TM Lewin friendly email response

I placed an order with the recent TM Lewin deal posted on Ozbargain. I received the following friendly response from TM Lewin. Anybody else get anything different?

Dear Matthew

Hello and thank you for your recent order with us.

Due to a technical error on our website we noticed that you managed to get an incredible deal on our beautifully fitted, London designed shirts.

Normally we wouldn’t honour this sort of a discount as our shirts are of such amazing quality and value already! As you are a valued customer however, and we are so excited to have you back with us, we’ve embraced your savvy opportunism and hope you will continue to shop with us, so we’ve allowed your order to go through. That’s how confident we are in our products and the fact that you’ll love your shirts.

Make sure you also check out our beautifully tailored suits, our stylish casualwear, and our huge range of accessories.

And don’t forget to visit one of our stores throughout Australia to get the best of British tailoring and menswear right on your doorstep.

Thanks,
Geoff Quinn
CEO

  • lol how many did you order?

    • 3 shirts at $34 each including free shipping. Normal price for the shirts I chose is $89.95 (their non iron shirts)

      • I'm pretty sure I have seen this price floating around here somewhere before… I don't think it's a price-error. Maybe they are the opportunists…

  • Savvy.

"Savvy opportunism" is a euphemism for being a professional

I'm no longer "cheap", I'm "savvily opportunistic". I'm sooo using this.

resume skills - driven, self motivated, savvily opportunistic

Now that's how you handle it (regardless of it they cancel or honour). None of this accusing the customer of being a criminal.

  • how much did you pay?

    • From memory they were $34 each (including delivery) for their non iron shirts which are $89.95 when not on sale.

I think that's a prime example of turning a lemon into lemonade by them… They had 4 options:

    1. Cancel the order and not take responsibility for their mistake.
    2. Cancel the order, apologize and offer a token discount
    3. Proceed with the order anyway (but stay silent) and looking like they weren't competent.
    4. Proceed with the order and choose to engage with the customer in a positive manner, generating goodwill.

I think they did really well, and now it's paying off, because my view of them is pretty positive now.

  • Regardless, they are probably still making a (small) profit. Their shirts are made in China from what I can deduce and probably cost about $10 to produce.

But nice PR spin though. Give them props for that. Although I think their wording is pretty amusing and maybe just a little too much. "Savvy opportunism" - LOL, who writes this stuff?

Having owned a couple of the female version shirts from the various London brands, I find Thomas Pink shirts are nicer fabrics and better quality.

  • $34???

    That's cheap

I got onto the offer but it was $40 with free shipping, where the hell did the $34 come from?

  • I got a similar email… but mine said "as you're a new customer".

I have a lot of CT shirts already so am looking forward to trying the TML shirts.

Honestly, if I like the shirts this email increases my likelihood of purchasing from them again. Well played TML!

    • Geoff must have been up half the night writing emails.
