FREE Burgers for Life (if You Change Your Last Name to 'Burger') @ Mr Burger [VIC]

2674

We like to have fun at Mr Burger. And giving someone burgers for life if they change their last name to ‘Burger’ seems about the most fun thing we can do.

So we’re doing it, and here are the details.

How to enter:

– Change your last name to ‘Burger’ via this handy form

Men, women & gender non-specific over the age of 18 can enter. We’ll even cover the application fee, once you’ve done the deed.

– Send us an email with a copy of the name change confirmation from the Australian Government.

– There can be more than one winner, it’s not just the first person to change their name!

– "Free Burgers for Life" constitutes 7 free "Mr Burger" burgers a week (per person)

Surely somebody from the OzBargain community will Broden this!

THis has now been cancelled by the Vic Government

      • sounds like you'd be stuck with it for a year!

On the change of name form:

        Multiple changes
A person may only change their name once in a 12 month
period and 3 times in their lifetime (subject to the discretion
        of the Registrar).

        • You have the form now fill it in ;)

        • +3

          @strangeloops66:

There's one more condition…. again, from the form itself:

The success of your application will require you to:
          • provide a clear reason for your chosen name

I'm not sure how the real reason would go down at the Registry!

  • +8

If I was homeless and hungry I would totally jump on to this!

    • +48

someone go to the store location. find the first homeless guy nearby. tell them about the deal. pay for their name change.

ultimate "give a man a burger feed him for a day. change a mans name to burger feed him for a lifetime"

      • hahah you sir should get a noble prize for this (claps)

  • +4

If this was America - there'd be heaps of loonies changing their names

  • I don't even know what to say.. yes?

  • +8

Just pm'd all my homeless pals

  • i'd totally do this if you were in WA. my parents divorced ages ago and i'm still left with my hopeless father's name :p

    • -2

      Hey hey hey,
I sent you a Christmas card
      What more do you want
      It's called free range parenting

  • +6

Best situation would be if you were engaged to a Burger and were going to change your surname anyway.

  • +1

If you're not guaranteed to win the free burgers even if you change your name, does this make it a competition rather than a deal?

  • +4

jeez i messed up i renamed myself berger do you think they will honour the deal ? my first name is han

  • Anybody get stuck at the declaration stage? Going to a justice of the peace, etc is very time consuming.

  • -5

How if they no longer wanted to honour their promise, and started lacing your burgers with arsenic or the likes? Anything can happen - it's a definite NO from me. Lol.

  • +4

Most expensive burger is the Mr. Double for $15.
This Burger everyday for a week would normally cost you $105.00
The fee to change your name is $101.40.
You're already up after one week of eating burgers.
Disclaimer: Money you save on burgers may need to go towards gym membership and higher health insurance.

    • +4

T&Cs say they'll cover the application cost for the name change

      • +1

My breakdown is for those who want to take up the offer temporarily. You'll need to pay the fee once you've had enough of eating burgers (or realise it was a bad choice) and want your original name back.

Also, incase another store has a similar offer and you require to make another name change.

    • -4

Most expensive burger is the Mr. Double for $15.

How many days are there in your weeks?

      • +7

Math checks out. How many days are in yours? XD

        • +1

I think I read $150 for a week and my brain farted.

      • …7?

    • You also need to factor in the cost of changing your name with various govt departments and service providers (banks etc). You don't just register a name change and it flows through to anywhere else.

Just about everywhere does it free if you're changing your name at the time of being married. But not if if you're simply changing your name for another reason. So you need to add in all the costs of many certified copies of the name change certificates, certified copies of your ID documents and replacement costs for them well as the fees you'll be paying for the name change. Plus your time, it will take a crapload of it

If it was simple, we'd all have the last name burger already

  • can i name my upcoming baby "first name, burger" and give birth certificate as evidence? i changed name from nothing to burger… counts right??? riiighhht? then my baby can claim the burgers for me

      • over the age of 18 can enter
  • too late: http://www.whitepages.com.au/residential/results?name=burger…

but I guess they don't have the certificate….

  • +25

It is a shame that my first name is Angus.. so if I change. it becomes "Angus Burger"!!

    • +4

      you mean opportunity

  • +12

Would it be possible to get a homeless person to enter this, that way they are guaranteed at least 1 thing to eat per day.

