Any EB Games Store in NSW Willing to Take Back a New PS4 Limited Edition Purchased Last Year ?

Bought this PS4 limited edition console (now sold out) last year from EB Games but then went overseas because of family stuff, came back recently still didnt have any chance to play it, still in box never opened. Heard that there is going to be a new PS4 version coming out this year, was thinking if it could still be returned to EB Games for store credits (wouldn't mind cash :) towards the newer version.

Asked. Some store employees said its only 7 days return otherwise can only do trade in like second hand. But some store reps informed it can also be up to the store manager's discretion. So wondering if OZBargainers know of any EB Games store manager (in NSW) usually kind enough or not of the normal work-according-to-the-book/day-in-day-out type, willing to take this chance to take back the console and put it up on his/her store shelf again, like an in-store special, reselling to an old customer who missed out on this edition, lucky draw, even giveaway etc. whatsoever for his/her own good to attract more customers?

Could definitely sell it online but too much hassles and in fact never tried that before so not going down that path for now. Purposely hiding out the details, not wanting to turn this into a trading post, but welcome to message if you want more details. Cheers.

  • Sell it?

    • Second on list

  • Not sure how any store could take it back when it's been so long. My experience with EB Games has generally been disappointing.

if it is really limited edition, you may actually get more selling it online. get someone you know to do it if you cant.

get someone you know to do it if you cant.

      …and you can, OP.

It's honestly not much more difficult to list something on ebay or gumtree than it was to post this question and read the answers.

Start it at one cent, you tend to get more in the end.

You will almost always get more selling it online then selling it to EB games.

  • Xbox manufacturers warranty behinds from when console first goes online, not sure how it works for PS4. If it still factory sealed in box I wouldn't have any moral qualms myself about selling it as brand new on eBay.

What limited edition version is it? Sell it on eBay and make some profit.

get someone to give you a new receipt and return it as it is with the new receipt.
Edit: oh wait, it's an old limited edition not available anymore. Might want to fix the title.

I think it's silly to suggest EB would take it back. If they don't sell it anymore and it's an old model then basically no one's going to be looking for it and they'd most likely have to reduce it to get it sold.
If OP wants to sell it back to EB Games so they can use it for promotional purposes then best to contact EB HQ instead of asking the public here.

I'd check how much it's selling for online, could be valuable.

PS4 to appeal to Gen Z in 20 years? Do they even nostalgia?

So selling online is definitely too much hassle according to you. But writing this post and then asking for any EBStore across NSW is not too much hassle. Are you really going to drive across NSW for a refund? You mention different reps said different things so you have evidently already made more effort across EBStores than it takes to sell online?
You then say that you are purposely leaving out details so it doesn't become a trading thread (it wouldn't anyway) but then invite people to PM you about it (surely that should be against OZB rules) which contradicts what you are saying.

It is extremely naive to think that they will refund you in full for an old product so that you can buy the Neo and that they can do a "giveaway". For a start, they can give one away at cost price. If they refund you then they have given one away at cost price plus the profit they made on your sale..all to giveaway a bundle which has depreciated which makes it even worse.

ps: You bought it, you didnt brought it.

    • Thanks for the spell check and your opinion. Selling to someone does not have too much hassle, the hassle comes from all sort of aftersale complications, like item lost, damaged, buyer returns, etc. Just my fear out of nowhere you can say. Returning back to a store, on the other hand, all settled the moment I step out the door, hence in my mind way less to nil hassle than selling it myself. I would agree this looks silly or naive if the console was any ordinary outdated version, my bet is on its rarity (limited and sold out), which doesn't expire.

      • I have sold a few things on Ebay AU since moving from the UK and so far I have not received feedback despite sending within 24 hours. It is concerning that the buyer can raise a claim months later and force you to receive a refund and leave you out of pocket.

Sell it on Gumtree or facebook etc and provide the receipt to them. They will have warranty and security and you will never see them again.

I think the new PS4K (or whatever it's called) is further off that you think. Microsoft's Scorpio console isn't set for release until christmas next year, and I've heard reports that Sony might be taking another look at the spec due to the Scorpio's leaked specs apparently being more impressive than expected. But I think it's pretty safe to say whenever the new consoles come, they probably won't cost you the same as a current console. If these things really are being built for 4K gaming and VR, expect a sizeable bump in price.

    • But EB games has alredy started taking preorders for the VR headset which comes in Oct this year?

      • +1

I think that's just the VR headset, not a new console. I could be wrong and they could drop a new more powerful box near the end of the year to support it better, but seeing as they didn't announce anything at E3, unless there's a Playstation Experience event scheduled for later this year I doubt they'd drop it without much notice. But again, just hypothesising here ..

      • They were taking preorders before Neo/Ps4K was even announced or being speculated about I think. Glad I didnt jump on the bandwagon back then since they now say the PS4K will "better" support it. Probs means the VR offering will probs be limited to Froggerand Pong.

  • What limited edition is it?

I know od the 20th anniversary edition, then the game custome one like starwars and black ops 3.

    Is there any more?

    • Could be the MGS 5 one, that would fetch a nice price, the Batman one is nice, but won't sell for much more than cost

      • Ok so there were a few different custom skined ps4s.
I can see the value of them go up but I dare say the die hard fan will inly want them and maybe the price wont be that high as you say for some.

The 20th anniversary edition will again only hold value to the one that wants it but still nothing special under the hood.
