  • Any tips for accommodation for a family group of 6? (usual ozbargain style, looking for champagne accommodation on a goon box budget ($450 or less per day).

    • +1

The station isn't bad for larger groups, I usually go in groups of 4 or less. So i'm not familiar with rooms that large.

    • $450 per night works out to be $3150 per week. If you are a family group then I'd consider also looking at renting a two storey townhouse in Jindabyne. I'm not sure how to find them as my cousin usually organises the trips and picks up the keys from a realestate agent.

There are furnished townhouses with fire place/TV/sound system/lounge/dining/washing facilities which you could turn it into champagne style living.

Rental accomodation for a week is nice cause it allows flexiblity for days where its rained out, family members get sick or just don't feel like going out.

      • Agreed, renting a house can work out cheaper. You will need to get in early to make sure you get a decent place though.

Also $450 is a night is the most you will pay there, for the cheapest AirBNB you will be look around $3000 give or take a few hundred.

I'm not saying that it's the place to go, it's not even where I stay. But say for a group of first timers they offer more than accommodation, like ski rental, and lift pass + accommodation deals.

      • Cheers guys. How do you get from Jindabyne to Thredbo and at what cost? I read somewhere it is something like $40 pp on a train or something like that, which for 6 for a week adds up.

Looks like we are booking Hotham this year for in snow accomodation at that price point (But doesn't include lift passes etc and there is only a one off vehicle entry fee of around $45 and some Aldi snowchains).

Love to check out Thredbo though, never been

We have been know to brush past one another

  • I notice Thredbo has a world beating over 70 season pass price of $189. Lets's hit the piste!! Old blokes rule, OK .. :-) .. !!

    • +1

I belive Hotham is free for over 70's

      • Falls Creek is $5 for the card if you're over 70; you still have to pay (discounted) resort entry if you drive.

If you're over 65 and live close to the mountains then you can probably make some good money running a transfer service up there.

  • $29 more expensive then last year! stupid threadbo!

    • Yes but last year had terrible snow. Hopefully this year turns out to be better and worth going.
