Genuine Apple Units
Need an extra pencil for home or work?

Unleash your creativity with the Apple Pencil. This stylus connects to your iPad Pro via Bluetooth, giving you the ability to draw, paint, write, and draft with single-pixel accuracy. When in use, the Pencil and iPad Pro work together to determine the Pencil's position on the screen, the force at which it's pressed into the display, and the angle at which it is held. This lets you alter the thickness and shading of the mark you're making in a fluid, natural manner.

The Pencil can be used in a number of apps, including the Mail and Notes apps and a variety of third-party apps. It's designed for low latency and high precision, with the iPad Pro scanning its signal twice as often as when you use your finger. The iPad Pro can differentiate between fingers and Pencil, and both can be used simultaneously. The system also detects when you rest your hand on the display and ignores those inputs.

The battery lasts for up to 12 hours and is charged by removing the cap and inserting the Lightning connector into the Lightning port on your iPad Pro. A Pencil with a depleted battery can gain up to 30 minutes of usage time with a 15 second charge.

Bluetooth Wireless Connectivity
Transmits Position, Angle, Force
Sketch, Write, and Annotate
Compatible with Mail and Notes Apps
Compatible with Third-Party Apps
Up to 12 Hour Battery Life
15 Second Charge for 30 Minutes of Use

$129 for a glorified made in china stylus - LOL
$9.90 to ship the pencil - LOL

It's an absolute rip-off! I'm not talking about this seller as it's the cheapest I've seen for a while.

That said, having used my wife's one (which I bought for her), it actually changes the way you use your iPad. It's very, very nice. And unfortunately if I was to buy an iPad Pro I would have to get one too. I'd get that over the smart keyboard (another ridiculously priced accessory).

    $129 for a pencil???

  • +1

sigh.. so much for Steve Job legacy to not wanting a stylus. Now it's here!! =P

    • It's a pencil not a stylus. In fact it is "iPencil".

  • +1

Yes - it is expensive - but the price from MacFixIt is 22% off standard RRP.

Considering how low Apple discounts normal are from all the big retailers (10% - JB, OW, HN, etc), then this is a true blue OzBargain deal!

    • OP, don't try so hard to convince people that it IS a deal. Vox populi will decide that. Good on you for bothering to post. But yes $129.00 for a stylus is mighty hefty!.

BTW Im pretty sure they are in West Melbourne, 10 min. walking distance from North Melbourne Station, not Footscray.

  • To charge the Apple Pencil, take off its cap at the top and plug it into the Lightning connector on the iPad. ie. the pencil stick out 90 degree from the iPad. LOL.

    • Er, do you actually know anything about the Apple Pencil?

The normal way to charge the pencil is via the USB cable. Charging via the iPad itself is a stop gap in the event that you run out of battery whilst using it. It's not mean to be the main way to charge the pencil. In addition, a charge of 15 seconds from the iPad gives you 30 minutes of battery life.

      • Yeah right, charging with a cable too. For a premium tablet, that is as elegant as a steamroller. Take a look at what Samsung is doing with its pen.

        • You can't really compare those two in my opinion, because the technology used on it is very different.
Wacom EMR tech has its disadvantages (that said, next tablet I am going for probably would be a 8 inch Samsung Note tablet, if they ever release one).

Apple Pencil does have few design flaws here and there, as far as I could see. I could kind of see that they probably would change a lot from current gen design. That said it's a first gen device and you never buy a first gen product unless you know what you are getting into.

Anyways, here is a picture of magic mouse and the Apple Pencil. I think it sums up my opinion on the design rather nicely.

        • The charging solution for the Samsung pen is more elegant, but the Apple Pencil is an accessory to be used in certain circumstances.

If you have used the Apple Pencil before, you will know that there is no comparison as to which is better. The problem with the pencil that I have is not the way you charge it, but the price.

        • @changa: S pen doesn't require battery to work. It works by using magnetic resonance or something.

          http://www.wacom.com/en-jp/enterprise/business-solutions/res…

        • @Oversimplified:

The S-Pen does have a battery (but charges wirelessly). http://www.androidauthority.com/break-it-down-how-does-the-s…

        • @changa: Yes, magnetic resonance stuff. I've kinda linked it, but to quote from the link I've linked:

"This transfers energy into the pen wirelessly, like how a tuning fork makes a piano wire move without touching it. Once the pen is energized, it redirects that energy though the pen circuitry as a radio frequency (RF) signal. At that point, the sensor stops sending, and switches over to listening mode. The sensor can then hear the pen that is located above the sensor."

          And from your link:

"You might have wondered this already. The S Pen has a button that obviously communicates with whatever Galaxy Note device you’re using, so it has got to require some power, right? One possible solution would be a rechargeable battery that would charge when the S Pen was stowed away, but this isn’t the case. So where does that power come from? The answer: the S Pen pulls the power wirelessly from the device."

You cannot really compare that with other active stylus technology, in my opinion since… well it uses different technology.
