    What??? Just bought at 79.xx
    Oh no

  • +2

Let's find out (how low these things can go)….. :)

  • wow.. another 4$ trimmed.. that's crazy!

  • Isn't futu really slow with shipping?

    • futu is fubar?

    • I purchased their crucial 240gb SSD(posted last week) and received it today. (although I live in Sydney)

    • Ok cheers for negs when asking a question

      • Probably the way you worded it. You are asking a question but making negative assumptions. For what it's worth my Futu order shipped really quickly, once I received the fastway collection email I had it the next day.

      • damn playa, they're being real generous with the nizzegs!

    • +5

I bought a computer part from futu with free shipping, received it in 29 hours after clicking buy. And I'm interstate.

    • +2

No they're really fast. It took me 2 days to get my order..

    • +1

bought an ultrabook from them last time, shipped out next day and received from fastway @ the same day, very good!

    • +3

What's with all the negs here today??

      Everyone, have a +Vote!

    • Yes

  • +7

Imagine if our $A was not so low.. ?? Would be cheaper than toothpicks :-)

    • +3

how many toothpicks are we talking?

      • Lad looks in the mirror… smiles and says, man I am so funny.. LOL

  • +3

Argh bought the $79 version few hours ago from the group deal. Is it possible to cancel the eBay group deal order even after commuting and paying ?

    • +2

      after commuting and paying

but you picked it up? lol

      • +1

That was a typo I meant committing and paying

    • Want to know as well! Maybe have a chat with eBay rep?

    • I don't think you can. After committing, they treat it as a regular eBay transaction (you have entered into a legal binding agreement, yada, yada, yada).

However, you could probably sell it for a profit after the Group Deal ends although it doesn't really matter. I've been away from exploring eBay for some years (part of the addiction recovery, haha) and I only discovered eBay Group Deals as a result of the $79.xx thread. Never even knew they existed.

      • Yeah Ur right, I checked and commit to buy pretty much means u bought the item now. Have to contact seller to cancel order. By the time seller responds in a few days this one will most likely go out of stock. Oh well $4 loss will have to write it off haha.

I'm also claiming part of this purchase on my tax

    • +1

Pffft the time to cancel the order is not worth $4, seriously

  • -5

thats a bloody good price, even for a POS that it is lol

  • +4

    i'm still salty i bought a 120gb for 100

  • +4

Will wait til tomorrow when they are $72 ;)

  • How do these compare to Samsung Evo?

    • +4

      From transfer speeds alone:
      Sandisk: 530MB/s read, 440 MB/s write
      Samsung: 540MB/s read, 520 MB/s write

Not a giant difference but if you are transferring big files regularly then maybe stick with Samsung. Important to note that both SSDs are "Up to" those speeds, so they might be functionally pretty similar.

In reality you are going to be limited by many other things than your SSD (exception being software, game installation, misc saving of files) such as the speed of your internet when downloading, transfer speeds of external hard drives, USBs and so on. These are your limiting factors, not your SSD.

  • Futu need to start selling SD cards too, give PC Byte some competition :)

  • add raid? any good?

  • +3

Are you negotiating these price drops TA?

    • -1

Good question, I would like to know too. It is against the rules to not declare affiliation so I reckon TA must have been stumbled upon this deal.

      • There was nothing sinister to it, I was just curious if he had any swing for some requests.

      • Could be a coincidence?
PC byte was out of stock a couple of days ago until today.
They must have negotiated a deal with their supplier
I do wonder what is the cost price of this ssd?

        • yeah I was just curious. Cost price is probably around $70-$80 I reckon.

        • @ShamelessBargains:
Just realised i didn't finish my trail of thought.
I was going to add that maybe Futu is competing with PC byte since they have restocked the ssd at a better price.

  • Could someone comment on the quality of this particular SSD, I've never had an SSD and thinking of adding this to my PC for windows and a few programs

    • +1

They're not as good as the samsung evo or the Ultra II but in real world use you won't notice too much difference.

Any ssd will make a difference compared to standard drives…Buy away old mate.

    • I can report that the SSD's case feels cheap and plasticky - not that it makes much of a difference to how it performs, but it feels less 'premium' than my Intel SSD with a full metal casing.

It comes in a cardboard box and comes with no extra mounts, cables or screws.

    • Plastic feel but let's be honest you'll probably only touch it once.
The performance is better than HDD obviously and for Windows it'll be sufficient.
If you're looking for something more well rounded, look at the samsung EVO or PRO
But at this price point, it's solid

    • Thanks, just bought one

  • +1

I paid $140 for one of these 12 months ago.
    And I think $140 for a 64gb one 30ish months ago.
    Crazy

    • Thw wonders of modern manufacturing.

    • +6

      Next year: I can't believe I paid $76.80 for 240GB

  • -1

    nice price

  • Good things come to those who wait :) Now I just hope its not DOA…

  • +1

Yeah, not going to buy another of these SSD PLUS drives.
    Had too many fail.

    • How soon? What were the symptoms?

      • SSDs dying don't have symptoms from what I know. They just die.

    • How many have you had fail? I'm running 5 of them (three desktops, one laptop and one netbook) - I haven't had an issue with any of them.

  • Thanks OP, got one to replace my old 60gb ssd ^_^

  • Awesome, was just thinking of buying a 240gb for $100. Just what I needed.

