Cringila Petroleum E10 $0.899 per Litre Diesel $0.999 per Litre (Wollongong, NSW)

510

The service station at Cringila appears to be under new management and E10 has been at 89.9 cents per litre for the past week. Unsure how long it will last but by far the cheapest I fuel I have seen in this part of the world.

95 Five Islands Rd, Cringila NSW 2502

I would prefer to stay away from E10. The only reason we have it in the first place is because of grubby politician hands getting cashy cash

    • +4

I tend to agree but when it's $0.16/l cheaper than the vanilla unleaded alternative I make an exception.

      • +2

        Meh. E10 is fine.

Upside: It's 95 octane, it burns cleaner and is cheaper than standard 91.

Downside: You need to fill up more often.

Cost-wise it's usually a few cents cheaper and pretty much a wash on a per-km basis.

My local is normally 2cpl different so I go for normal unleaded. If the gap widens I'm quite happy to put E10 in.

        • @ kent spot on

I use e10 in all my cars and I never had a problem. Even the 200sxi had

        • E10 is only 95 octane at a few retailers such as United. Most retailers you will find only rate it as 93 or 94 RON. So if people have a car that needs 95 as a minimum, you need to be careful when purchasing E10…

        • That was going to be my question.

Is this an E10-91 octane, like the horrible shit BP makes?
Or is this an awesome E10-94\95 like Freedom\United make?

So long as your car doesnt need more than 95RON, E10 is no harm, and actually keeps your engine cleaner.
The horror stories come from the USA where they introduced E20 and had cars lean out.

      • I run about 70% E85 and 30% PULP98 when I get the chance. The performance boost is incredible, I had trouble fathoming it the first time I filled up! This is in a non-E85 >2000 Euro vehicle.

Of course, I tried E85 in another of my >2000 vehicles years ago; it hardly made it out of the servo…

I drive past this place every morning and afternoon, I can't bring myself to pull in and fill up. I have a constant feeling the petrol would be diluted at those prices.. May be it's just me.. But it looks dodgy, they had Shell pumps when they moved in …

    • +2

I have 2 independents in Port Kembla. I swear the petrol from these places (which is 10c cheaper than Shell), makes the car run poorer. Even the non-E10. And yet I keep being told the petrol is from the same place

Might be worth noting that even though it may have 95 octane, the octane burns off the fuel fairly fast when not used immediately or kept in storage for a while. Also ethanol attracts moisture rapidly and you don't want water in your fuel. The exhaust shops love ethanol because you will be visiting them sooner rather than later if you use ethanol fuel regularly. It's not worth using at even 30c a litre cheaper IMO, but each to their own.

      Source?

    • +2

The higher octane in E10 comes from the additional of ethanol, not any other additive like high octane premium unleaded fuels. Ethanol is actually less volatile than petrol, so the octane boost from the addition of the ethanol isn't going to 'burn off' suddenly…

Exhaust systems were rusting out long before ethanol was introduced into the fuels and a lot of new cars now use stainless steel anyway. You'll probably find doing lots of short trips (which dont heat up the exhaust enough) is going to make more of a difference to exhaust longevity than any added moisture from E10…

    • Most australians would go through a tank in a fortnight.
None of those concerns are valid unless stored for over 3 months (poorly) or 6 months (correctly).

Its quite simple to DIY a water test kit for fuel :)

      • You mean 3-4 tanks in a fortnight?

  • OP, Do you know the address of this service station?

  • +5

Cring at how dodgy the price is

while you're there stop at the kebab shop, they are delicious ;)

    • Ain't that the truth :)

    Free water in fuel

  • I live in Queensland, but I still give it a +1, amazing price for fuel.

Isn't this meant to go in the forums? Fuel Watch?

Obviously past it's 'best before' date…

    • Very cheap humor.
Suits this kind humor only for someone like you.

so now you are resorting to personal attacks..

do you get a kick out of trolling?

if you knew anything about fuel, you'd know that my question was valid, but obviously you don't…

        • why don't you explain what you meant JV?

lol love the irony in your question about trolling, trollson. there is more irony in what you say about personal attacks.

        • @Gimli:

irony in your question about trolling

says the person who can't control themselves from commenting on most of my posts…

        • @jv:

haha. there so many of them. obviously people are going to comment on your post.

now now jv, its just ozbargain don't get too worked up.

        • @Gimli:

obviously people are going to comment

a couple of you have become groupies… probably makes you feel more important…

whatever rocks your boat I guess…

        • @jv:

          groupies… lol
isn't that what you want to think to feel more important…

good night. Sorry for not being a good groupie.

        • @jv:
You are so worried that I'm commenting on most of your posts, but what about you who want to make useless comments on everyone's posts whether it's related or not.

You should know by now who get a kick out of trolling?

        • @syamcvaa2:

          You are so worried

          Nope…

    • The ethanol's a preservative, so it should still be safe to drink…

  • Bargain!

  • +1

Saw it at 93c about a month ago in Adelaide, perfect for those with pre-2000 300km commodores/falcons/magnas that seem to be the choice of young bogans

  • Thanks OP, filled up earlier and so far so good…

    • Good luck!

      • +1

Got through 3/4 tank before refilling and as expected there was no issues! Gave the Falcon a flogging too….

I'd buy from the servo again if the price was right.

        • Awesome! Might have to give em a go.

  • Ethanol fuel, if its 94\95RON is a reat decision for cars designed for 91RON fuel.

You get a nice 'safety net' in octane.
You have a more complete burn of your fuel.
You have less carbon buildup in the engine.
    You pollute less.

    The down side?
IF your car is equipped with a sensor, you'll burn 3% more of it, due to the lower BTU's in the fuel.

More likely, is that your car will compensate very minorly (1~2%) since narrowband air-fuel sensors are bogus and like to err on the side of rich.

This results in your car running about 1~2% leaner.
Sounds bad? Think again. There's a reason I said a car designed for 91 will love this.
Lean means power, but it also means heat (EGT) and risk of knock.
The higher octane resists the knock perfectly fine at 2% leaner.
The EGT's from a car designed to run on 91RON will be extremely low, due to the retarded factory timing.

All the above is kinda pointless to explain though if you have a modern car, since most of europe REQUIRES an E5 fuel at all service stations, and japanese cars are coming out E10\flex fuel OK'd.

basically? Unless your car calls for 98 RON, go for (profanity) gold!

Diesel at 99c is even a better deal!

    • Yes, I have not see Diesel cheaper than $1 for a long long time.

  • Unleaded got down to 99.4cpl yesterday in Perth (or 95.7cpl at a Woolworths with the voucher or Coles with RAC member card).
