thanks jv - we can read it too.

        • +3

i'm not sure the last time you booked a flight without any conditions…

anyway, this took me 4 seconds to find:
          https://www.flyroyalbrunei.com/en/australia/plan/fare-condit…

        • -2

          @aaam:

I'm referring to the specific conditions mentioned for this sale, not the general ones in your link…

        • @jv: Please read the post properly.
It says Conditions Apply and doesn't talk about any Specific conditions.
Then, why are you looking for something that doesn't relate to the post?

        • -1

          @syamcvaa2:

It says Conditions Apply and doesn't talk about any Specific conditions.

It reads as 'conditions apply' for this price which might be specific… Thus why I asked…

        • +3

          @jv: Yes you are correct.
That's why I said earlier that read the post properly before commenting.

I know you are very keen on commenting inappropriate/off-topic things before reading it.
It's hard but try doing it.

FYI…Check how many of your posts are marked as inappropriate just today.

That's why I said earlier that read the post properly before commenting.

There isn't any info in the post description about the conditions… It just states that there are conditions.

That's not very helpful to people reading the post…

  • Patchwork quilt of fares through to November but if you're shopping with specific dates in mind, most date combinations are around the $1400 mark .. anyone had recent experience of Royal Brunei coach??

  • +5

Just don't expect them to crack out the champagne ( "Royal Brunei Airlines operates alcohol free flights to all destinations" https://www.flyroyalbrunei.com/en/brunei/information/regulat…)

    • -8

What about a ham sandwich ?

      • You clearly know the answer man.. come on

        • -4

Pretty sure Qantas serve halal food.

Do Royal Brunei serve non-halal food for people with special dietary requirements.

        • @jv:
All food served by royal brunei are halal.
I am not sure if there is a non halal special dietary requirements. They simply don't serve pork products and all other meats used are certified halal. Apart from not getting pork products, everything's else are the same as what you get on other airlines.

Having said that, i am not sure if they offer kosher meal with them being an airline from an islamic country

        • +2

@jv: A non-halal dietary restriction isn't recognised by anyone but ignorant bigots so no, it's not offered as a special meal (on any airline).

        • -2

          @callum9999:

A non-halal dietary restriction isn't recognised by anyone

Lots of people chose not to eat halal food because of secretive nature of where the money for certification is really going…

          but ignorant bigots so no

the real bigots are the ones you force their beliefs on others and take away choice…

        • @jv: Not really. A small number claim to not eat it, an even smaller number actually don't. Doesn't change the fact it's not a recognised dietary requirement.

I would agree if that's true, but you're obviously lying. Not offering you the food you want isn't forcing you to do anything. Not to mention even this airline isn't doing that. Have a bigoted opinion of Muslims? Eat the vegetarian meal. Your choice.

        • -2

          @callum9999:

it's not a recognised dietary requirement.

I recognise it, so it is so….

          @callum9999:

Have a bigoted opinion of Muslims?

Seems like you are the bigot here, choosing not to eat halal food does not mean you hate Muslims.

It is something you are making up to promote hating…

      Alcohol On Board
Royal Brunei Airlines operates alcohol-free flights to all destinations.

Not much detail about this on their website.

Can you BYO at least ???

  • +2

Can take your own booze if you absolutely can't go 22 hours without a drop of alcohol…

RBA is great… even in economy. Service and food is top notch and the new 787s are schmick. Can recommend.

      Just behave, right?

      https://smartraveller.gov.au/countries/brunei_darussalam:

In May 2014, Brunei began phasing in a new Islamic Sharia penal code. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, the offences and punishments set out in the code will apply to both Muslims and non-Muslims.

      • Was there in December and you'd be extremely unlucky to be picked up by police on violating a law. As lovely as the people are, the system is a little corrupt - allowing tourists to get away with a lot.

Source: I also lived here as an expat for three years.

