  • great price it seems.

  • Considering buying a small speaker recently, how the sound quality compare to bose soundtouch 20?

    • +1

Bought one of these about 6 months ago from JB when they had them on special… was sick of having cheap ones (portable speakers) break on me… Very happy with the purchase so far. Sound is enjoyable, wont beat a good stereo, but beats the cheap speakers and some of the more expensive ones that I have heard.

  • Integrated Google cast… damn my wife is going to kill me.

Your wife doesn't like google cast?

    Great price.

I have family visiting from the USA next month and looked up the USD prices to see if it was worth having them bring it over for me.

287 on NewEgg & 299 on Best Buy.
AND I get an Oz plug to go with it.

    Thanks OP

  • When I go to purchase, after I enter my address details the 'payment options' link just takes me to the customer support page. Anyone know the solution to this?

  • Went to Perth store, the guy did not want to honor the online price saying this is online only..

    • I went to Parramatta Store, they are happy to match the price though.

  • If you haven't used your $25 voucher yet, that will bring this down to $224.

    • which $25 vouchers? and how do you get em?

  • I set this up for parents last night. Does a Bravia tv or the playstation 3 detect this? Their tv was searching for bluetooth devices but found nothing. I haven't tried PS3 yet but it would be simpler if they could do it via tv.

    • If you're going to sit this next to or in front of tv. Why not just plug it in using audio cables?

      • Because they might like the speaker placed somewhere else in the room, away from the tv. But yes, maybe wiring is only way. I will go and have a better look today.

Tested one of these next to Bose Soundlink Mini II which is my go to small BT speaker and it didn't pass the test IMO.

It is loud and has some good bass but the overall sound profile to me was just too muddy and not detailed. I like detailed top end, full mid range and strong defined bass.

    • It's not the best speaker in Sony's line up. I have the SRS-X77 and it's little brother SRS-X55. Despite being smaller and less powerful (on paper only - it packs plenty of punch), the X55 is the better speaker to my ears and sounds great, a touch warmer, and has fantastic detail, especially when I stream hi-res audio over LDAC with my Xperia Z5. The X77 goes louder but not necessarily better.

The X55 also sounded better (more balanced, defined and much more detailed) than both Bose Soundlink 3 and Soundlink Mini 2.

While I understand that the X77 has wireless connectivity, which the X55 doesn't have, I find it a bit surprising that a bigger speaker in the same lineup does not producer better sound.

      • Bigger speakers sounds worse - same with the Bose Soundlink - bigger speaker but more muddy and dull than its little brother.

I recently got the Harman Kardon Aura - awesome speaker and great designer looks. Best thing however is true 360 sound so every angle is the sweet spot!

        • Bigger speakers sounds worse

Actually the reverse is true. It's a matter of simple physics - all things being equal, a bigger speaker = bigger driver = more detail. The fact that it's not always the case could be explained by the fact that, with bigger speakers, manufactures may spend more money on the amplification components but skimp on the speaker drivers. It's just a guess though.

Best thing however is true 360 sound so every angle is the sweet spot!

I'm not actually a fan of omni-directional speakers. It's not how we naturally hear music - for example, if you see a live band, you hear the sound in stereo rather than from all directions. Besides, most of the sound from such a speaker is being 'wasted', as you're only located in one spot despite the sound being dispersed all over the place. A good use for a speaker like this that I can think of is sitting it in the middle of a table at a dinner party. I almost every other scenario I'd prefer good old stereo.
