The best deal is the 5 device license, if you need that many devices (even though the percentage of discount is less, combined with the savings of the bundled original price it's still the best value).

The worst deals are clearly the 2 year 5 device license, and the 2 device license. If you need 2 devices, buy the 3 device license for less and have one spare (give it to your mum).

I took advantage of this last year and it was a relatively simple process. It takes a month or two for the cash back to arrive, and from memory I think it was by cheque. Not ideal but not that bad, especially given ATMs can cash cheques these days.

I've been a big fan of Norton software for years. I find it very effective and unobtrusive. Most of the time it just does its thing in the background, and only alerts you when it's done something good or doesn't know what to do next.

      Personally I've found Norton to be very painless for the last several years on PC and Mac (before that I'd tried Avast, Kaspersky, ZoneAlarm, and maybe a couple others). Interested to know why people hate on Norton so much, and what they prefer?

      I know many years ago it was an annoying and ineffective bit of software, but I felt they really picked up their game over the last decade, and haven't felt the need to switch. Also it's great having a single license for all of my Windows, Mac, and Android devices (I don't install it on iOS because it seems redundant).

        Norton had a bad run in the mid '00. Seems a lot of people remember the bad taste, without giving it another run.
        I'm with you bteq. I gave Norton a try a few years back, and its nothing like the bloated days.

        I just don't see the point of paying for any AV nowadays. There are plenty of free ones out there available.

          I found the free ones to be more obtrusive and less effective, but I must admit I haven't tried them for some time now. Norton's just been so simple and relatively cheap I payed for the convenience I guess. Good point though. Any preference on the free ones?

          I do note in the review I posted above that Sophos, which is free, ranks 3rd just behind Norton for Mac anti-virus.

          @bteq: I use Avast at home and have Trend Micro on the computers at work, and to be honest, they're both as bad as each other with pop ups and the like. I'm willing to click 'X' on the occasional pop up as oppose to paying for AV as I said.

          In reality, if you exercise simple common sense, the chances of getting a virus is relatively low. An AV program is the last line of defence in that regard, there are many levels before it that can be used to prevent getting a virus.

          @Porthos: Not entirely true. There have been exploits that exposed people if they simply opened a web-page with an infected JPEG image. The AV community is able to lock down the exploit earlier than the software vendor can deploy a fix. It's rare but there are exploits that take more than common-sense to avoid.

        Probably not a typo though. Deals like this used to be around on eBay. They seem to have dried up a bit though. And that's particularly cheap for a 5-device license, even compared to past eBay deals.
