WD Elements 1.5TB External 3.5" HDD $129 @ Orange IT

141

Found this deal this morning on their website - the link doesn't say anything about free shipping but if you go their Main Page (http://www.orangeit.com.au/catalog/index.php) you can see it on the right hand side, a little icon with 'Free Shipping' clearly displayed there.

Orange IT have stores in NSW only - City, Haymarket, Hurstville, North Sydney, Auburn.

Cheapest I found on StaticIce was around $150, not much less.

the orangeit.com.au website seems to not be working for me

    • Working fine for me…

    • it is not valid for negative vote

damn thats an awesome price for a 1.5, is that legit!

  • Srtill show free shipping on RHS and mine can't be cached. But when go to check out is says $10.80 shipping

    • Hmm yes you are right, I cleared my cache and it was back. But I removed it from the title just in case. I am buying mine from in-store so not sure about the shipping.

  • No free shipping option on checkout, making a total of $142.65 for delivery (Melbourne). Don't know whether it was a limited time deal or a rectified error.

Edit: Now the free shipping ad is gone from the RHS. Looks like no deal/deal over.

  • Good deal. I'm actually after internal 1.5TB for my NAS and it's actually slightly more expensive at $133 - http://www.orangeit.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=68… - anyone knows if they use the same HD and if so, is it easily removed ? And put in older drive in WD case ?

Edit - Just ordered one for pickup anyway at that price. If case is re-usable after HD is pulled out, it's a bonus. If not, still cheaper than their bare drive.

  • I ordered and took a screenshot of the deal with free shipping. I selected pick up from one of their locations and put a comment saying please honour their deal as advertised and actually post it.

I intend to pull mine apart too and use as an internal drive, I expect it's just a standard SATA drive inside.

  • Their regular price is only $135. The special saves only $6! It clearly still shows free shipping on the RHS so almost misleading advertising if they don't honour it because you don't find out that it's paid shipping until you have signed up and ready to pay!

    • True but $135 is already a good deal imo and $129 is even better, esp. when a 1TB drive going for $99 is one of the top deals atm… its really a no-brainer if they are the same to get the 1.5tb

  • Anyone knows what drive is inside? I hope it's not WD15EARS.

  • Has the City store moved or closed? I was in the city a couple of days ago and it's no longer there (opposite Wynyard on York St)

  • The hurstville store is the worst.. I went in today and the guy tells me its $145. I say to him the site says its $129 and he argues with me about it until he checks and then he tells me they have a handling fee of $15. Finally he says they have no more stock anyway.

    • WOW, DAMN that is super dodgy… still cheaper than anywhere else though! just none in stock…
cant believe he tried to pull that, thats what so good in this day and age, if someone is shonky everyone gets to know fast due to the power of the internet…

      • I ordered earlier to pay and pick-up in H'ville store. Got email confirmation that it was ready for pick-up. Doesn't say anything about $15 handling fee in invoice. Will report back later. Noticed it's gone back up to their normal price on site now.

    • +1

I reckon that episode deserves a big fat neg, go on.

  • just checked no free shipping and back to normal price of $135. What a doggy company.

  • Just picked up and paid at H'ville store. $129 after confirming my email address. Doesn't look like an easy job to remove the HD though as it's all sealed with no screws. Sort of expected - wonder if I shd've paid the $4 more to avoid the hassle…

    Update: This helped - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZUMh_H3B_Y&feature=related

    • Interesting so the guy lied to me just to get rid of me.

  • with shipping is $141.85 (to Brisbane). Not bad, I paid for a WD 1.5TB just yesterday for $170 @ Officeworks with free shipping. It's got a nicer looking rounder profile and can stand up on a table.
