Original LIFX Wi-Fi LED Smart Bulb 50% with Coupon US$30 ~AU$39.82

1790
RMN50

I love my LIFX bulb because you don't need a bridge like the Philips HUE.

They sell these for $90 something at Harvey Norman (although they are 2 for $98 atm) and now it's 50% off the LIFX website. I paid the $US30 on via PayPal and it charged me $39.82 to my CommBank credit card.

  • Anyone know how long the delivery time is to Melbourne?

  • Bought 4 of these.. now time to think what to do with them… :)

  • Finally caved and bought two :)

By the way, for those with a Harmony hub based remote, you can also control these lights using the remote or app or make part of an activity.

  • I bought two too :)

  • So it looks the HN bulbs are the original models too.

  • Bought two lamps.
Been using WeMo switches for years, hoping these will be an improvement.

  • Dam out of stock. Any idea of when you'll have more?

    • +1

which version you after? - E27 and B22 are both still in stock. No E26 or E27 Whites left

      • E27 in white. I have 2 bedside lamps that take B22 so i'll try these out. I'm very keen on a 6 pack of E27 in white

        • Yeah all sold out if the E27 Whites in Syd and HK.

        • @kavalier27: Any B22 in stock?

      • What ever happened to the down light versions of these?

  • Do you think one of these will be enough for a bedroom? I currently use a 40 watt CFL and it's a little dim. But I think they're pretty cheap globes so they were never great to begin with.

    Edit: Room is about 3 x 4m

    • +1

Should be enough. The bulb is over 1000 lumens which is like an old 75W incandescent bulb.

Will depend on the lamp fixture but will be heaps better than what you have now.

      • Thanks!

  • Silly question, can smartphone usually connect to two WiFi networks simultaneously? House WiFi + Globe Wifi or do i need to disconnect from one to access the other? Thanks.

    • +2

There isn't two networks - the globes connect to your home wifi network and you control them over that.

  • Does anyone have a recommendation for a wall light switch to control these wifi bulbs? Something cheaper than the Belkin WeMo light switch?

Trying to look on ebay and it seems that they are mostly ones that you use your phone/computer to control the light switch. I just want a light switch that will turn on the wifi bulb (i.e. I don't want to bother cutting into my wall and install wiring).

    • A standard light switch will work?

I dont understand what you want tbh.

      • A wireless light switch that is powered by a battery that can turn on/off this light bulb over wifi.

        • Leave the light switch on and turn the light on/off with the LIFX app over WiFi?

        • @Stix:

Nah, i want to have it work like a normal fitting

        • @kickling: why can't you just use your light switch? How are you powering? The original light would have a wall switch?

        • @poop:

          Oh, i guess I wasn't clear.

Double brick house, want to install new light switches in a new place. Do not want to cut brick walls (chase). Want to delete old light switches.

Hence seeking a wifi light switch that is battery operated. No wiring required.

        • @kickling: Cheap phone stuck onto wall
Honestly I think you're going to run into problems there. These bulbs have some form of authentication scheme, so its not as simple as just sending a static wifi broadcast.

        • @outlander: Yeah, i think without going a proper home automation product, I will be stuck for choice.

        • They advertise these on the LifX site .. so I assume they work well. But not cheap.
          http://www.lifx.com/pages/flic

    • I think what you are after is something like the Hue Tap? I'm not sure there is anything equivalent for LIFX… someone correct me if this is not the case!

      • Yes, exactly like that, and the LIFX website advertises a FLIC button. But I was hoping there would be a cheaper brand, and also perhaps something that looks like a normal wall light switch just with the wifi button mech.

  • Just bought 4! Looking forward to them!

  • Looks like the white Edison Screw are out of stock.

    • Two days ago!

  • Got confirmation that mine is underway. possibly coming from Sydney warehouse since the estimate delivery date is between June 29, 2016 - July 6, 2016.
    cant wait……..
but the tracking number not yet registered by AusPost. SXBXXXXXX

    • Oh, no - I ordered before you and you got it shipped before me :P

      • i hope i get them sometime this week. yay!
looking forward to integrate it with my home-assistant

    • Yeah, I've been frantically F5ing the tracking number at AusPost. Current estimation is for Monday delivery, but I'm holding out for a Fri delivery. Have some family visiting this weekend, these would be a neat party trick to show 'em.

      • got mine delivered to my parcel locker, ready to collect. cant wait!!! YAY!

