Original LIFX Wi-Fi LED Smart Bulb 50% with Coupon US$30 ~AU$39.82

1790
RMN50

I love my LIFX bulb because you don't need a bridge like the Philips HUE.

They sell these for $90 something at Harvey Norman (although they are 2 for $98 atm) and now it's 50% off the LIFX website. I paid the $US30 on via PayPal and it charged me $39.82 to my CommBank credit card.

The 800 is shades of white only (no colours).

Damn. I was after the 50 shades of grey

      • LiFX are currently offering discounts on the Color 1000 if you purchase more than 1.

        2 Bulbs US $99.98 - Save US $20
        4 Bulbs US $189.96 - Save US $50
        6 Bulbs US $284.94 - Save US $75

… and combine this with the coupon: save102016 and you will get a further 10% discount.

        Shipping is also free.

  • Discount doesnt apply on checkout?! what am i doing wrong?
    Says
Your cart does not meet the requirements for the RMN50 discount code.
Does it only work with particular types?

    • make sure you are selecting the original…

  • should be great with my https://home-assistant.io/

I was staring at the checkout screen for good 5-10 minutes and finally pulled the trigger. This is great as it doesnt require separate hub to operate.

    sigh but yay!

:) Looks like you can also use code "ORIGINALE27" for a penny or two cheaper, for those penny pinchers out there.

Or if you want a non original you can use code "RMN10", for 10% off. If you are ok with white and a slightly lower brigtness, the white 800 works out cheaper.

    • 59.98 for 2, cheers.

When I woke up this morning, I had no idea these existed. I've just bought one and I want it to arrive more than anything in my entire life. Thank you OP for completing my existence

    • Yeah i found these on kickstarter about 3 years ago, didnt bite the bullet then, as $100 a globe seemed outrageous. When the campaign ended, i knew at that point i missed out and really wished i'd bought, but it was too late

They took about 18months or so, then one day i saw them in harvey norman. Bought 4. Love them - except they don't fit in all standard light fittings (like the glass dome ceiling lights), had to buy some new, larger ones.

      Anyway, you won't be disappointed.

      • Do you mean the ceiling lights where the bulb is screwed in horizontally to the ceiling?
I have that kind of fitting and I'm worried if it'll fit or not seeing as though a few people have mentioned that these bulbs are large.

Trying to decide if I should take the plunge or not.

        • Yeah, the bulbs are large, those which screw horizontally into the light fitting on the ceiling, you'd want to make sure theres plenty of space there to fit a large globe - otherwise you might be disappointed. we were, hence getting new light fittings.

Lights are awesome, worth changing over your fittings for the lights :)

  • For some reason the discount isn't working for me. Trying on original. I enter the code and hit apply, the page refreshes, but no discount applies.

EDIT: Weirdly, it wouldn't work for me on my internet browsers on my PC, but worked fine on my phone. Thanks OP!

    • Try this one? "ORIGINALE27"

Perhaps the code has other restrictions

      • All good, thanks mate, I just updated my comment. For some reason wouldn't work for me on PC but was fine when I did it from my phone.

  • Cheers for this! Been looking for lights to connect to my remote. The Philips ones are way too expensive.

Awesome, been wanting one of these for ages. Thanks!

  • Want to get gunmetal grey but the AU/NZ version is sold out.

anyone know the difference between the E27 Edison Screw (AU/NZ version) and the E27 Edison Screw? Arent they the same?

    • +1

Dont know the diff, unless the non AU/NZ is 110v only, but I thought they were all universal voltage. If so, then they are the same thing.

I have 3 grey, and 1 white. When they are fitted into recessed downlight sockets, you really cant tell the difference in case colour.

      • thanks for that - ill just get the white in case there is a diff between the AU/NZ version even though I doubt there would be

The LIFX Original and LIFX Color 650 both have a universal power supply so will work between 110-240V ranges.

The White 800 comes in specific voltage types, so you must ensure you purchase the correct type suitable to the country in which the light will be used.

        The White 800 comes in:

        E26 Edison Screw - Low voltage: 100-110V
        E27 Edison Screw - High voltage: 220-240V
        B22 Bayonet Cap - High voltage: 220-240V

Added to Cart filled in details and then i realized i really dont need these LOL …. thank god .. saved $160

    • +3

I didn't think I needed them either. And then I got some and OMG they're awesome.

      • +1

        I can't stop buying them. Help! ;)

        • +1

Dude, I got home with 2 I got from Harvey Norman, tested them out and immediately jumped online to order another 2. Phenomenal waste of money, but they're so awesome. They work over the cloud too so I turned mine on from inside the car down the road.

You can even use the Google app to turn them on/off!

