  • Still too expensive for me =(

  • On mobile right now so can't get the link to work but the Dell website has the exact same model on sale for $100 cheaper

    • +1

There is no exact same model from what I can see? You either have a choice of 8GB of ram, or 32GB on the Dell website (as opposed to 16GB on this one).

None of them include the 3GB 970m, they all only have the 2GB 965m (what the exact performance difference is between the mobile GPU's I don't really know).

To upgrade the 8GB one (closest in price to this one at $2,198.99) is a $177.10 upgrade to go from 8GB to 16GB (ouch). So unless you're looking at a different page to me on the Dell website, this seems to be a different model to the ones on the Dell website.

      • You are correct, I assumed the $2198 one was the same at first glance.

  • yeah. that's not cheap.

  • No way Jose

Can you share a link of Asus ROG 970M with similar-ish specs?

        • +3

As expected Ozbargain is full of fanboys/girls

And self righteous people who feel they can mock people for their choices in consumer electronics it appears.

Sure Alienware is overpriced, but you can make that point and give examples without putting them down.

You are a total idiot. Most of the links you shared is priced at USD which is same or more as the JB hifi advertised price. Also, there is no way to compare Alienware next day warranty with Asus crap warranty. If you are looking for cheap stuff then your best option is Metabox.

        • @Bnjam3:

Yeah get them for the right price and the very minor premium is so worth it. I actually couldn't get my Alienware specs anywhere cheaper when I got it off the outlet store.

And I did have to utilise the warranty at one point, which I must say was (profanity) amazing. Next day done and dusted, parts express posted out overnight to the tech who home visit installed them. Also worth mentioning it was OUTSIDE the initial next day warranty period and they still gave me the next day service rather than sending it away.

Then there's the cooling system and general sturdiness. Dunno how they are now, but I had a Metabox sitting next to my laptop at work and it wasn't even in the same ballpark. Heat dissipation was not even close, chassis was weak, and sound quality was WOEFUL.

FWIW: I don't own the laptop anymore, but I'd definitely buy one again. Especially when you can get them for the same price as the cheaper alternatives (so long as you're willing to wait). Don't be a moron and compare full price RRP on the website, we all know that doesn't mean jack.

        • @Yekul: On last February i bought alienware 15 with core i7 4720hq and gtx 970m and 128gb ssd + 1tb hdd for under $1400 which was extremely cheap considering the specs. Bought it refurbished from dell outlet as they were clearing out the r1 model. I have heard many horrible stories about MSI and Asus RMA process, some even says it can take up to a whole month :)

Here is my code if anyone is interested in buying:

  • My code: 92SSSR5H41X52X

EDIT: didn't read OP, codes aren't unique

If they put the 970 in the 13 inch i would be so happy

    • yeah same. got a 13 atm, want a bit more grunt though. Have considered the 15, but gonna wait and see what happens with the 1070m/1080m.

  • Wow cheaper than XPS15

  • This page offer it for $1599us approx $2152aud plus another $100 off with 100OFF999 code http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-15-r2/pd?~ck=mn

      • %10 GST= $200++. Also, Dell USA will not ship to Australia.
  • I don't think this is cheap but would still love to own one. Hopefully 9series laptops will start coming down in price

  • $2300 is out of my budget. I bought bare-bone MSI gaming laptop 5 years ago for $900 which it still runs great but just noisy fan that annoys me. I always wanted to own an Alienware. If it's $2000 then i will definitely take it . Do you think JBHIFI sales person woulddiscount further to 20000?

    • Yes, just ask. JB sales ppl are very susceptible to jedi mind tricks, mainly because of all the ink and metal parts in their face and upper body.

    • Do you think JBHIFI sales person woulddiscount further to 20000?

Hmm that may be a hard sell, but offer them the $20,000.. you never know they may just do you a favour and take it ;)