        • Woah, awesome. Mine is still in transit from Chullora processing facility. Really hoping for an update to 'onboard for delivery' tomorrow!

      • Interesting, mine is coming from HK via DHL.

Ordered wednesday, got shipped on friday with estimated delivery monday. Damn that postage must be expensive.

        • I suspect the gun metal grey is from HK. Mine is coming from there too.

Ordered Tuesday 28th, estimated delivery Tuesday 5th for me :(

        • @unco: Don't think so, I ordered orginal in white (AUS and NZ version) and it is also coming from HK. Onboard with the driver atm.

        • @Shibuya: Ah fair enough, maybe just clearing all their warehouses of the originals then.

        • Mine is coming from HK via Hong Kong Int'l Registered Mail.
Ordered Monday, shipped Thursday, ETA 12th July :(
I wanted it to play with sooner than that!

        • On board for delivery today! Getting excited.

  • Mine just arrived in regional QLD, 11/10 would compulsive purchase again!

    • +1

i agree. even my wife was more excited than me. i can buy few more. ole!

  • +1

Shoutout to OP! Just got mine yesterday from HN and it's great! I'm a photographer, so having total control over white balance and brightness of my desk lighting is amazing :)

    • one of the reason i got this light as well!!!

    • What colour would you set it to?

      • i found the "whites" in the ios app to be slightly too purple-ish. i bought a 3rd party app called lifxstyle for mac to give finer control over the exact tint. there would be other apps like that for windows i'm sure. once you have the light how you like it, you can then use the lifx smartphone app to save that setting as a preset so you don't have to use your computer every time. basically trial and error, you'll probably want to revise it, maybe have different settings depending on natural light in the room at different times of day. hope that helps, kinda went on a bit of a rant haha..

  • Received mine yesterday. Can't wait to try it! Thanks OP and LIFX!

  • must resist

  • +1

I find it odd these are getting so much love when they have been on many times before for similar prices and recived 1/10th the votes.

  • Got my tracking number, mine is coming from HK with DHL.

Does anyone know any MR16 smart bulbs in the making or anything?

  • Look like the minimum purchase is 2 bulbs now to use the code

  • Damn DHL. I chose to have it shipped to work as someone's there during office hours. What does DHL do? Attempts delivery before office hours. I've rescheduled and authorise it to be left. Now they'll probably attempt next delivery after everyone has left. haha.

    • +1

Well I take back what I said. Bravo DHL! They came back!

      • Well I like these, I'd bought a couple of E27's to use in lamps. So I've just ordered a couple more B22's to use in room lights.

  • Arrived today, works flawlessly*. Tempted to go back and order a bunch more.

*Couldn't get the bulbs to sync via app on android, but worked immediately and faultlessly via iPad. App and bulbs now work fine on android.

    • Same here. Want to buy more!

  • I received my globes today however I took them out of the light socket and the side of the globes are extremely hot after being on for about 30mins of testing and playing around with them on the app.
Is this normal and anyone else having same issues?

Seems normal but I was hoping they wouldn't get too hot as I wanted to use one on a desk, not in a lamp just on its own with a power supply.

    • I checked our three and yeah, they're warm. But not warmer than any other led bulb I've played with I'd have thought.

  • +1

Best purchase ever. Hooked it with my homeassistant and one of the rule i set is to dim the light when playing a movie and to un-dim the light when a movie is being paused. Too damn cool.

    • Your user name is making me hungry. Best noodle evar

      • i love them too…hence the name :)

    • Sounds good. I loved my two so much that I bought another 7! I'm keen now to try out HomeAssistant on a Raspberry Pi and see what I can get them to do. :)

      • it made my life a little easier honestly. not having to worry of small repetitive task.
simple rule that you can easily set up, to turn on lights when the sun goes down and to turn it off when it goes up.

  • My order hasn't shipped yet. Ordered Wednesday - anyone else?

    • I also ordered on wednesday. Got delivered to Perth today.

  • No more pearl white E27?

  • Anyone know if this can be used on a personal hotspot if I don't have wifi at home?

  • Received mine a little while ago, finally got around to trying it. As mentioned I went from a 40 watt CFL to this. The output does not seem to be very different. Still find my room is a bit dim even at 100%, and I'm not sure I can get it to a white light that is comfortable on the eyes. I have a pendant light so it's hanging down and the bulb is exposed - maybe that's part of the issue?.

