ING Bans Referral Links on OzBargain

Does anyone find it sus that this thread was posted https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/225958 with OP listing his own affiliate link in the OP.

Now…. someone else could have very well made the submission but this guy was first. I was berated for suggesting it was unfair he has his link in the OP.

Now… this guy clearly made a tonne of money (probably thousands) from everyone using his link, rather than everyone being forced to go through the random link and making it fair for everyone by sharing the referral money.

So because of this one guy earning a tonne, ing was likely getting suspicious and that resulted in them banning ozbargain referrals all together.

All because scotty and all the other fools thought it was fair for one guy to get all the money for himself and not give any to the guy who was ready to make the same submission 5 mins later.

This community is so weird sometimes.

    • Hi, how has your day been?

      • Crap. I could only visit Ozbargain 10 times. Not the usual 50 :(

        • :( that's incredibly unfortunate, hope you get well soon xx

        • @lyl: A daily dose of jv is all I need :)

So don't use this site. Calling the mods fools is uncalled for.

  • This site has a lot of people that cry about other people making posts that earn that person someything.

Sometimes it's money, sometimes it's plussing a deal and so on.

    So unfaired againts.

  • If you check see the guidelines or our OzBargain 101: Lesson 3: Referral Links post, you'll see that we updated our guidelines a couple of months ago, following community feedback from the ING Direct deal:

Referral links or codes are not permitted in deals that are for the retailer's referral system (As of March 2016). Create a Referral Wiki Page and add your link or code there. See the ZenMarket Referral Deal as an example.

So the OP won't be able to list their referral link in the description since March 2016 (for referral only deals); only the referral randomiser or referral wiki will be present. Regardless of this, the randomiser has always been there so everyone can benefit even if they don't post (but still give the OP some advantage if they post a good deal).

If you have suggestions in future let us know in TWAM or via a forum post (posts/comments that are kept to the point may get a better community response).

Thanks. Better late than never, I guess.

Unfortunately I had to rant. At the time, I was getting downvoted a lot for questioning why OP was able to make a complete killing from referrals for himself when ozbargain already had a random system in place to make it fair. Turns out that not only was I right, the initial bad reaction by the community led to ING penalising ozbargain.

      • I was getting downvoted a lot for questioning why OP

Your comment was most probably negative voted so heavily due to the way it was written which opened with 'screw OzBargain'. As I said in the previous reply 'posts/comments that are kept to the point may get a better community response'. Other comments making similar points within that thread were not downvoted in such a way.

I'm surprised this post is still up; I'm impressed with the transparency.

Though I'm not entirely sure what OP is complaining about.

    • ING sends out a very generous deal for referrals. $75 for every person that signs up. Some dude is first to post it to ozbargain and therefore everyone uses his link when ozbargain has a system in place where you click a button and it will randomly assign you a referral link from an ozbargain member. This evenly distributes the referral money so everyone makes money instead of one person. In this case, people sided with the dude and resulted in one guy getting all the referrals for himself and eventually ING getting suspicious of the one person and subsequently banning ozbargain referrals.

      • Thanks for clearing that up, there is a herd mentality on here.

How long before his referral was removed?

  • O no…

I just signed up to the link above 5mins ago

  • My latest offer from ING contains the following in the fine print

"If you use this offer in a manner that is not satisfactory to us or in line with the intent of the offer (such as sharing your referral code on the ‘OzBargain’ website or other similar websites), we may refuse to pay the $75 cash bonus (including in respect of any or all referrals made in relation to the offer). "

    • We did it!

  • I just got an email from them today… I've got a few friends that hopefully take up the offer