Before we moved to Aus, we did the UK-NZ trip every few years to visit friends and tried to stop in various places on the way.
Used RBA about 8 years ago and they were excellent.
We still think one of our best ever holidays was the 4/5 day stopover in Brunei.
We stayed at Centrepoint I think and used an Aussie company to take us on tours each day - had an ex-Brunei services guy as our personal guide and saw some amazing sights, cultural and natural wonders - the best was climbing to the top of the rainforest canopy and the kids eating giant ants. Yes it's dry, but seemed safe (we also visited a small island and had 2 armed guards for that - I initially thought they were there to kill any crocodiles that came our way!) people were exceptionally friendly, great food and very clean. Visited the Empire Hotel a couple of times - probably would stay there if there's a next time (the kids were 7 & 8 at the time and have always wanted to go back - but I don't think they fly direct from Sydney to London, so the 'lazy' opportunity hasn't arisen!)
I would thoroughly recommend the airline and also Brunei as a place to visit - though of course things may well have changed since then.

    • It's a nice option if you're in Melbourne though. A lot of people don't like 3 flights against the normal 2 flights, but if you go with Brunei you have 3 flights of roughly equal length (7-8hrs). Not so good if you're normally able to sleep relatively well on flights, but if you don't (like me!) it's nice to get a decent break from the seat for an hour or so.

  • Has every one forgotten that Brunei recently adopted Sharia Law?
Maybe not such a family friendly destination anymore.

    • Life is precious.

    • I cannot imagine how Sharia law will impact family friendliness for tourists? Unless it is a family of drunks, or trouble makers with the intention of challenging the local law?

I am ready to stand corrected, but to me that is just a comment without sufficient backing evidence.

  • Not making any comment on the deal but i worked tarmac side at Brisbane airport a little over a decade ago, things i saw, not going to fly with that airline.

    • Those things being?

      • I have heard they updated their planes, so it's probably not as bad.
For example seeing a plane arrive missing a wheel, which had fallen off on take off.
They were really bad at departing on time often waiting 3-4 hours.
But again they've had along time to improve and have a newer fleet.

        • Thanks for getting back to me, though I can find no mention of that incident anywhere so have no idea if they were at fault or not - though if a wheel had fallen off at take off it seems bizarre that they'd fly all the way from Brunei to Brisbane in that condition.

One incident and 3-4 hour delays many years ago seems a bizarre justification for writing "things I saw, not going to fly with that airline" though. It sounded like you were going to identify real safety concerns!

  • +2

holy crap I booked it may 31-jun26. now what?

    • Have fun? hahahah

    • +3

      now what?

      get sober…

  • These flights look like they stop 2 times on either direction. Once in Brunei and once somewhere else from Brunei to London / London to Brunei (which doesn't show exactly where on the site)

    • Dubai is the other stop on the leg. The layover times are rather short though - 2 to 3 hours max I believe.

      • Dubai is generally only an hour or so. I got off the plane, walked to McDonalds then walked back to the gate with a take-away and they were already starting to reboard. A perfectly timed rest in my opinion (though not so good for those who can sleep on planes).

  • Looking at early July 16 - can't find anything under $1,900 (?)

  • Any other cities on special apart from Melbourne?

    • +1

Royal Brunei only flies to Melbourne

  • +1

Flew with them last month (Mel <> Lon), stopover in Dubai only gives you ~30 minutes to wander. In Brunei you have ~2hrs either way, but the airport itself has pretty much nothing to do and restricted free WiFi (think it was only an hour, plus super slow). There's free showers at both Dubai & Brunei though, so you can freshen up easily.

Worth it if you're looking to save a bit of cash; but no booze and heavily censored in-flight entertainment. Seats are decent, USB ports / power sockets on every seat, good food, decent in-flight service.

Think the tickets usually sell for around $1400-1500; but Qatar / Etihad are only $100-200 more and to me worth the price of not having 2 stops / extra ~4 hours of travel. Unless you can find tickets that are $1000 then easily worth it.

