McDonalds vs Hungry Jacks?

Or any other of that variety. Which you think is worth spending less money on? Personally i like Hungry Jack's angry whopper.

HJ's; 2 for 1 Bacon Deluxe using PDF voucher on phone - currently $6.95

    • +2

They should really call it the heart stopper… That burger is beautiful to eat but god damn your heart will curse you for it lol.

    • Which PDF voucher, just a normal HJ voucher as a digital version?

    • I don't know what happened but it seems like lately they changed the size to Jr when I used the voucher at the store near Flinders Street. 😒
When I was traveling to Canberra last week, the stores along the road still give me the full size burgers.

Free dominos pizza wins at the moment

    • Are you brodening the dominos mogul deal?

      • +3

Just anytime I need a pizza. I would only go to HJ/McD once a month usually, so about that often.

Best burger IMO is the Aussie burger - but it costs waaay too much.

Used to like the stunner chicken burger but it was changed to be hideous (or it was just cooked really bad).

  • +5

HJ's 10 Nuggets and large fries for $4.95. If you check in and win you might get a free large coke to. Don't forget free unlimited spicy sauce.

  • +4

    Hungry Jacks by a margin

    • Nice new logo mate

      • +1

        Thanks Savas!

Have a settled for this for the time being.

    IMO Domino's > McDonald's > Subway > Hungry Jack's

I've never had an enjoyable burger from Hungry Jacks, I always find it's terrible. I really like McDonald's chicken burgers, it's the only thing I'd buy from Macca's.

But lately with the price and quality of domino's, it's definitely my go to and far above the others.

    • +9

you must live near a competent dominos, i would rate the exact opposite

      • It's a brand new store, only about a year old and the portion/spread of toppings is always really good. Only thing I don't like is that they have new fast cooking ovens to speed of process but I'd rather it was cooked for a little longer

      • You rock bro! The question should be Subway or Hungry Jack's

      • +2

I agree - my partner and I have blacklisted both Dominoes and Pizza Hut due to the poor quality of their pizzas. Had Dominoes at a friend's place recently and it was way better. I think it really does change store to store which is disappointing. The Eagle Boys near us is amazing but other Eagle Boys we have been to have been hopeless.

  • +2

HJ nuggets by far. Maccas are dry and bland without any sauce.

Angus range at Maccas is far better.

    • I agree HJ nuggets taste the best but they are fluro yellow which is a little off putting.

  • maccas no doubt

  • +10

The new Hungry Jacks chips are amazing.
Still only in limited markets though I believe.

    • Is that the chicken fries or whole new fries?

      • +4

The new chips (thicker version) are being replaced with the old thin version.

IMO, the new chips are much better

        • Not only are they thicker, they're a lot crispier too.

        • @MrClown:
Had the thicker ones in Adelaide Airport and I liked them. Got free regular chips through Shake & Win yesterday, but they were only the old shoestring fries :(

    • I used to get them in London 13 years back, they were called King Fries, been waiting for them ever since. If they aren't actual "King Fries" they're close enough.

    McDonalds for life

  • +6

    Everything is better at HJ

  • +6

fire up your own grill FTW

    • +2

hard to do when you are out and about.

      • +7

can buy a portable grill, perhaps even strap it to your chest.

but be sure to wear heat resistant clothing and carry an fire extinguisher on your back

        • +4

and a deepfryer in your pants for the chips.

        • +5

@PVA: no, pants are for the soft serve machine, its just funnier that way

deep fryer goes on your head , duh ;)

  • +3

HJ for the burgers, Maccas for the food prep hygiene.

  • +1

    Kfc.

    • -4

      Hell to the F yeh.

  • +2

New chips at HJs are great!

  • +2

an untoasted veggie delight and a hashbrown or frys, luck i got McA's and Subs bear each other,,,
Topic was - Which you think is worth spending less money on? Who me?, yer Macca's…

    • HJ veggie burger without mayo with maccas fries can work too.