Now I'm looking into the Samsung SmartThings to automate the lights when I walk through the house. SEND HELP! :P

        • @cnut: Haha. I think this will be me too. I just ordered two from Harvey Norman. I can see it being the beginning of an expensive affair with 'home automation gadgets'.

        • @t3chshopper: Good luck!

I'm still digging mine. Had a nap and set mine to wake me up in 30m which it did. :D

        • @cnut: Love it!

        • @t3chshopper: My second batch arrived from LIFX - pretty crap boxing. They had barely any padding and would have smashed around non stop in transit, but hopefully they're OK.

          How are yours going?

        • @cnut: That's disappointing to hear. My order from LIFX hasn't arrived yet.

I'm LOVING the ones I've got (from Harvey Norman). So much so that I ordered another 7(!) from LIFX. :)

I'm already considering ways to add more smarts to them. Either a Smart things hub when it's released here, or I just may find a use for that Raspberry Pi sitting in a draw after all!

        • @t3chshopper: Whoa! 7!!!

Then again I have 4 and I'm very, very tempted to get another 2 at least.

Keen on SmartThings too, but no official release in Australia is there? Might import one but I heard something about the wireless bands not being compliant here?

  • Looks to be done and dusted, code doesn't work..

    • I just used the code ORIGINALE27 and it worked

      • With which version..

Just tried the code you suggested above also without success.

        • I ordered the original earlier - didn't try the OP code but used the other code and it worked fine

Looks like I snuck in just in time if its no longer working

        • @mrshorty: Thanks, may I ask how much it came to for two (2)?

        • @cristobaljames:

I only ordered one and it came out to 29.99 USD

  • +1

I Have bought 6 of these and love them.

I set it up with tasker, so the light reacts to certain events (messages, phone ringing)
I have set up NFC tags around the house to instantly go to colour scene
Also i have played with MAxlifx, so globes interact with the colours on you montior/HTPC (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hGJx0OQQco)

    • +1

Yeah Ive been meaning to make the lounge lights fade on at 50% when I pause KODI, and them fade off when media playback resumes..

Good idea with the NFC tags.

  • Anyway of controlling these with an xbox one, using kinect voice commands?

  • +2

love this tread, never heard about these nice smart home gadgets before!

  • +1

Yo, don't forget Officeworks price match. $93.10 with Harvey Norman. Thus $46.55 a bulb.

Looks like it's online only orders for Officeworks. :(

  • +2

I wonder how these bulbs would go in the Ikea pendant lamp, http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/60311495/

A normal led bulb is a shape of a normal bulb so it might have the ability to shine behind it but the Lifx only really faces forward and sides.

    • These have a 130" angle apparently. So relatively narrow. Would look sick in that lamp still!

  • These don't have Homekit support, right?

Won't buy any smart bulbs without Homekit.

    • I don't think they do. Not yet at least though you'd think it's a matter of a firmware upgrade for the devs to support it?

If you don't have other gadgets around the house for home automation, does Homekit support matter?

      • It kinda does, really. HomeKit is being expanded in iOS 10 with a dedicated app and a Control Center panel. I also want as much stuff compatible with Siri as possible.

Shame. Would've jumped on this if they had Homekit.

        • Yeah that would be cool actually. Control the light via Siri.

I just saw this on the Lifx website: https://support.lifx.com/hc/en-us/articles/202248504-Apple-H… (from 2 days ago)

I'm pretty confident they will provide support/integration given their competitors do and the framework is now available.

Then there's also this which you may be able to already use:

          https://github.com/brutella/hc

        • @cnut: Thanks for replying. That bridge is interesting, but it's not like I have a server at home running 24/7, and that statement is not a guarantee, so I'll definitely be waiting for official support.

        • @MrMcHairyHead: Yeah and I just noticed they apparently made the same statement 6 months ago. :(

        • @cnut: Yeah, they worded that one as if Homekit had just been announced too. In reality it's existed for two years, the only new announcement last week was that there's a dedicated app now. They haven't got a clue. I'm steering clear.

May we both find homekit bulbs cheaper than Philips Hue! (Or whatever Android has)

Harvey Norman 2 for $98 is your next best bet.

  • +3

As a true OzBargainer, I am actually quite concerned about the standby power consumption:

    https://support.lifx.com/hc/en-us/articles/202298574-How-muc…

    • +1

I plan to switch mine off on the wall when not in regular use. Would that harm them at all?

      • +1

That's what I do, mainly because it's far easier than opening the app to turn it off.
The only one I always leave with power is the outside one, because I schedule it to turn on and off.

  • $65 Each Delivered on Ebay for those who only want 1 seems cheaper than Harvey Norman.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LIFX-Original-A21-Wi-Fi-Smart-LED…

  • Hmmmm….. was going to get a couple but read this on their site:

"LIFX® Bulbs are not designed for use in:

Enclosed fixtures that limit the flow of air "

That kills using them in a standard opaque 'fish bowl' ceiling fixture like I have. The magic wouldn't be the same without a cover over them looking like an ordinary light.

