General note from other cheaper "outstanding bass" headphones I have owned and tried, they're good for bass but if you listen to non bass stuff like me they do tend to flatten the mids and especially highs. Again general note, never tried these specially.

No you haven't, I personally own these headphones and can tell you now they are not overly 'bassey' at all, they are actually quite good all around and produce a clear, crisp sound.

    • Your comment is fundamentally and stereotypically stupid. At least google before you think about writing stuff like that. It's the internet's version of think before you speak…

So if you googled for some reviews you'd see this, http://www.head-fi.org/products/sennheiser-hd-439-headphones

Also they can be modded for more bass if it's not enough for you, and the best thing about it is that it maintains the mids/highs with the bass boost. Mod is in that link somewhere.

I've got these and the bass is ok for me, maybe a touch more couldn't hurt but I haven't needed to mod them yet. Well balanced. Fine for bassy music when you turn it up. The increased bass would be better for gaming though. I don't hear footsteps so well in CS compared to other gaming headphones.

Pretty good price. Got these for $54 just a month ago. Some discussion there: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/240393

pretty sure I paid $48 in HN last year.

  • Thanks OP! I'll be picking up my laptop bag tomorrow if all goes well and I'll post back here with some feedback.

  • I would like a pair of headphones for flying with Jetstar as the earbuds they provide are next to useless for me when watching movies.
Any idea if these would suffice or any suggestions on something that would at a low cost. Thanks.

    • These are fine for movies if you want over ears

  • Target have been clearing old stock of earbuds, got myself jbl
    Powered yarbuds for $20 today
Seem pretty good, bass is strong but picking up lots of mid-range that I'd never heard before with the cheapies

  • Quite balanced headphones. Not a huge amount of bass. I recommend.

  • Thanks Scotty, managed to snag the backpack, looks good for $10.
Nunawading (VIC) store has stock, not many others do from my quick search….

Bought one when they were $67 which is a clearance price by itself. If you need a comfy and very good pair of headphones go for it!

The quality of the bag is quite questionable. Got it from the previous sale but only took a couple of weeks to get a tear from on the seams. Regular use, to carry my laptop to work. No rough handling.

      • I'm sorry, but I can't comprehend how something like the material this backup is made of can just tear with normal use.

        • Just had a look and the bag is ugly. But for $10 can't go wrong

        • It tore at the stitching seam as I have said.

          http://i.imgur.com/QyruVAe.jpg

Happened after two weeks of use. Never happened on any of my other bags before, hence why I question the quality.

        • @bchliu: asked for an exchange at least?

        • @cloudie9: No point for the $15 I paid (was online anyway). Basically very hard to prove it was a manufacturing fault as opposed to wear and tear. I'm just pointing it out here that its not the best quality and hence deserves the price tag - you pay what you get.

Having said that.. I'm still using it currently until the straps give way I suppose which will be the biggest risk.

      • Yep, same with mine, the strap has torn on mine, not all the way through yet but not sure how much longer it will last.

The vinyl also has a few holes worn into it particularly where the top corners of my computer contact it, it's only a 15" MacBook Pro so I'm not trying to fit too large a computer.
It took very little abrasion to wear through, Cordura or a woven nylon material would have stood up better to abrasion.

  • Would the Toshiba bag fit books and food (in a lunch box) well?

    • +2

Yes but it doesn't have the cushioning at the bottom

  • HD439 is back at $48 again. Marked as "1/2 Yearly" but the last price drop was only last month…
