Beats by Dr. Dre Studio 2.0 at Dick Smith for $159 (Penrith NSW)

80

Guys at the time of purchase there was a total of 13 Beats Studio 2.0's left at the Dick Smith Penrith branch. Only blue & red were left (didn't remember the exact number of each)

These retail for $399 at JB Hi Fi & Harvey Norman, so for this price it's a steal even if they aren't true audiophile headphones.

This should be the national price across all stores.

  • They still open?

    • Receipt date is today. I was wondering the same thing, Im pretty sure theyre all shut up here.

    • Last day for Penrith is Tuesday.
I picked up a remote control tower fan for $20. Retails at Harvey Norman for $129.

Not as good as a guy who managed to get the buy of a century. Ex Dyson V6 for $25 or $30. It was potentially faulty but as it was scanned up as a new purchase it would have warranty.

Adk your stores if they have damaged returns to purchase

"so for this price it's a steal even if they aren't true audiophile headphones."

Just because shallow "name brand" idiots paid a lot more for sub standard product before does not make them a steal now just because they are cheaper.

I have to disagree there, total rip off for thr RRP of $399. I always thought they were worthy $199 -$250 at most. Taking away the bias and negative opinions of the original Beats Studio, the new 2.0 revision has decent acoustics. If you're main music genre is rap, hip hop, dubstep or really anything bass focused you'll be quite happy with these.

I own a sennheiser 558 and Bose QC25 and i can honestly say that i was quite surprised at the Beats performance. While the Bose is my preferred commuting headset I can understand why people enjoy the Studios.

Probably be happy with the Moki Drops I got for my kids from Woolies for $10 too :) Plenty of bass, not a lot of anything else though.

      • I bought a pair of audio technia ath-40x from store DJ for $119.00 that sounds 3x better than these beats that i think are worth about $49.00

But they have t make back their money in order to pay for the advertising

    • Well theres value and there's bargain. While I agree that there are a plethora of products that offer better performance for the price. OzBargain is all about the cheapest price for a particular product.

If people want to throw away money for these… more power to them.

Friends don't let Friends buy beats.

  • Website says they're suppose to be $149 now. Wouldn't count on prices being constant nationwide, they're useless.

    • Damn, i just saw that. I'm hoping it was only just updated. :(

Perhaps the liquidators are trying to get as much as possible and haven't updated their point of sale database yet?

    • If the web or ticket price is cheaper than the scanned price they should be able to overwrite that at checkout. Happened to me when some $1 Move phone covers scanned up at $3.

      • When they were suppose to be 60% off ($159), I spoke to two stores that had the price as $199 (50%) and they told me there was nothing they could do about it.

I would go back and ask for the difference back but its a 20 min drive one way to Penrith for me. The petrol wasted probably wouldn't be worth it…

In a small way seeing as all avaliable funds are being directed to employee reundancies first, im happy to contribute that $10 to help them out. As far as all the other creditors are concerned, well…

        • Some of those 'other creditors' are regular OZbargainers just like you.

They owe me $100 in gift cards, which I'm sure I'll never see!

          I didn't neg u though.

        • @nismo:

Oh I completely overlooked that, i was more referring to management and the upper ups that made the choices that led to this point..

        • Yeah, I drove over an hour the day the headphones dropped to 60% only to be told the website was wrong.

        • @cala90: worst feeling ever, i would have been gutted and pissed off too.

After this whole experience I'm glad to have a break and ao is my savings (spending ) account.

There are only so many hdmi cables and mini cables that one can have in their cupboard. Lol.

          @Zackyd:

Yeah, in a way I was glad as I've wasted so much money buying bargains lol. I honestly wanted a pair of wireless headphones which is why I kept putting off buying the Studio from DS!

I think all Beats by Dr. Dre headphones are 10x overpriced. Even paying $50 is too much IMO.

    • +1

Even if they paid you to wear them, you'd still look like a gullible idiot.
      Maybe OK for home use.

    • Careful

I badmouthed them in another thread and got negged

Guess some people think because the paid a stupiod amount of money for a logo and crap headphones (bought into the advertising crap)

      And i got negged

      • Where is the link?

  • -3

Yeah Dr. Dre headphones are overpriced and probably ok only for listening to hip-hop music. But people who listen to hip-hop music most of them could not afford it.

  • any stores in VIC still have stock? They don't answer phone any more…

    • I would assume there would be.. I was told NSW & VIC had the biggest amount of orders for these headphones.

Unfortunately as we are only a few days away till closure staff answering phones is pretty much a common trait.

If you're close to the regional or suburb based stores its worth a punt if you're desperate to get these headphones.

The Asian-ness in me leads me to believe the CBD/city stores would have probably been wiped clean from greedy re-sellers.

    • Fountain Gate and Nunawading had HEAPS of stock a couple of weeks back, I went again the following week and both were sold out when they dropped the price to $199.

      • That's the one thing I hate about big sales. You know it will most likely get further discounted the longer you wait but you are gambling that other people don't get itchy and pull they buying trigger too early.

I guess savings and value is dependent on the individual. What might seem a tad bit pricy for us might be a deal for others.

At $199, it seems like lots of people saw value at that price point.

        • +1

Yeah that's exactly it mate. They were at $229 for a while and they had heaps, seems as soon as they hit $199 people thought "bargain!" haha

  • +1

Yeah was $149 yesterday at Toombul QLD, long gone. I was waiting to down a bit from $199 but someone snap them all

    • +1

You probably don't realise that you won by missing out.

      • Probably, $99 was my mark, no hard feeling though

  • Anybody know if any Melbourne CBD stores still have these?

    • Nah Asians cleaned these out straight away.

  • Good price. In my local store today they put new stocks of iMac and iPhone dropping the price further to 20% off.

    • Ozlab, where is your local store? :)
