it's cheap because it isn't gigabit

    • It's still the cheapest 24 port I've seen. Could still be useful. As an example, my house has 10+ network ports built into walls (2 ports on each, 20 total). I'd rather have a few off the router directly (@1gbps) then a second 10/100 switch so all the ports are live.

      • http://www.msy.com.au/nswonline/peripherals/5098-tp-link-tl-… , 24 gigabit ports for $119. Yes it's $95 more but that's probably little compared to the cost of the 20 devices you own or plan to buy, and money well spent to get gigabit. Gigabit isn't even that impressive these days. If you're streaming HD or 4K content to a TV or moving large files around I'd gladly pay $95 more to get 10x the speed.

Edit: I read your other post below, fair enough it you'll never need it.

  • It's just 10/100 :(. We need gigabit these days for network 🤘

    • False. Buy 24 NICs that support LAN teaming for MOOAAAR SPEEEEDS!!

      • How do I connect all the NICs to my computer?

        • External NICs via a USB hub of course! 😃

      • sounds awesome.
but 24 nic's to achieve gigabit speeds, why didnt i think of that

      • False. It's an unmanaged switch, so it would not support NIC Teaming. Also, NIC Teaming has it's limitations. e.g. even the better implementations such as LACP - a single TCP connection can only max out a single physical interface.

  • Nice. I was looking for a cheap switch with plenty of ports for LAN.

hopefully you won't be using it to perform data backups between devices…

      • The games we play are about 14 years old (BF1942 for example). The most file transferring I'd do would be copying the game files.

This would be used as a spare to whip out and plug into existing wall port for a LAN party. The switch for the ports in the wall are gigabit.

    • I'm sorry, no one else thinks this switch is usable so it's isn't you either!

  • Might be useful to someone who has wired their house. These days I have free ports on my 8 port Gb switch since so many computers use WiFi now

    • That's the exact reason I was searching for one. In total there's around 20 hardwired ports, 3 of which are wired directly to the router (1gbps). The fourth port will extend the network to this switch to keep the rest of the ports live at a reduced speed.

I wasn't able to give away 24 port Fast Ethernet switches the last time I tried.
Keep an eye on OCAU and you should be able to pick up one for free.

Does giveaway include postage though? :p

Got a feeling this is still cheaper with how bad postage prices are here…

Edit: don't get me wrong, I'm sure in Sydney/Melb you'd find a free one somewhere… For the rest of us the $24 is around the same as organising a free one to be posted+paying postage.

I got a Netgear GS116 Prosafe 16 Port Gigabit off OCAU for $20 lol.

        • $4 extra for 8 extra ports and life time warranty!

        • @dyl: gigabit vs fast ethernet though. haha

        • @lplau: whoops, didn't read 'gigabit'… That's quite a deal then!

  • I bet it comes with a BNC!
