DJI Phantom 3 4K Drone + Free Extra Battery $1,099.99 @ ModelFlight

160

Granted it's not as great as the Kogan deal that has just expired but it's the next best thing, as this is the only one that's valid at the moment.

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/250656

What's makes it a good deal, the free extra battery, usually valued at $259.99

· In-built 4K camera, for great photography
· Camera with f/2.8 lens with 94 field of view.
· High quality video recording – with 4K HD
· Live HD view, see things you’ve never seen
· Fly distances of up to 1.2km, using WiFi connection
· Smart quad-antennae design
· 100% control, for 100% fun
· Engineered for easy, safe and innate flying
· Perfect for first-time flyers
· Use your phone to control camera
· Vision Positioning Technology – fly outdoors and indoors
· Auto take-off and auto return home
· Intelligent Flight Battery – no running low mid-flight
· Automatically logs your flight data

Take from that what you will. I'm hoping if ModelFlight get enough attention they start throwing better sales out including ones for just the batteries or other accessories alone.

Nice, i think you need a license to fly this?

    • Seriously? Do you just enjoy making bullshit up?

  • Good price OP

  • It was $2000 a year ago. The price has dropped because of a new model DJI Phantom 4 came out.

    • +1

I think you are referring to the Phantom 3 Professional that is over $2000.

This is a Phantom 3 4K. They are 2 different models.

    • +1

I think you have mistaken this Phantom 3 4K with Phantom 3 Pro.
This model is only a few months old with initial price of $1399.
The Pro is over a year old with initial price of $2399.
This model is now $999 with one battery from DJI online store. It's $1258 with extra battery. So you save over $150 with this deal.

  • The major diff between the 4K and the more expensive models is it has significantly less range because it operates on 5G. The higher the frequency the lower the range, this is true of all radio frequency systems, radios, phones, wifi etc etc.

I understand litchi evens that difference up….. for the brave

      • +2

Litchi won't get this model to fly as far as Advanced and Pro with their superior Lightbridge transmission.

        • @andy19363: Come on, you are comparing apple and orange there. Sending your drone out on mission is different from flying with you on the control and having FPV.

        • +3

          @edfoo:
Kinda irrelevant when you have to remain in LOS in australia no?

        • @wukachuka:

Not really, a 5.8g dji has a practical range of about 1km, while the better models do about 3km. The average person can see far further than that.

        • @ninetyNineCents: Actually at times I have trouble spotting my P3A when it is only 200-300m away. So I just maintain signal LOS, not visual LOS.

        • @edfoo:
presumably with approvals, otherwise you are flying illegally

        • @andy19363: Well I wonder how many owners of a Phantom drone never fly out of their visual LOS ever? I am guessing none. May be CASA should ban all Phantom because even the WiFi models can fly over a km away and many people would have lost their visual LOS before then.

        • @edfoo:
Maybe they will if people can't stay within the law…..

        • @andy19363: It's rule, not law. If they want to ban all these long range drones, they should have something similar to "buy back gun" campaign, pay us a few hundred dollars each and they can collect and destroy them. Otherwise they can stick their rule up their own backside.

        • @edfoo:
Rule/law…… doesn't really matter when you get fined….

  • When will these be automated home security devices?

    • +3

When you can mount guns and flame throwers on them. The cheaper models will have knives or flail.

They will operate as a pair on a set patrol path. with staggered intervals to return for recharging or there will be a recharging craft to go out to recharge them. During the day they will be solar powered.

They will also cost 1,000,000 times more than what I need them to protect. So I should just get a vicious dog.

      • +6

Jesus. All Inwanted was a HD camera that records.

        • +2

Why would you want a HD camera that doesnt record?

        • @BuyoTheCat: Why would you want a drone without a camera at all?

        • @Putnum:

Of course I want a camera. No point toasting someone with a flamethrower if I cannot youtube it.

I think tazer is also a good idea.

        • Guess what? This drone has a 4K camera that records, much better than a HD camera that records :P

  • So how does one know how far you can fly the drone out. Is there a warning? It just hovers at maximum distance? Or could it actually drop out of the sky when signal or battery die?

    • +3

DJI drones are quite intelligent. (till they just drop out of the sky)
There is a set max distance that you can program via DJI GO app.
When it loses signal or out of range with the remote control. The "Go Home" function is triggered. and it comes home. That is why it is important for the unit to record the "Home" position before flight. This is automatically done and you can see it in the DJI Go app.

The "Go Home" function is also triggered when the battery is at 20% (i think)
But there is a slight change it might not make it home with 20%,

In any case, it is not legal to fly it out of sight.

    • If you are worried about crashing a drone, this may not be the hobby for you.
You WILL crash, and some of the time it won't be your fault.
If you can't afford to lose it, don't fly it! ;D

    • The video starts to cut out and get choppy until you have nothing. After that the DJI models will pause and then head back home to the take off point.

  • I just got one of these and it's awesome! definitely need the extra battery, great footage.
