AmEx Explorer Card: 130,000 Bonus Points ($4,000 Spend in 3 Months), $400 Travel Credit, $395 Annual Fee @ PointHacks

240

This is one of the better deals we've seen in a while, but note that MR points are being devalued on 15 Dec (read more here: https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/amex-membership-r…)

Usually the bonus points appear in your account fast (within days) of meeting the min spend, so you may be able to transfer them out before the deval.

Receive 130,000 Bonus Membership Rewards® Points when you apply via PH by 21 October 2025, are approved, and spend $4,000 on eligible purchases on your new American Express Explorer® Credit Card within the first 3 months. T&Cs apply. Available to new American Express Card Members only.

Keep in mind the massive devaluation in December for transfer partners.

    • +1

Yeah, it makes AMEX card less value….

    • yeah probs worth adding to the description

  • but only 65,000 velocity points?

  • +2

Man the old days of having this + platinum linked membership rewards to get better redemptions are long gone. Seems you can do anything fancy to earn your points these days.

    • +1

Good old days my friend. the MR Gateway to Accent! Good times ;(

    • +3

The dream combo: Explorer + Plat Edge, 2 pts / $1 on everything

      • Haha good to see some other card churners remember the good times. Back before the stupid inquest

        • Ya, good old days, I remember we had to call and find a good agent who knew how to link those 2 membership rewards together.

          • +1

@T-man: Now that you mention it yep, went through a couple before getting a local dude who was just like yep yep yep.

  • Sorry in the link above, it says for QFF "Qantas Frequent Flyer (only with Amex Platinum Card)", does that mean we can't transfer the MR points into QFF for this card?

    • -2

It appears you can transfer AMEX MR Points to QFF: https://www.americanexpress.com/en-gb/rewards/membership-rew…

    • +1

No you can't transfer MR points earned with this card into QFF.

Yes you can. Back door via ER:

Everyday Rewards is the loyalty program of retailers including Woolworths, where you can redeem your points for discounts off your shopping.
What’s particularly interesting about this partnership is that you can also choose to convert your Everyday Rewards points into Qantas Frequent Flyer points. 2,000 Everyday Rewards points are worth 1,000 Qantas Points.
Effectively, this means you could transfer Amex Membership Rewards points to Qantas Frequent Flyer (via Everyday Rewards) at a rate of 2.5:1 – even if you don’t have an Amex Platinum card.

  • Wish AMEX would give incentive to upgrade my explorer to their charge card, just throw me some points smh

  • I literally got approved by this card yesterday through the 100k refer a friend program :(

Anyone know how long before the points become available? There wasn’t any spend requirements for the referral offer afaik

    • +1

      There's definitely a spend requirement. Likely $4000.

  • Any idea if this stacks with the referee bonus above for 75,000 Reward Points? It's my 4th AMEX churn but haven't used the referral system before… thanks

  • So, good if you want to add points with international loyalty programs like Hilton, Qatar, Singapore etc ?

Doesn't look great for people with VFF accounts. 65k points for $395 (before $400 travel credit).

  • Got rejected for Amex couple of days ago, only 1 card churned this year.
    Did 3 churns last year.

  • Another rejection :(

  • Do they typically send rejections via post ? Not heard any updates to my application via email wondering if I’ve been rejected. Thanks!

    • +1

If they emailed you "We're reviewing your application and will get back to you in 5-10 working days. If we need any other information, we'll be in touch." but didn't contact you for further info, then expect to receive a rejection letter in 5-10 working days.

      • thank you! i've been approved today, had to call a couple of times, each time they ask for one document. I applied 1st week of october hopefully that means I am still eligible for the 130,000 bonus points.

  • If you just used the points for gift cards (no need for flying), is this worth it. Can you buy e gift cards for groceries with these points?