      • might give that a go

  • +2

I reckon a Whopper beats Micky D's standard burgers (big mac, cheeseburger, quarter pounder, etc.) but I'd take an angus burger from Mac Shack over a Whopper.

    • +2

Also the golden arches loses points from me because I find their menu really confusing, especially if I'm ordering in-store and have to rely on the dynamic LCDs behind the counter.

  • -6

People still eat at McDonalds? weird….. You should watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbZBJT358_Y
My kids (Both under 18yo) have not eaten at McDonalds for 5+ years. After watching the numerous videos showing how McDonalds food does not decompose after watching this:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uHxRwQqWFo

    • -2

Dont bother preaching how bad both these joints are on ozbargain. Your audience is full of a bunch of…………..

      • -7

Yes, true. The audience is a factor we must consider when trying to educate. Though with visual representation via the video link, I thought it would be much easier for them to comprehend. I would need to simplify the message further by possibly colour coding signs with "red" for "bad" and "green" for "good" or try a red circle with stroke at 45 degrees indicating a "ban" sign with the offending fast food chain logo in the background. Even still, this may not bring the individual to a level whereby they will stop harming their bodies to save that almighty dollar.

  • Since there is only a domino's or subway near me I choose a woolies or coles heinz baked beans + nachos corn chips + woolies sour cream + no frills home brand select tasty cheddar cheese combo (roughly $6-8 per serve). Or you know, noodles.

    • +1

We dubbed these 'bogan nachos' in my family. Delicious, ridiculously high in calories, cheap as hell and if you throw in some refried beans it's got a (admittedly tiny) bit of protein too.

      • hahaha bogan nachos, perfect!

Yeah it's like the best thing I feel especially for winter. Fresh and hot out of the microwave or oven. Beautiful.

  • Jack42 works in the advertising department for hungry Jack's

  • Can't stand that greasy after smell from HJ, loved the bacon delux years ago.

Maccas is good, I for some reason always order my default meal of a filletofish… But

KFC is the bomb, the local joint at my area never stuffs it up and is always finger licking good.
And you can't complain with 12.95 for 12 pieces of chicken.

I usually get the street wise feast and Adda few things on top for the family.
Don't get it after maybe once or twice a month… But now it gets rare because my wife is pregnant and has a serious craving for maccas chips.

  • McDonalds is much better then Hungry Jacks, not even close. Anyone who disagrees is probably just a tight ass :P

A well made fresh KFC Zinger Burger FTW, trumps anything the other two do IMO. Only problem with KFC is the shit can't be arsed staff, more times then not its average to bad. No chicken salt on your chips is the big one I'm forced to ask for 'extra ckicken salt' when really all as I want is some chicken salt to begin with. Plus they rarely give you any napkins unless you ask.

    • +1

Nah, Whopper is better than a so-called "Big" Mac ;)

Anyone who disagrees is probably just a tight ass

This is OzBargain; even if people want to splurge, Maccas would be the last thing on anyone's mind.

  • +3

Haven't had McCrap in years, no regrets :)

    • +2

Yep, haven't been to any of them for 15 years, but HJ's really are (were) better.

  • +2

The only fast food product I have particularly fond memories of is the El Maco from the 1990's; I'm not a McD fan but they really nailed it with that burger…the paired spicy shaker fries were actually pretty nice too.

    • +1

the el macos were awesome and so were the shaker fries. I also loved the mcrib.

      • +1

Yeah, thanks for reminding me, I'd forgotten about that, the original McRib was indeed a mighty fine repast. :)

  • +3

In all seriousness how are these outlets justifying $13 for a burger meal ?, they're just watered down coke, fried potatoes and bread with a bit of cow.

    • Yet the fools roll in the door, though at a slower pace. Revenue is down (thankfully!)
      http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-05-18/mcdonalds-future-uncer…

    • Some restaurants charge $30 cough Merrywell.

