but this is a stupid question, does the Panasonic NCR18650B Rechargeable battery (https://www.fasttech.com/products/1141100) have a layer of clear plastic cover that I'm suppose to remove?

I'm unable to fit these batteries into the Miller ML-102 Universal USB Smart Charger https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10001919/1137904-miller-…

    :'(

    • Hmm mine didn't when I received them. As they physically don't fit into the charger??

      • Bugga didn't reply or the right message

  • Yes, wouldn't fit physically