    • +1

I've got 4 of them in fish bowls. Apart from annoying the fish, they work well.

I've got similar fixtures to you I believe, hasn't seemed to cause a problem, at least my house hasn't burnt down yet, but I've only had them for a couple of months.

  • +1

Bayonet (surely what most Australians want anyway?) in both colours and Edison Screw E27 Black are still in stock.

    • As a general rule I think older houses (20+ years old) tend to use bayonet. Newer houses (5 to 20 years old) tend to use E27.
Newer houses (< 5 yrs) tend to use halogen or now LED downlights.

      • Depends on the builder I would say. My house is 7yo and uses bayonets.

        • We see 50/50 Bayonet and screw for lamps in AU.
And lots of requests for down lights.

  • +5

Hey everyone!! I work at LIFX. We still have stock of:

Gun Metal Grey E27 Screw and B22 Bayonet
    Pearl White B22 Bayonets.

Sold out of the: E26 USA Screw Bulbs and E27 Pearl White.

    Cheers,
    David K

Just ordered a pair of Gun Metal Grey E27 Screw. I look forward to trying them out.

      • Nice!!! I am sure you'll love them.

        • How long will it take to get to Sydney?

        • +1

@ocoolio: About a week as stock ships from HK

        • Just to confirm - these are the 'white-only' products? They offer different shades / warmths of while, but don't throw off colours?

          Ta.

        • @fookos: All these "original" bulbs are colour. Although you can use them as plain white if you wish.

        • @systmworks: that's correct the originals do all colours as well as warm to cool whites

    • Hi Rep,
In regards to warranty, is there any difference between buying directly on lifx.com versus from harvey norman/officeworks.

      Thanks

      • +1

No we provide a 2 year manufacturer warranty for all sales channels as long as you have a receipt.

    • Hi David,

Wondering if you could help me. I forgot to put the coupon code in and paid the full USD$119.98 for 2x Original Gun Metal Grey Bulbs.

Wanting to cancel my order (and reorder with the coupon) or get a partial refund of the coupon value if possible. I've sent an email last night to [email protected] (ticket #175940) and also [email protected] but no response yet. Wanted to sort this out before the items shipped.
      Order number: #LIFX20175

I have messaging turned on if you can PM me back. Thanks!

      • +2

All sorted. A+ for customer service.

  • Which ones are the new ones that use less power?

Also will they slow down my wifi if i get a bunch of them?

    • The Color 1000 uses 11W at full brightness vs The Original that uses 17W. Still better than an equivalent 75W incandescent.

      • So only the old ones are on sale?

        • Yes - see the reps post a few down from this one.

  • Just tried to order with RMN50 and it said "Your cart does not meet the requirements for the RMN50 discount code"

    • Same result here. Has the coupon expired?

Rep - can you also note how this is shipped? Once in Australia, will orders be delivered by Australia Post or Startrack? Trying to determine whether to post to my Parcel Locker or not.

If it's another courier I'll have to ship to elsewhere.

      Thanks.

      • +1

We post via HK Post who then pass to Australia Post once in Australia

    • make sure you have Original bulbs in the cart and that code should work.

      http://www.lifx.com/products/the-original

      • Hi kavalier27

Can these be mounted in the roof somehow like LED downlights?

        Thanks

        • i use a open recessed housing so they sit flush and allow ventilation

        • @Skitzout:

Thanks. Have you got a link to the type you use?

        • They are more light a traditional bulb. They screw into an outlet.

      • when is the GU10 back in stock or improved. i need more

        • The original GU10 is discontinued according to LIFX.

        • @Jad: hoping we get to have a new model for the AU market. Hit up Harvey Norman to order you some in as they have access to some stock .

        • @kavalier27: approx how far away so i can weigh up searching for the GU10 or waiting for a new improved/updated model soon to arrive on the market

  • Couldn't resist. Had to buy one.

  • -2

$40 for a light bulb? Since when is this a bargain?

    • +2

      Since the 8GB iPhone 4.

  • Was trying to order one in e27 but it only lets me add them in multiples of two and if I remove one it says out of stock >_<

    • You'll have to buy the grey one if you want a screw…

Alternatively, pick up the bayonet (E22) if you're keen on white. The others are out of stock.

      • The grey one looks black in the photos. Is that correct? I just want it to look like a normal bulb.

        • More a gun metal grey. They actually look pretty cool. But you cant see it when the light is on as the bulb is so bright.

  • How many technical support consultants does it take to turn on a light bulb?

    • Too many ;p

  • got one, looks cool
