Amazon reviews speak for themselves, looks like a good buy. $296 at Harvey Norman

    This or Edifier R1700bt?

    • +4

Funnily enough, I ended up getting an Edifier set when I was looking for speakers back in January, as I couldn't justify the $300 ish for the Klipsch that Harvey Norman wanted. I will tell you now, eventually you will miss the low end of a subwoofer if you get a 2.0 set, even if you aren't a bass head. A small part of me wants to buy these Klipsch speakers now, but I have some serious saving up to do for other things… But yeah the bass ports in the 2.0 speakers just can't reproduce low frequency stuff that nicely. I would definitely go for the Klipsch.

      • do it… buy them…

    • I more incline to go with the Edifier.

    • Edifier (1700BT, less so the 1280T) or something like the Mackie CR4/Prosonus E4.5 would be better for music, no? I am just trying to make this call myself. I don't really listen to bass heavy music so range/mids/treble is more important for me.

  • I can't find anything on the KG Electronics ebay store about being included in the CLICK20 coupon deal. Anyone actually used the coupon with KG Electronics?

  • Should I get this or the Swan M20W?

At this price point, they are both fairly similar. Not sure which one would have the better value.

    • I used to have the Promedia 5.1 set which was a fabulous set. Had to let it go due to moving country.
The twitter plus the driver will make a good difference compare to Swan which has just only the driver.

This Promedia had been around for more than a decade unless this is a newer version.

I would go for the Swan's. I have Swan m10's and they have an absolutely beautiful sound. Just incredible quality for the price. When i was doing my research i was looking at the Klipsch and edifiers as well and Swans won in the end even the cheaper M10's. I would love to upgrade to some more expensive swans but man these are just so good i think id end up with buyers remorse.

  • Is this a upgrade from Z623 which I paid for $79.20 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/200300

    • oh wow that was a great price

    • Well there are a lot of praises from the head fi website when I was looking for a new set of speakers… unfortunately that price is too steep for me… I went with a swan M10 and those are bloody good

  • Considering the fact that I would primarily be using these for music, would they make for a decent replacement for my Logitech Z623 2.1 speakers? The Z623's sound like absolute trash for music (although they are acceptable for gaming).

    • +1

I will say Klipsch will give a much better quality sound compare to all Logitech stuff.
I used to have Logitech Z5500 and Z640, and both doesn't even come close to Klipsch.

What you pay is what you get.

If you are paying this much, I will suggest that you pay a little more to get the Audioengine 2+.

      • Audioengine 2+ plus S8 (~$800) is a totally different league.

      • Awesome, thanks for your thoughts. I was really disappointed with my Logitechs so I don't want to get stuck with another dud set of speakers that won't sound good for my use.

If you want something for music, buy proper speakers. These will be underwhelming at best.

      • So the klipsch are terrible for music?

        • Not terrible, just small. And putting small speakers in a room they can sound … small. For the intended use though (ie: PC speakers where you sit close to them) these are amazing. If you want speakers PURELY for music you'd probably want something a little larger (bookshelf sized if you are space-constrained)

        • @rbyrnes: I'm actually loving my swan M10, those speakers are really good for music imo

        • @ProjectZero:
Then stick with them - after all, it's not about the name on the box, but what you hear that counts ;)

how does these fair with my current Microlab solo 7c? Pair with $500 DAC for hi-fi music and blu-ray my current sounds good enough but looking to upgrade… Link to the microlab:

Why would you use a $500 dac with cheap 2.1 speakers? That's like buying a $10k steering wheel for your Datsun Sunny.

Your microlabs are far better speakers.

      • well $230 isn't cheap enough in my book, plus i mainly use the dac for preamp with decent AKG open back headphones, just wondering if this is a sidegrade to what i have. But thanks for stopping me from impulse spending. :P

        • the swan M10 is roughly $169 last i check from PCCG. I reckon they're brilliant bookshelf 2.1 speakers

I've had these in the US and loved them. Moved to Australia and bought them again. They are great

    • that's what I did too! (had them there, sold them, moved here and bought them again used from gumtree)

Freq. response comparison with Logitech Z623 and some more:

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/pc-speaker-2.1-channel-s…

The writer says "Picking a clear winner between these two is almost impossible, as it comes down to personal taste."

At a glance I think Z623 (I own one) is optimized for movies, and the ProMedia is probably the better option for music.

Given that the ProMedia is considerably more expensive (my Z623 costed around $98), it's probably worth a listen at your local Harvey Norman or something before you buy.

  • yeah my Logitech were about $100 on price match. the problem with all these is that the mid and range comes out of very small drivers …

  • I'm on my 2nd set of these Klipsch 2.1s (I had another set 4-5 years ago) and the sound quality can't be beat for this price range. What makes me sad about my first set was that I bought them new-in-box at a garage sale for $20 and had to sell them because I was moving to Australia.