  • $999 for Economy, $5595 for Business. Huge diff I suppose, put's the $999 in perspective.

  • +1

beware the 2 stops each way which is a sleep killer.
30 mins shopping un dubai and 2-5 hrs wait in brunei depending on how many repairs needed / delay for connecting flights.
brunei has very patchy slow wifi and few shops.

for each stop add 30 mins to get off and 30 mins for queuing and boarding.
i had some stuff i left on board go missing.

u have to ask whether its worth saving $200 or so for 8 wasted hours and interrupted sleep.
    i wouldnt do it again.

also once the checkin is closed they have no reps at lon/ melb if u have an issue.

    • They told us not to leave anything on board on my flights. Did you ask if they were in lost property? The cleaners presumably either stole them or picked them up as lost items.

  • +1

Even though it's cheap, i'll never fly this airline. I don't support the sultan's empire or his views. Do a google about the country, the laws and you'll find lots of similarities between this country and the one that the whole world is fighting against in the middle east.

  • +1

I flew Royal Brunei years ago to London - it got us there, it was ok, and that's the main thing for most bargain hunters.

However, as a small airline, coming back there were issues with one of the planes, so it got delayed, then the flight got cancelled and we all got bumped to the next flight - problem is with only a small fleet, this delay became an overnight 24 hour wait until the same flight the next day.

However they looked after us, bussed us to a nice hotel to stay in with buffet food available - luckily I wasn't in a hurry as I had an extra couple of days off work.

I wouldn't go out of my way to use them again, but I wouldn't avoid a deal like this either.

    I don't usually prefer Halal.
Just a personal preference and being a supporter of animal rights, condemn the slow pain-staking slaughter methods.
So I try not to book with Brunei, Emirates, Etihad, Qantas, Qatar, Malaysian airlines.

    • -2

If you genuinely care about animal rights and not just part of the anti-islam crowd, all these airlines offer a vegetarian meal option.

      • +2

I love my meat, need the protein required, following my fitness schedule.
No offence to muslims or to you, zappy32, nothing for you to dictate my going vege.
Just that I don't agree with halal.

        • +1

I certainly didn't take any offence, but it's crystal clear that you're against halal for political reasons, not "animal rights". Otherwise you'd take up the suggestion of a vegetarian meal - a vegetarian diet of course being able to provide all the protein you need. If Olympic winning athletes can get by without meat, you sure as Hell can!

Controversy around the method of killing aside (which is invariably hyperbole), it's interesting to note that Halal guidelines demand the animal is well-treated throughout its life - something secular guidelines don't insist on. The fact no-one here is seemingly concerned by the 12 million hens locked up in Australian warehouses in cages so small they can barely move (they can't open their wings) and are covered in burns and lesions from the muck they have to stand in speaks volumes of the motivation behind the sudden "animal welfare" concern.

The only people I actually have sympathy with are the Sikhs, who are unable to eat halal meat by faith. Though they can just eat vegetarian on these flights.

  • +3

I'm a vegetarian, and non drinker and I live in Canberra.

I think RBA is one of the best I've ever flown; clean toilets pretty much throughout the flight, the plane was nice, staff were friendly, and luggage allowance was generous.

    • I'm a male Feminist who only eats gluten free after crossfit in the park

  • It looks like most of the seats on this low fare are gone, but the context of the offer is interesting.
Recently the flights to the UK/Europe have not been discounted to the same degree as ones to the west coast of the USA, but they are starting to move now. This is the first one I have seen for under $1000, and it will be worth watching to see whether other carriers follow suit. If the prestige airlines start to feel the pinch, they just might get into the game, the same way as Qantas has been somewhat forced to follow Air NZ, AA, United and Air Canada to LAX/SFO.
Could we soon see Qantas/BA/Cathay and the Middle Eastern airlines offer UK for about a grand?
And c'mon Qantas, LAX at $900 ex-MEL is fine with me, but another $900 to get to Las Vegas JFK?
