Dreamliner Flights to Europe from ~$400 One-Way from MEL with Jetstar and Norwegian in November

320

So you can fly Jetstar direct to Bangkok (BKK) for $199, or $179 via Singapore thanks to this deal from samehada.

And then on limited dates in October and November you can get a cheap fare on Norwegian from BKK to Oslo (141.6 EUR), Copenhagen (162.5 EUR) or Stockholm (147.7 EUR).

So for example you can fly MEL to BKK on 9th November for $186.46. Then on the 10th fly to Oslo for $214 = $400 total.

You will need to pay extra for checked luggage of course.

The flights from MEL and from BKK are on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner which has bigger windows, less cabin noise and better cabin air pressure and humidity.

Don't have the guts to fly with a Dreamliner.

    • Would you prefer an A330?

        Why do you ask?

The only thing I don't like about the Dreamliner are those bloody windows that only dim to about 90%. If your traveling late afternoon with the sun streaming in, it's incredibly bright and hot. I, like many, had to resort to jamming the emergency card (and what ever else we could find) to block the light into the corner of the window to get some rest.

I had the opposite problem. Daytime flight from Tokyo and Jetstar dimmed the windows and forced darkness upon us for the entire flight!

@piggybank: Thats so you can sleep and therefore bother the flight attendants less…

        • @piggybank:

I've been on that flight too…… The cabin was also dark, but the person Next to the windows could un-dim the shades of they wanted to.

        • @ash2000:

Not throughout the entire flight. The cabin (sensibly) has a master override. During takeoff landing they are un-dimmed 100% and during sleeping hours they are dimmed fully.

A marvellous invention that stops all the flight attendants having to ask passengers to do it, and also lets you enjoy views in the middle of the dare in which it would otherwise be too bright to see.

Any deals on a way back to bangkok or are we stuck there

Good one way price. If you're in the habit of travelling AUS-EU at least once a year, you could use this one way as a positioning fare and then nest return flights to Australia originating in Europe.

Generally once you add luggae the flights start to get into the range of a cheap etihad flight.

both offer the same narrow seats with minimal leg room. the joys of 9 abreast 787 witht he 10 across 777 and soon we'll see 11 across a380s with a 3 5 3 layout.

i wonder where economy flying becomes so miserable people refuse to subject themselves to it?

My thoughts exactly. The configuration by Jetstar and Norwegian would IMO be excruciating.

Note also that Norwegian has quite difficult connections to/from Oslo. You can't, for instance, connect through to Little Britain or many real-Europe destinations when coming from BKK (and vice versa), meaning either a stop in the gorgeous priceyness of Norway, or having risky bookings with other carriers for your further travel.

  • I like the idea of this, I had great hopes for this sort of thing when air Asia were flying to England.
If you were 18 and on a shoestring budget this would be cool, but like others have said once you add the extras and factor in the reduced comfort, I'd prefer a full service airline.
You can fly to London with Thai with a free bkk hotel stopover for $1200
I've seen lax LHR flights with Norwegian for $400 that would make for a different stopover if you got a SYD LAX $900 flight
