These are full size, not micro.

Isn't the microsd card better if its cheaper and it's more compatible for devices that only accept micro sized variant? I think the other listing comes with an SD card adapter which makes buying a full card redundant. Unless I'm missing something or it doesn't come with the adapter.

        • Elitists will always argue that full size SDs are faster…

        • Agreed. But I can just whack this in the Chromebook without finding an adapter.

        • The 16GB is cheaper but the others are the same price, there's no mention of an adapter so it's safe to assume one is not included, PC Byte has listings that specify an included adapter.

Some would argue why? And I would simply say why not? I grabbed a 32GB, I know where it will stay for it's entire life :)

          @baldy:
No adapter as they are SD, mot microSD

  • Price up compared yesterday

  • Is this good for DSLR camera? Any better recommendations?

    Cheers!

    • If you're just going to snap away in single-shot mode, and don't plan on doing any 4K and/or high-bitrate HD video, cards like this will do the trick.

Otherwise you will be better served by something with faster write speeds.

It does depend on your exact camera though. If it's an older lower end model then the camera itself will possibly be the bottleneck anyway and a faster card wont make things any better.

      It's all about the details.

      • Cheers, it is a Canon 600D, a few years' old model.

Looking at the continuous shooting performance of that model here (using a card with a 30 MB/s write speed): http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/T3I/T3IA6.HTM

I'd say that the I/O performance of the camera itself is indeed the bottleneck. So I suspect that these EVO cards will be a good match.

Having said that it's also a good idea to think about your next camera when purchasing SD cards, if indeed there's a chance you might have a new one soon.

        • Thank you so much!

@cainn: It's a good sentiment, but I'm not going to worry about my $19.96 SD card when I'm thinking of upgrading my $1500 camera.

        • @cainn:

Aa cainn has said you can usually be safe betting on matching up maximum camera write/read to card write/read. Once you move up the chain I'd recommend the sandisk extreme pro series.

If you have money, get a sandisk extreme pro card. $55 on ebay, just bought one myself

I bought a few of these a while back when MSY were clearing them — not the fastest, but their colourful design and solid construction appealed to me.

For those looking for a bit more reading speed they do come in the EVO+ Flavour for ~$6 more after the discount:

Now that I'm home I can do a speed test as below (For those interested in the performance of the orange flavoured EVO's):

      Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 44.618 MB/s
      Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 24.065 MB/s
      Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 9.211 MB/s [ 2248.8 IOPS]
      Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 2.327 MB/s [ 568.1 IOPS]
      Sequential Read (T= 1) : 43.417 MB/s
      Sequential Write (T= 1) : 32.084 MB/s
      Random Read 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 8.958 MB/s [ 2187.0 IOPS]
      Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 2.103 MB/s [ 513.4 IOPS]

      Test : 500 MiB [F: 40.5% (24.1/59.6 GiB)] (x1)
      Date : 2016/06/14 18:24:03

  • The equivalent microSD cards looks to come to the same price from the same seller if anyone is interested.
