  • It seems Masters also have their Olsent bulbs on clearance too.

2 pack works out to be a better per unit price than in the 4 pack.

  • Bought 4 for $2 ages ago & returned - slow to turn on at about 1 second!

Have been better deals over last year on these old style CFL bulbs.
    Previously sold 2 for $1 etc @Woolies

  • Thanks OP

Even if they were the best in the world, they'd still be awful.

That's not slow. Any CFL that turns on instantly is burning the absolute crap out of the filaments, causing seriously reduced lamp life. The LAST thing you want to do with fluorescent lamps is to have fast starting…. the longer the better!

That said, why bother with this old tech rubbish when you can get LED at $5 or $10. It's well worth the extra price just to not to have to deal with the slow start and frustratingly slow warming up period (especially in winter) before the CFLs give decent amounts of light.

Plus with LED you'll get that light level with 1/2 the power. So, run for just 1000 hours per year, you'd save $3 per annum with LED.

    • Well llama, in about a decade of using CFL - these were definitely the slowest to start up of any brand I've used (not sure of actual time). So meets your criteria. But not much use walking into dark room & waiting for light to start up (dimly), so returned.

I was warning people about the slower than usual start up time, which may not suit everyone. OP didn't state these were CFL.

Bought purely on price (50c ea against $5-10) to use in infrequently used areas. The economics aren't so great where the light is on for very few hours per year. So I still use CFL in those areas. LEDs in use in all frequent use areas - more economic to run & fast on time.

      • I was warning people about the slower than usual start up time, which may not suit everyone

Yes. However, a fast starting time with CFL is not a good thing (for the lamp life).

OP didn't state these were CFL.

It wasn't necessary to mention that.

        • I doubt many would understand what a "Tri-Tube Energy Saving Lamp" is.
"Crap old tech CFL selling at dearer price than previous deals" would be a better description ;-)