I'll try getting a desk lamp to use my second lifx bulb with this - hopefully that will do the trick. The schedules and programs work great! However I can't get it to work with "ok google" anyone had luck?

    • No luck with OK Google here either. I didn't stick with it as it's now how I'd use it. I did get it to work with IFTTT though. Again, I don't really need IFTTT, as the built-in scheduler, and Android widgets work amazingly.

      • Yeah the timer is great! Does anyone else notice that at about 70 to 100 % there isn't much difference in brightness.. below 70 is really starts to dim but I almost think once I hit 70 or 75 there's no more increase.

    • "ok google" works intermittently. 70% of the time it registers "turn off my lights" and "turn off my life"….. and sometimes when it does register "turn off my lights", it does a google search rather than carry out the action in LIFX. Other times, it clearly registers "turn OFF my lights", but repeats the action back as "turn ON my lights"…. very very buggy.

      • I think the Google app functionality may only work properly from android devices. Doesn't work on my iPhone.

  • Works like a charm!

  • Bought 12 last week. Love them. Might buy 6 more in grey.

    • I've now bought 9. If every light fitting in the house would take them, I'd be buying more!

      • You can get fitting adapters to convert to E27, but obviously it makes the whole bulb protrude a bit more.

        • Yeah, thanks. It's more a case of large feature lights with special globes. I'd happily have every light in my house be one of these if that were do-able.

  • Got mine integrated with my Logitech Harmony Smart Hub - and added it to some activities. Light will only come on after sunset though - nice option.

Can control it via the Harmony App but I also wanted to map a button on the Logitech smart remote (physical remote with button) but doesn't seem to be possible despite being possible for any other feature of any device registered with my harmony setup.

Anyone know if this can be done? If the app can do it so should the remote as the remote uses RF to tell the hub to send a wifi signal to the lights.

    • I'm not sure, I'll have a look tonight.

I've got an app on my Pebble watch that works well, LIFxPebble. Can toggle groups, individuals, change colour, etc. Quicker than opening apps on the phone.

I'm going to look into HomeAssistant too.

      • Thanks mate. I've got the pebble up and running also but keen to have a hard button to make on and off easy for the rest of the fam without having to reach for an iPhone or tablet.

        On a side note:

I'm using IFTTT to turn on he lights as I drive into the driveway. Works great but doesn't seem to have capacity to set to only activate the rule after sunset or a particular time of day. Hence - they came on in daylight!

There seems to be some other services to try that can sit a layer above IFTTT to look at sunset (for example) and if that rule is met it then activates the IFTTT service to complete its task.

        • I was just trying to figure out how to get the lights to turn on only when I arrive home after dark too.

What other service are you looking at if you don't mind me asking.

        • @unco:

I haven't tried it yet but I read about this in a Reddit thread - jump online at:

          apilio.io

If you give it a crack before I do report back :)

      • +1

I've in the process of loading HomeAssistant to a RaspberryPi. I've just taken delivery of a few Z-wave devices, and just today, 7 more LIFX bulbs. All because I had such an awesome experience with my first two LIFX bulbs with this deal! :)

  • Have been using Philips Hue for some time and been really happy with them, but for this price i'll give these ones a go to compare.

    • I received these the other day and must say, these are quite impressive. They feel really well built and high quality just like the Philips Hue bulbs, and it seems the colours may even be a slight bit more intense than the Hue, and they can do proper Greens unlike Hue A19's. Overall, great quality, great value and i'll be getting more of these!

  • I've got a couple more arriving this week - the new ones (Colour 1000) as I didn't want graphite colour given they're both going into white fittings (and will be visible when off).

  • I got my 2 the other day - super fast postage.

So far, I'm a big fan! I'm loving the fade on wake up alarm, making it a tad easier to get up in the morning.

  • LiFX are currently offering discounts on the Color 1000 if you purchase more than 1.

    2 Bulbs US $99.98 - Save US $20
    4 Bulbs US $189.96 - Save US $50
    6 Bulbs US $284.94 - Save US $75

… and combine this with the coupon: save102016 and you will get a further 10% discount.

    Shipping is also free.

    • thanks for this was just looking at buying a few. Hmmm just thinking now about if the costs are worth the upgrade!

  • I just received a B22 original and my first impression is WOW. The quality of light feels so much better than my original milight and the app is also very slick.

The best feature for me though is that the light will turn on (and remember your last setting I think) if you switch the main power switch off and on again. One of my pet peeves of the milight.