  • +3

This is viral marketing idea, they want to get on the news so they think of something ridiculous. Pretty smart actually.

I wouldn't do it because I will most likely end up in the ER from eating too much burger!

  • I need to know daily quantities allowed before I commit to this

    • 1

    • The terms and conditions say 7 per week, so you could get one per day if you go every day, or as many as 7 in one day if you only go once per week.

  • -5

This is a competition not a bargain!

  • +3

Reminds me of the Bobs Burgers episode where Teddy thought Bobs name was Bobs Burgers

  • If any of you maniacs do this please post showing us

  • +3

I think Peter File will jump at this opportunity…

  • +6

Seriously considering this. Mr burger is my favorite burger restaurant.

Will speak with the missus tonight

    • +3

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

      • Maybe he's just making sure that she shares his surname so their friends + coworkers aren't confused.

  • Check the White Pages !
Already a few BURGERS out there !

    • rule 18: Finally, if your last name is already "Burger", you won't be able to enter into this competition, but we'd love to reward your awesome name with a few vouchers, on us. Get in touch with us!

  • +3

What if your last name is Baguette? Does that count? / Asking for a friend.

  • What if already have a surname of Burger???

    • +1

      read the t&c's

      • +6

        Phone is fine.

    • You:
      1. change your name to Smith
      2. then back to Burger
      3. profit

  • +3

Well, this deal is good for Poor and Hungry people, NOTHING to loose…

    • Yeah but it's not free to change your name. You do know that and yes they do lose $101.40 as mentioned by the DoJ

      • They cover the cost of the change

        • Provided you win

        • +2

@nightelves: Yea after learning it's a competition. Meh

        • +1

          @guy incogneto:

wait, where does it say they will cover the cost if you win? in the t&c it says

Mr Burger will not cover any costs incurred in getting new identification subsequent to the successful change of name.

        • @nightelves:

"The total number of winners is 10, with the first 10 successful and verified applicants awarded the prize"

Doesn't seem like it would be too hard to win!

        • +1

          @CVonC:

Read point 11 of the T&C

        • @nightelves:

          Lol completely missed that

        • @rtassone:

It says this in the how to enter details

          How to enter:

          – Change your last name to ‘Burger’ via this handy form.
Men, women & gender non-specific over the age of 18 can enter. We’ll even cover the application fee, once you’ve done the deed.

    • +1

I'm going to change mine to "Large Burger Combo"

  • +1

    Lets do that Maths.

Family of 2+2, change everyone's name.

Dinner only for 7 days a week.

A Mr Burger Burger is $10.

    $10 x 4 peeps x 7 days = $280 / week = $14,560 / year = $145k in 10 years.

At 6 months , you would have already made back your Deed Poll fees.

What Ozbargain bargain can net six figures of value in ten years?

    • +5

you're assuming this place will still be in business in 10 years.

      • +2

Also assuming that you havent had a heart attack ;)

        • +1

Also assuming you spend $40 on dinner every night.

        • +1

@Putnum: Also assuming everyone in family wins..

    • +1

One burger every day… chances are you would get sick of burgers really quickly and give up, or develop a diet related disease, thus making your "lifetime" membership a little shorter than you imagine.

  • +1

Is there a deal to change surname to Ferrari?

  • +2

What if I just change my Gamertag ?
Will you pay my power bill ?

  • I'm Sri Lankan and of Burgher lineage, does that count?

Anyway, their Gluten Free bun is absolutely terrible. 8-Bit do a pretty good one, as does Huxtaburger, so it's a no deal for me.

  • +2

Am I allowed to neg this as it's not worth the "intangible" cost? lol

  • +1

    can't be arsed.

  • +1

Kinda dodgey they don't say how many winners there will be.
I'm sure a few people will actually do this.
I'd say the biggest restriction is the limited locations Mr Burger has.
Are their burgers even any good?
Anyway this isn't a bargain, it's a competition. Move it to the forums.

    • +1

Their burgers are very average, although I've only eaten from the food-truck, so maybe the restaurant is better.

      Their chips are pretty good.

    • The total number of winners is 10, with the first 10 successful and verified applicants awarded the prize.

      It's in the T&C

  • +6

John Burgess should take this up and become baby John Burgers

  • Worth it.

  • I have a question for those that have experience changing their names.

One of the questions asks why you want that particular last name. How good of a reason do you really need? What if you just like it?
