Pretty good deal if you collect points on credit cards. Last time I did this it helped to pay a quarter of the cost for a return trip to Adelaide for me and my wife.

  • i've looked into this and to be honest, you're much better off doing a cashback with your points and then buying flights from your CC :)

    • Generally speaking, you're right, but seeing as Velocity points don't expire, you could potentially stack this deal with a points special sometime further down the track, which would make it worthwhile. But otherwise, yes it is probably cheaper just to pay for the flights and take the points as cashback/store vouchers.

      • Velocity points expire if your account does not have any transaction for 3 years - I got a note yesterday on my account!

        • Oh, that's new. I still remember when they first launched how they were making a big song and dance about how their points don't expire…

    • Depends how many points you get. Amex is 1:1. Most of the others are 1:2 I think.

  • Velocity points do expire if theres no activity for 48 months i think. yes i have found in the past that its usually best to pay for the flights and take the points as cashback or for store vouchers such as gift cards. its a better cash return ratio.
