Ok sure, can you explain/give some specifics? The selective offers in this post don't seem grossly inflated though, you don't have to purchase a particular item, just a minimum spend.

Could your experience possibly differ to others?

I'm not trying to have a go here, I just don't think your reasons are clear enough to neg this particular deal.

      • -5

No worries, I just compared prices of about six items, they were cheaper elsewhere. Its 3.50 AM so I am going to sleep or I would research the specifics.
Tomorrow night when I punch off work I will do that.

        • +3

To be fair, that's the merchants', not Amex's fault.

Disappointed they're not bringing the cruising one back since I missed the last one, but might be time to buy something from Pet Circle. Thanks, OP!

        • @jennkei:

I think the ecruising one is still valid for another week. $100 off $500 spend is pretty awesome.

        • +5

So dont take up the offers. I wont either, but no reason to neg. As for Amex being the most costly??? Annual fee - I make that more then that back on deals, plus he free return flight is worth much more, even if I fly Tiger, instead of Virgin.

Sure the retailers with a amex surcharge can make it more expensive, but then don't use it.

But IMHO their customer service is almost worth the fee anyway. Nothing is ever too much trouble.

Anyway looks like the mob has neg'd your neg.

        • @Hoju: I saw you mentioned that it's up to mid-May, but I can't find it on the list. T_T How do I get it?

        • @jennkei:

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/235854

That's the original deal post but the registration period has probably expired unless you can find a manual link somewhere

        • So why didn't you include links rather than just demanding we believe…

        • @Hoju: Yeah, I saw that but it's expired, like you said. :( Oh well.

My Amex is free. Oh wait, no. Thanks to all the Amex offers, it's cost me about -$300 over the past couple of years.

How do you compare companies like Cue and Veronika Maine? They're their own brand!

    • +3

Rather than angrily downvote you like 'the pack', I'll tell you, you're right and wrong.

AMEX used to be and may be the most costly credit card historically, but there are a couple of the cards which literally are free (feeless). I got one thanks to OzBargain and it's been good.
I've already had one of these particular monthly deals which netted me $70 pure 'profit' (Myki / Public transport credit is as good as cash if you intend to continue living in Melbourne and using PT) I only regret not having more cards to top up even more.
I made another $10 buying drinks at a nearby bottle shop, didn't even know they were in on the deal
I made $15 just buying electricity a couple of weeks ago

Plus the points I got, for signing up, IIRC was 7 or 8000? With a little spending I've now got that to 9000 points, equal to a $50 Coles card (virtually cash as well) so I've basically "made" $145 with the card for 12 months, paid no interest, no fee.
My username can be found on the referral page too btw ;) ;)
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/american_express_referrals

Seriously though, if you know how to balance your money and catch the deals posted here, it's a good card.
Would I say use it as your only card? NO, in that case, there are the occasional stores which say no or charge slightly more fee at the till. A smart bargainer can balance 2 cards and come away in profit.

    • There are plenty of no annual fee, 30+ days interest free, rewards earning Amex cards out there. This alone makes it worth it as long as the merchants you shop at take the card with no surcharge and there are plenty of them out there. Why not put it on Amex if you can?

As for the offers, these spend x get y offers are always stackable with whatever other promotions a merchant may be running - who pays full retail, especially on this site? If you spot a bargain then go buy it and get even more savings because you have an Amex.

They are literally giving you money. The bastards.

Just because you think something, everyone else is a Nazi. As a newcomer, to any place, if you want to play with the locals understand the rules of engagement. If you want to drive on the right side, rather than the left, expect the locals to clash with you.

Negative voting here is different. Your opinions would be left alone, just you used a negative vote differently from what others here are used to, so the way they show that, is to vote your post down. If you hadnt misused the vote, your comment probably wouldn't have been voted down.

If you like others dont like the way voting is set up here, complain the the moderators.

    • No it's majority dictatorship.

    Op posted this worth respect
If you have issues with AMEX or the merchant, complain all you like, neg op is unnecessary and wrong
I have to agree with you that AMEX CARDs are expensive for merchants and these offers have no appeal to me.

PS if you really want check the difference, find some bargains/deals, the fewer you can the worse these deals are. NO ONE LOOKING for expensive ones, here we look at deals

I've been waiting all morning for you..

      • Now if only they'd rego all my cards then run around topping up my Myki/Go cards this weekend!

        • I've been looking for something to be able to get more points value from myki spends - is that where you were going with that?

As usual, purchase of gift cards is excluded in terms and conditions as eligible transactions. Had anyone had any experience re: whether they truly don't get credited towards these types of offers?

    • +3

If you're not buying gift cards, take it up with Amex by calling them. In my experience they've always credited you back. Takes a bit of time but they do have the best customer service I've experienced of any financial institution imo.

    • Well they work in the Woolies/Dan Murphy offers, even though they're excluded.

      • For the Cue offer it's online only - I don't know whether Amex is able to track whether a gift card was purchased (since it's not in store).

        • The last Dan offer was online only, but I got numerous wishcards & the statement credit for each.

        • @supabrudda: Thanks, good to know.

  • I dont shop at any of these stores mehhh

  • petcircle prices are on average 10-15% more expensive..

    • Where do you go for your pet food?

      • vetsupply,budgetpetproducts,petwarehouse..several options..

        • My food from pet circle is $69.90 delivered, you got me all excited (As I haven't changed in years!) but I've just checked all those sites, they start at $65+ shipping (which I'm assuming would be more than $5)

        • @zukand: which food is this?

        • @stockastics:

Iams Dog Adult Small Medium Breed 12 Kg

        • @zukand: ok. i was just suggesting alternatives. i usually order flea and worming from vetsupply..they have a 10% discount code VETSUPP10 and its free shipping for any order amount..

        • @stockastics: I'll have a look tonight, with 10% off it might work out better.

    • they have 22% off Comfortis at the moment - I cannot find cheaper.
      Petcircle also have price guarantee
