Got excited, until I realised that the Absolute (which I have been waiting for a special somewhere), is full RRP at 899, with storecard discount brings it to 720, still more than the 699 EVERYWHERE else has it for.

not sure what the asterisk is for, but interesting that the DC45 can be had for discount on the 299 price (not the RRP of 499).

Got the V6 Absolute about 2 weeks ago from ebay Bing Lee for about $604 during the 15% ebay sale.

I think the title a bit misleading, you need to have David Jones Amex to be able to get it down to $187
Breakdown is 20% off $299 = $239.2, then minus $40 Amex cashback and minus 6% of cash reward.
If you use DJ gift card or store card, you will only get $225 (239.2 and 6% cash reward) and not $187

How this compare with V6 handstick? Never used Dyson product before so not too sure which one I should go for DC45 or V6 handstick?
If you have money, choose V6 as more suction. If it is only once in a while using it, you can go with DC45.
I checked with DJ and they said the 20% disc is not valid for Dyson DC45.
