Headphones on Amazon UK Due to GBP Fall - Eg. Sennheiser HD558 £105.35 (~AU $200)

130

With the Brexit referendum smashing the UK pound vs the Australian Dollar yesterday (fell by ~10%) it's time to start looking for bargains on Amazon UK.

Quidco currently has 5% cashback for Amazon UK Musical instruments - so here are some headphones within the DJ headphones category.

The prices include shipping and reflect the 20% Value Added Tax (VAT) being removed in checkout.

If you don't use the Amazon currency converter (e.g. use a Coles reloadable mastercard) you might save even more. I have shown the xe.com rate for comparison.

  • Australian stock HD600s are available for $325 with free Aus shipping at Addicted to Audio, might want to take that one off the list.

    • OK done.

      • Hd650s are also 425 from them also. The 5% extra may be enough for some to support an aussie b&m store.

  • The best reason for Brexit, revealed.

  • Just headphones?

    • Only categories on quidco for Amazon UK at the moment are watches, beauty sales and musical instruments (pro headphones is a sub category) - all 5%

Mics and similar stuff probably qualify too.

    no qc35's :(

  • The GBP/AUD Brexit devaluation didn't get anywhere near 10%.

    • Mid may has gone from ~2.05 to 1.8. link

1.96 to 1.8 was what it fell after they started counting.

May not be all as a direct result of brexit - but for purposes of this deal is close enough.

      • Late April the AUD/GBP currency rate was almost exactly as it is today. So what? The knee jerk Brexit reaction has so far resulted in less than half your claimed 10% change. I'm actually holding out for a significantly bigger change (10%+) so I can send some funds to the UK.

        • 0.16 fall is 8.9%. Yes it bumped since, and yes it will probably be lower in the long run.. hence worth paying more attention.

Amazon.co.uk used to be uniformly bad (their shipping rates are more expensive) - but now it depends very much on the specific deals/cashback (for me anyway). I think it's worth pointing that out.

        • @gringo: The charts don't show anything like an 8.9% change so your converter was presumably giving you a poor market rate.

        • @gringo: So you're hanging your hat on currency flucs since the end of May? As I said if you look at the 3 month chart you'll see large variations, including an April price where it was equivalent to the current quote. Since June 20 it has appreciated 6.87% on average. Since the vote about half that. The Euro/GBP chart is almost a replica of the AUD/GBP chart. Even the USD/GBP has settled.

        • @Possumbly:

Not hanging my hat on anything. Just pointing out what I said was true. GBPAUD is equal to the best value it has been since Jan 2015.

          Anyway, buy or do not.

        • @gringo: "smashing the UK pound vs the Australian Dollar yesterday (fell by ~10%)".

Yes if you take the view that rounding up by 50% is reasonable then what you said is true.

        • @Possumbly:

8.9% was the immediate fall.. I've given you the graph - It's simple maths. It's 8.4% now.

Not sure why I'm replying as you are just trolling now. Anyway I'm done with this - hope you got some value out of it.

        • @gringo: I've seen the detailed graphs pal and they were, as I said, nowhere near 8.9% let alone your claimed ~10%. I'm replying because you continue to sprout nonsense but I agree enough is enough.

not that much difference from last month when it went down a bit, where it lost most was with the US.

    • OK but if you wanted to buy headphones today (instead of the past), they are are fairly good prices yeah?

And you now get 5% cashback (when did you last see 5% CB on any electronic items at amazon?). Should it track - that's a further $20 off $400 phones.

I've never owned a pair of sennheiser Earphones. I've only ever had sony are these the go or the Bose ones on sale?

    • Really should go try a range out then. Depends what you like.

Most will agree that the sound quality is much better on say the HD600 than Bose or a lot of other headphones for that matter.

Edit: but you also need an amp for the HD600.

      • I'd buy the hd650 if I'm going to spend that much might as well go hard, ehere can I get an amp.

        • Haha. I'd go listen to both of them. The 650 has a deeper and maybe more present bass. You can't go wrong with either.

The amp is another story. You can probs do the amp from Amazon UK as well coz its still musical instruments. And again, that can change the sound. I've listened to both but I don't own it so I never paid much attention to the amps used. So maybe just google and check headfi and reddit
