  • only the black prime is unavailable, looks like white is still around.
    US $439.99 (Approximately AU $608.56)

store has only been open since 29/12/2015

Black Prime was heavily discounted in this deal compared to white, likely the stock purchased for this sale.

      • blacks available in the sport package, whatever that is. probably some overpriced extra.
        US $415.49 (Approximately AU $574.67)

  • any official warranty for australia?

    • No.

Wonder if we will ever see a model compatible with B28/700. I'd snap one up for that price if it did!

    • All 820s use the same modem. There's no physical reason it can't. Xiaomi probably just don't want to for pay liscensing fees and testing/certifications. It is possible to enable bands on some of their other phones, Maybe it's possible for this too…

Maybe you should watch this video before making the purchase.

From the roughly $200 or so savings you can make compared to S7 make sure to spend some good money on a tough case :P

      • -1

don't forget that there is no warranty and there is no B28, not sure how much you value those but for me it is not worth the price. Great specs though.

        • +2

True, the warranty might be difficult to enforce depending on the seller. I might be hesitant to send my phone to random Aliexpress seller to fix.

Im not too worried about the bandwidths, I have used many grey imports and never had an issue. I will survive if I can't get 4G all the time. I have suffered when travelling to China for work and having to rely on GPRS connection for few days, even then OzBargain site loaded really slow :P

What a great reason to neg a deal. "This phone can snap in half if you use all your might to break it, what a bad phone, and therefore a bad deal"

Oh wait. That's a shit reason. Revoke it, that's totally unfair.

Agree to disagree. Spending around $450 for a poor build quality product with no warranty is not a good deal for me. Maybe $450 is not a lot of money for you but it is for me.

Thanks for the reminder to never set my phone on fire with a lighter.. >_<

    • Unless it was put in a 3-point bending test rig and the force measured, this is meaningless.

And who puts up lighter flames on to their screen?

  • not sure about comparable to s7, read many reviews about it, it is good no doubt but probably not at s7 tier.

    • In what way? The screen is almost as good, the battery life is better, the build is just as nice (if a bit fragile, the metal inner frame is thin), the camera is great, it's got USB-C and other features the S7 doesn't have, like Dual-Tone Flash.

      • +2

You basically answered your question by yourself and proved that is not comparable to S7 or any flagships of other major brands.

Care to explain? I'm not being malicious, I just genuinely fail to see where you're coming from, and love a good discussion :)

        • @deanylev: "Almost as good as", well basically implies that MI5 does not have quality display as S7, does it? However, it doesn't matter. It is pointless to discuss about the specs. You have already made up your mind and believe this is a great bargain.

However, I like to point out to you that this Xiaomi probably does not have Google Play Store out of a box and you would be required to go through all tutorials on the internet to unlock bootloaders. Then you finally realise you actually need a permission from Xiaomi to do that and the waiting period of getting that permission could be taken several weeks. Good luck with that, mate.

        • @motor89: Fair enough. I wasn't having a go, and hadn't 'made up my mind', as I said, I love a good discussion, and you make a good point :)

          @motor89:
You are wrong with this. It will have Play.

  • also hate aliexpress sellers gouge the price based on lick of paint, sure its supply and demand but seriously?

Typing with the Mi5 prime now.
Seems OK. I bought it in China. I'm not Chinese and don't really enjoy some of the Chinese apps and the way they seem to take priority over Google play store stuff. It's quite nice but I still think my LG G4 camera is better.

  • Need band 28

  • I'm really unsure spending so much money on a grey import, not fully Australian band supporting phone.
For instance the Nexus 5X 16gb is $580 and that's a fully supported, under warranty phone. Not to mention the vanilla Android without any spyware and virus (still remember the K3 note issues?!)

This is in another league compared to the 5X.

      • -1

You mean a buggy, no warranty league?

  • +1

I bought my Mi5 in April, paid $650 for the prime. Quite a nice phone, but the software is very buggy. Can't believe Xiaomi has withdrawn two Global ROM releases in a month (7.2.4 and 7.2.8).
