Cheap laptop with low end CPU. Celeron N3050 at 1.6GHz is probably only suitable to run office applications and browse websites. However you do have the whole laptop package here under $300, with 14" screen and Windows 10. Futu Online is selling these with different memory configurations. Everything else is the same. Use CLICKMORE to get 20% off discount.

  • Celeron N3050 1.6GHz
  • 500GB HDD
  • 14" 1366x768
  • Windows 10
  • 2x USB3, 1x USB2, VGA, HDMI
  • 2GB RAM $268, 4GB RAM $276, 8GB RAM $295.20

Cheapest on staticICE is $298 for 2GB RAM. I think there are 2x SODIMM slots however N3050 can only take maximum 8GB RAM. I don't think 2GB is much useful for Windows so it's probably better to go with 1x 4GB one for $276, and get an extra SIMM later if requires.

Haha reminds me of the Acer ES1-411-C1WD deals from last year.
If the HDD can be upgraded to SSD then this is definitely a great deal. Extra USB port compared to the Acer too!

Got this one the other day. Upgraded the RAM to 8 gig and put in a 240 gig ssd(thanks again ozbargain!). Runs office and interweb fine. Keyboard is a little ordinary obviously has no number pad, which is a pain for me. I just have it hooked up to a monitor and keyboard and mouse.

    • Tempting. How much did the ssd cost? Where you did buy it from?

    • How's the battery last in this setup. You get 6 hours or more. Thanks.

Did you just ask a question, answer it yourself, then thank yourself? I'm so confused lol

Now with question marks. Hows the battery last in this setup? You get 6 hours or more? Thanks Sarge2401

        • @rooon: keep it plugged in all day so not exactly sure

  • If it was the quad core version I probably would have bought one, but I'm probably asking for too much :)

My current, already severely under-powered laptop struggles with websites and multiple tabs and I'm sick of it!

    • How much RAM do you have? If only 2, 4 GB will work for many tabs unless media is present on several pages.

Ditch Windows and put Linux Mint on it. Then it will probably run fine.

Every Linux nerd ever says "just chuck Linux on there, bingo!" without mentioning the inevitable things that don't work, the workarounds that take hours of your day to find etc.

          :D

        • @Diji1: … uh, as opposed to all the things that break (the first being your digital identity and habitual metadata) when Windows Telemetry works its magic. Then Windows Update, or some third party software (such as, but not in particular the surveillance-ware that Lenovo was caught pre-installing), and/or licensing breaks, let alone Cortana relating everything you say and do every moment to everything they've already sucked in (and of course now, LinkedIn), etc. Ummm, yum!

        • @Diji1: Well if baldy is going to buy a new laptop then what has he got to lose? Might as well try out Linux on the old laptop first.
I'm far from a Linux nerd also, I hardly know anything about it.

        • @zerovelocity: Anyone able to use linux and remember all sudo -fml commands can counter all those problems on windows with lot less effort.

Linux is not virus free or hack proof but better than windows for both these issues. However the ease of use and drivers/software support makes windows more than worth it.

        • @dadeadman: Uh, can maybe, but will?

It is quite an effort to do. One slip, and its over, a la 'All your data belong to us'. Especially when they reset all your efforts at every update opportunity/excuse and install call-home malware at the factory.

Already have 4GB, and an SSD!

It's the crappy, crappy dual core AMD CPU. I'm all for the super low powered stuff when it comes to power consumption and price, but in theses cases a quad core would be the bare minimum for me. I have a j1900 Brix at home which is pretty nice.

Don't worry. I'm in the same boat. I have a lower model Core 2 Duo from 2008 as my primary computer. Combined with my crappy in-built graphics card any HD videos will bring it to its knees. It's OK for some programming though.

Since I would like to render animation as well any budget laptop messes with my mind. I kind of need a basic laptop for work but spend another $700 and I can get a desktop that can do some real "heavy work".

I haven't had major tab issues with any of the latest i-series dual cores but my standards are low.

        • Ebay is a good place for refurbished business laptops, e.g. HP Elitebooks, Acer Travelmates, etc. Some good deals to be had when you keep an eye out.

I bought an Acer Travelmate 14" with a 1st gen i3 for $185, will slip in a spare SSD when it arrives.

  • Can we replace the celeron with something like i5 to make it run faster?

    • +1

      the downside of laptops. no.

    • I doubt you can, though you could do with some Thinkpad models some years ago.

  • One more upgrade option with fhd screen would be nice. I think 4gb is sweet spot with this cpu but 8gb for $20 more.. its great deal.

Excellent deal, but already have 3 laptops. What am I going to do with the 4th? Must resist…

    • +2

Use it to recharge the hundreds of eneloops you have.

      • I have none.

Shame about the screen, that resolution looks crap on my current cheapo 12" laptop, otherwise doesn't seem too bad at all.

    • +2

My 13" laptop has the full HD resolution and I have to zoom in every time since the words are too small to read in many cases.

      • +1

        Change your text size?

      • Upgrade the laptop to Windows 10 and change the display scaling to 200%

  • +1

I get turned off as soon as I hear the word 'Celeron'. LOL

  • +1

The processor is up to 2.16ghz. I have pretty much the equivalent HP laptop with 4gb, and it definitely seems faster than I expected. Perfectly adequate for office, browsing, movies, YouTube.
