Parking in Front of Driveway?

Hey guys, I have a small issue where someone has parked their car across the front of my driveway partially.

NSW ROAD RULES 2014 - REG 198

The image shows:

However, the car of interest is parked more like this.

Where the car is only partially blocking the driveway after you exclude the triangle parts.

Council said they will send out a ranger, but I kind of mentioned that it was not across the triangle bits, so they might not, but in fact upon looking at it again, it is… I'm not sure they will send the ranger out, but I'll probably find out when I walk outside tonight, i.e. if there is a letter on the car. The car has been parked there for days without moving (almost like someone dumped it).

Comments

  • So is the driveway obstructed (preventing ingress/egress), or is it just a little bit overlapping?

      • I think I'll delete the image now…

        Might be identifiable…

Message me if you really want to take a look and missed out.

        • If its there for a long period of time (2days or so) you can call the cops and they will tow it. (im in qld)

Failing that you could report it to customs as a suspicious car, just smash a window throw some chemical fertiliser in rofl.

The driveway isn't super large in width, but it is still possible to get out by driving onto the other side of the triangle area. Driving out in a straight line would result in a collision if proper care isn't taken.

      Rollerskaters

    • You seem to have an obsession with Bickies!!

Timtams, melting moments, mint slice - I love them all.

Urinate in windscreen vent. Wait for a sunny day

      That's disgusting …

Urinate in a bottle in privacy, then pour it in a vent!

  • just say its parked half across the drive and you cant safely get in and out. they should tow it away.
if not report as a dumped car.

Check to see if the car has current registration. It's free to look up the details that you were previously able to view on the rego sticker.

    https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/check-vehicle-reg…

If it's not registered then the council can tow it away. Still, the council ranger will probably check its registration anyway.

Put a yellow envelope under the windscreen wiper and give him/her a scare when they come back.

Can you get in and out safely?

If yes, stop worrying and enjoy your life, why does it matter? You're stressing yourself out and wasting time for no reason.

If no, I would start by leaving a note for the driver, if that doesn't work, contact the council, they'll tow him away.

  • Why stress out about it? Call the council and let them handle it. I am sure they are capable of deciding if actions should be taken on the parked car or not.

I've also heard its illegal to park your own car across your driveway….so watch out.

Solved the issue, saw the person whilst taking the bins in. They said they won't do it again. lol.

Talk to them is the best way and the outcome is much desirable

      • and if they park there again and you hit them while driving out you can say "I told you so"

  • Good to hear you have been able to resolve it. Have had some experience with illegally parked cars due to a continuing construction at the nursing home across the road. Have had council out and basically it is legal to park in line with the run of the driveway so they can overlap the triangle parts as in your case. Council deems this as an overly large driveway. Crazy though as my wife scratched our car driving in as 2 utes were parked either side and she caught the bull bar tying to turn in on such a sharp angle. One thing we have learnt - local council does not really care (not really a surprise…)

  • I'm on the opposite boat, I got a fine for parking exactly like the latest image, JUST protruding onto the triangles, not even blocking the driveway itself and got a ticket after parking there for an hour. Do I have a chance to fight it?