    • To be honest a lot of burger places have become bullshit in the past few years I mean they taste sorta great but really? ?? I think $55 was the highest I have ever paid for a burger even $45 is a bit steep. $20 - $25 is the most common I go for now but that's only really if they don't have a good schnitzel or pumpkin soup which most places do nowadays if not all.

I think some places are going a bit loco/crazy and adding unnecessary amounts of overpriced labour into the meal like that $55 burger. I forgot now where that is was probably somewhere in the city.

  • +1 Angry Whopper, awesom. The new HJ "King" fries too.

  • I rarely eat maccas now and was rather shocked a small MC chicken meal cost me $9.

Prefer Hj beef burgers but maccas chicken, esp the nuggets.
I also feel maccas is more consistent but Hj can, on occasion, be much superior.

  • +1

$2 Mega Choc Waffle Cone keeps me coming back to McDonalds. Even the cheapskate in me can't make me go back to a 50 cent cone.

  • +1

Wow im surprise that most people choose HJ.

I am a long time HJ fan, used to abuse the shake'n'win app, vouchers and free cheeseburgers.

However, i notice that recently their quality has gone down hill. The burgers are badly assembled. Fries are not crispy. Counter staff are all sweaty.

So i switched to Maccas. More expensive, less food, but it feel like what a burger should be.

HJ sundae is still very nice tho, better than Maccas.

    • +3

Just go to different store and most likely you will get different service.

      • I think perhaps the problem is bexause their store get overloaded very quickly, due to the cheaper prices and vouchers.

Been to 3 stores and the feel is quite similar, maybe i just picked yhe wrong time coz i always go near lunch time lol

But then lunch time at maccas, the food is more consistent with the other times. I respect other peoples opinion tho, everyones for themselves haha

    • That's accurate, see it all the time.

  • I really think the burger at Hungry Jack is really damn good compare to most other burger restaurant in Australia. Every time someone recommend me to try new burger place i will ask them if its better than Hungry Jack, and most likely their voice will change and they will start thinking again about their recommendation.

  • the $2.50 bbq cheeseburger + tomatoe + lettuce is the best deal =]

  • +1

Hungry Jack's is generally with coupons. McDonald's is better on public holidays as they don't have 10% surcharge.

  • -2

    Vomit vs. Diahorea

  • +1

i ohnestly dont mind either both make tasty burgers

  • -1

well… im biased as i a manager of one of them, DUh! Maccas

  • +8

The burgers are BETTER at Hungry Jacks.

This thread can now be CLOSED

    • +1

Wow you discovered the forum. Is this your first time posting in the forums.

      • He's not wrong though. Even at full price Hungry Jacks is better value. I suppose at the higher end, Maccas has some quality stuff but then you're almost paying real money.

With coupons, Hungry Jacks is so far ahead.

  • -1

Both are bad for you so I go with which ever is better value.
At the moment with HJ stunner I also get an extra burger with survey and something else with app.
At maccas I just get soft serve or $1 burger and free fries with survey, so good for a snack.
For a real burger, try to score vouchers for burger joints, grilld, NY min and the local one which is still on Groupon.

  • Doesn't matter where you go, if it's cooked as it should be it's an okay treat, but the quality is a mess and has gone downhill for a long time now. Micky D's seem to be more consistent than HJ, by a long shot, but HJ seems better.

  • I wish there was a hungry jacks within walking distance of my home. Only a mcds and a subway and tbh I don't like going to subway because it is near the train station (ba dum tss). Thanks guys/all/folks I'll be here all week.

  • +2

HJ's, i find they have more of that 'char grilled' flavour compared to Mcd's. + for the new thick cut chips too, amayzing.

  • Another absolutely stupid subject. Everyone likes what they like. Just buy what you like and stop wasting everybody's time here.
PS Go to a proper restaurant and buy quality food. Not this rubbish.