  • +1

Can I do the following on my MacBook Pro 13" (mid 2012)?

    1. Remove my old HDD (500GB SATA)
    2. Install this new SSD (240GB SATA) onto the slot of the old HDD
    3. Buy a bay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Apple-Macbook-Pro-Unibody-Caddy-O…)
    4. Remove Super Drive
    5. Install old HDD into bay
    6. Install bay

    Let me know, thanks!

Do you think the new SSD (240GB SATA) is sufficient as the primary HDD for OS and apps? I would have Final Cut Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, iMovie, Xcode, and MS Office installed.

    • +2

ive got that exact same set up and works like a charm :) SSD in the bay with the HDD in the normal spot and i have Adobe Prem and Photoshop with xcode

im loving it, so much faster than the standalone 500Gb hdd getting a 2tb 2.5in (9.5mm) soon for $170 :P

      • Thanks! I'll pull the trigger!

        • +1

just remmber to make a USB MacOS Install drive so when you put your ssd in you've got something to install MacOS with :P
also the new Apple File System, or APFS in macOS Sierra is optimized for Flash/SSD storage so everything will come up millhouse
(unless you wanna play games haha)

        • @MADBONE89:

I actually do play games, just Counterstrike on Steam :P

    • if you can bothered waiting for the caddy from china then it's available at aliexpress for US $3.24 delivered

I have a MacBook Pro 13" (mid 2012) also and have been considering doing the SSD thing myself. looking at installing 16gb ram at the moment as well

Edit - bought the SSD and aliexpress caddy. yeah, why not. need to speed up the macbook a bit. install yosemite. next step RAM

      • I've already got the 16GB RAM ;) Now just waiting for the SSD. How long is the bay from China?

Edit: Nevermind, just saw that it could take 1-2 months. I can't wait ;)

  • Someone compared this SanDisk to Samsung EVO (840?) earlier - but what about the Evo 850 which are $120 - apparently the 850 is a latest generation tech but is it worth shelling out an extra 40 bucks - probably not I guess.

  • Tweaktown's teardown of the 480GB suggested that it is a TLC device, they also have some benchmarks as well. You may want to have a look at the comparisons between this drive and others before pulling the trigger.

    http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/7726/sandisk-ssd-plus-z410-…

The Z410s (OEM version of SSD Plus) have rather low endurance ratings as well:
    120GB: 40TBW
    240GB: 80TBW
    480GB: 120TBW

    See: https://www.sandisk.com/content/dam/sandisk-main/en_us/asset…

In contrast, Kingston's UV400 (also uses planar TLC NANDs) in the same price range are rated at:
    120GB: 50TBW
    240GB: 100TBW
    480GB: 200TBW

    See: https://www.kingston.com/datasheets/SUV400S3_en.pdf

    • This is the first time I've actually seen a real review on these drives, and they don't look good! When they first came out some of the sites said they were MLC drives, so I bought a couple thinking they would be fine. Turns out that was totally wrong! That said, I'm using then for low use laptops, my htpc and the kids computers as the system disks (with larger hdds for storage and steam games) and haven't had any problems yet :)

  • Silly questions but you can pit these in a netbook right?

    • If your netbook uses a 2.5" SATA hard drive, yes. If not, no.

      • Exactly :) I'm running one in a acer aspire one, running Linux on it (I tried windows 10 which actually worked ok too)

  • Bought. Thanks OP.

  • Bought one! Thanks this'll bring some new life to and old laptop that I have!

  • Tempted but I don't think I need one

I got a 10 year old laptop on sata 1st gen don't think I wil get much out of it

    • Meanwhile, you've certainly got plenty out of a 10 year old laptop!

  • 94% sold!

Hi guys. Just wondering if someone could guide me through the hdd to ssd upgrade on a laptop. I have seen the video on youtube and its fairly easy to do. I am confused about how to clone the hdd to ssd. There are softwares available, but do I need a ssd-usb converter? I am not sure how to connect the hdd and ssd at the same time so that the hdd can be cloned. Thanks

    • +2

You will need cloning software and a SATA/USB Adapter e.g. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-5-USB-3-0-Notebook-SATA-Hard-Dr… - Some external 2.5" drives have removable adapters. Anyhow the idea is to plug in your new SSD to your PC USB using an adapter, run the cloning software that will clone a system image of your current C drive to the new SSD - then you swap the old drive out for the new and technically you boot up as if nothing had changed (except noticing the speed increase).

Not sure if the SanDisk includes cloning software - I know Samsung does.

      • Thanks. Appreciate it

        • You might even be able to clone using the internal cables (providing it's a desktop and not a laptop) e.g. spare outlets or unplug the DVD player

        • @debo: i dont have a desktop..only laptops…how about getting an external drive enclosure? would that work too?

        • +1

@stockastics: a drive enclosure will work fine providing you can open it up

      • Can I just copy all the folders across or does that not work hahaha

  • +2

Cool. I bit the bullet and purchased my first ssd.

  • Just want to get an idea of how useable storage space will be remaining after installing Windows 8 or 10 on it - ~210GB free space after formatting and installing Windows OS? My Asus laptop's mechanical HDD stopped working few months ago.

  • Which is the better drive out of this and the Kingston UV400 in 240Gb?

  • Price has gone up to $109

  • I think I (profanity) up.. I bought this for my PC but it's so small I don't think the case I've got can hold it properly :(
