Lenovo Y700 15.6" FHD Gaming Laptop (i5 6300HQ, 8GB DDR4, GeForce GTX 960M 4GB) $1346 [bonus $150 HN Gift Card] @ Harvey Norman

Lenovo Y700 15.6" FHD Gaming Laptop - i5 6300HQ - 8GB DDR4 RAM - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4GB GDDR5 - 1TB HDD - $1346 + BONUS $150 Harvey Norman Gift Card.

Harvey Norman currently has $370 off this laptop. Website also says Bonus $150 Harvey Norman Gift Card, but an * symbol next to it, so I am not too sure, as I can't find more info on this in the site.

I just came across this deal for the Lenovo Ideapad Y700 from Harvey Norman, who are selling the Lenovo Y700-15 for $1346. I just bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 (7559), also a budget gaming laptop for $1188 on Dell's EOFY sale (ended), as posted on this site. This to me seems like a better deal, and I am feeling extremely annoyed for not coming across this earlier.

It has the same specs as the Dell for the processor, and the GPU. But it has 8 GB DDR4 RAM (expandable to 16) as opposed to 8GB DDR3 of the Dell's. Furthermore after watching reviews on YouTube- keyboard, touchpad and JBL audio system gives this laptop a lead over the 7559. Worth looking into for only ~$150 extra (and you get a gift card of the same amount).

Says it comes with a bonus $150 HN gift card, so might be worth adding that to the OP. Great deal!

    • Thanks for pointing this out, I have changed it in the description. The website does say a Bonus $150 Harvey Norman Gift Card, but with an * symbol next to it, so I am not too sure, as I can't find more information about this on this on their website.

  • Looks good but
Is it an IPS FHD screen?
does it have an m.2 slot?

  • "…might be a better deal than the Lenovo Ideapad 700 even."
Aren't the Ideapad 700 and Y700 the same thing? My Y50 is identified as an Ideapad whenever I'm looking for drivers.

    • I am a bit confused about this myself. But I think they are different devices as Lenovo lists them differently on their website:

      http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/700-series/700-…

      http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y700-series/y70…

NOTE: URLs above are for the US store.

So it seems like it's Ideapad 700 vs Ideapad Y700.

So I just checked them out. The confusion appears to be Lenovo's own doing. I wonder what the 'Y' is supposed to symbolize. In the Y700's tech specs page, it lists the display as frameless. Nothing in the images or videos on YouTube prove that. Unless of course frameless means something else.
The design of the Y700 isn't very different from its predecessor's. The speakers on the Y50 are nice. The absence of media control keys is inexcusable. The touchpad leaves much to be desired… big time. I hope they fixed these issues in the Y700.

From what I gathered both the devices have similar form factor, the Ideapad 700 seems to be more of a general purpose laptop, maintaining a professional looks and costing less, while the Y700 is a budget gaming laptop with a better GPU (GTX 950 v GTX 960), red accents, JBL audio system with subwoofer and a much more bold keyboard design, like most gaming laptops. Both of them come packed with the same Skylake i5 quad core CPU though

"better aesthetics"? I know aesthetics are obviously subjective, but the Y700 is a heinous crime against my eyes.

I would pick the Dell because the battery is way bigger, it's significantly smaller in size, doesn't have a silly USB2 port.

However still a good price for the spec.

    • You are correct, it is subjective. I will update that on the post. I am stuck with the Dell regardless.

Maybe reword title ("bonus $150 giftcard), thought it was $150 postage or some crap at first. Great deal overall, even without the gift card!

    • Thanks. Updated. :)

  • I wonder if this will be eligible for further 10% gift card tomorrow. I've already bought the Dell but looking for one for my brother now.

  • did i miss the deal? it shows up as 1798$

    • Yes i think deal expired. Shame this looks like it got great specs.
