  • Thanks. +'d.

  • I bought this cable from Banggood in March

    Works fine for Nexus 6p

For MacBook 12", it only works to trickle charge extremely slowly with any charger I've tried

It may make your battery run down a bit more slowly while using the laptop but is not even enough to keep it alive.

Probably not the cable's fault, just in case anyone is hoping to charge their MacBook 12" through this…

Like you said, this isn't due to the cable. No USB A to C cable will charge a Macbook any faster.

USB A wall chargers top out around 12W/2.4A.

Macbook's ideal charger (the one it ships with) is 29W/5.9A.

Your Nexus 6P C to C charger probably only just gets the job done, and that's only 15W/3A.

      • I've tried to charge the MacBook using both the Tronsmart TS-UC5PC 5 port USB charger and a few different iPad chargers.

I guess there are no USB A chargers that would work any better?

No, USB A is officially limited to 1.5A as per the specs. Samsung and Apple ignore the specs and can pull up to 2.4A.

The USB A to C cable has a 56kΩ resistor that limits power draw to .5 to 1.5A.

        • @Maverick-au: If a USB A to C cable limits power draw to .5 to 1.5A, how can this cable claim 3A?

        • @davedave: Because it's false. I highly doubt it's truly USB3.1 as stated either.

I still bought one, as the other Blitzwolf braided ones are top quality (and Benson approved) - so I'm willing to take a gamble with this one.

        • @BradH13: Thanks - is this one true or false - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/244440

        • @davedave:

that one (the spigen) is benson approved (to be spec compliant).

        • @caprimulgus: Thanks. The Spigen - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZE36WH8 - does not seem to say what the max charging current is - .5A or 1.5A or 2.4A or 3A. Does that not matter to determine how fast it can charge?

I am getting an error with the code - This coupon could only be used 10 times

Never received my order for these from March.

  • This cable is NOT benson approved. Remove from title and description.

      Done.

      • Cheers! Neg vote removed. :)

  • Was there ever sufficient quantity to make this a listable bargain in the first place?

      Yes there was.
