2674

We like to have fun at Mr Burger. And giving someone burgers for life if they change their last name to ‘Burger’ seems about the most fun thing we can do.

So we’re doing it, and here are the details.

How to enter:

– Change your last name to ‘Burger’ via this handy form

Men, women & gender non-specific over the age of 18 can enter. We’ll even cover the application fee, once you’ve done the deed.

– Send us an email with a copy of the name change confirmation from the Australian Government.

– There can be more than one winner, it’s not just the first person to change their name!

– "Free Burgers for Life" constitutes 7 free "Mr Burger" burgers a week (per person)

Surely somebody from the OzBargain community will Broden this!

THis has now been cancelled by the Vic Government

  • Just read the T&C,… Tasmania EXCLUDED AGAIN!!!!!

    1. Change surname to Burger.
    2. Change surname back to original.
    3. Profit.
    • Or click the link and read:

You’ll be entitled to a burger a day for the rest of your life (or for as long as you retain the last name ‘Burger’).

      • read my comment above would it work? How to prove your name? Through ID right?

  • -7

How will you ensure that you'll be around for the rest of the winner's life to fulfill your end of the bargain? Have you set up a trust fund or something equivalent to ensure this?

If you have I will change my vote.

The government should get all the homeless to change their names to Burger. Free feed for life.

    • +6

      Imagine that.

Shorten promises all homeless to have last name "Burger" if voted into office in 2016 election.

In 2078: "Why do you have the last name Burger?"
"Well, you see, it's a funny story, my grandfather…"

  • The best deals are these ones where everyone can take advantage of it with ease.

  • +3

This is a crappy competition being used to advertise on ozbargain. Definitely not front page worthy

    • yup….looks like the 'crazy fun times' marketing is working looking at the + count

  • +1

Just changed. Now becomes King Burger…

fantastic WOM campaign and OZB went hook line and sinker.
Wouldn't think of this as a bargain due to the T&Cs as well as the time and effort it would take to get a free highly processed (yet yummy) burger. Also adding the limitations of their location I would not find it attractive.

Maybe for a young kid/uni student that loves paperwork and looking to fast track themselves to obesity

  • Funny deal, too bad their burgers are my second least favourite. I'd rank them lower than a Big Mac/Whooper. I've only tried the food truck Mr Burger but I assume it's the same as the store one.

My most hated burger is anything sold by Lord of the Fries but they are veg burgers, so they don't count.

    • No way man. You must have had a terrible truck. These burgers are great, maybe try one of their stores instead. The chicken is top notch, and I normally don't rate chicken burgers all that much. Beef is also very good, I like the Mr Hot.

Definitely not my favourite of all time, but a solid burger nonetheless.

  • What if I name my newborn Burger?

  • It's made the news, this company is making the most of a free promotion. Good on them!

  • Bugger

  • I worked with a guy whose surname was Hamburger. Surely he would qualify, without all the messy paperwork.

Unfortunately it would not be the best way to touch base with someone via Linkedin after all this time, so I can only lament the missed opportunity.

Honestly - how stupid is this? Would anyone really consider getting 7 burgers/week for free worth the hassle and expense of changing passport, bank accounts, driver's license etc. etc.? Not to mention the health implications of ingesting a lifetime (where "lifetime" = the time these ridiculous people will keep this business going) of ingesting garbage?

    Yes there's "fun" - and then there's banal silliness….

    • "Yes there's "fun" - and then there's banal silliness…."

      This IS OzBargain after all…

    • nonsense, if you change your child's name, the hassle of changing the few documents in their name makes it well worth your time.

    • +1

I think its actually a very very smart marketing idea. It's probably purposely absurd so that they get the viral marketing without costing too much. It would probably cost a lot more if they just gave out coupons, since anyone would quality for it.

Don't forget to wear ya burger holders when you go to claim your prize!

Finally a genuine deal rather than the BS "burger plus minus" deals people rort Maccas with…

  • Send us an email with a copy of the name change confirmation from the Australian Government.

Not going to happen. Best you can hope for is confirmation from the Victorian government.

I'm kinda screwed … my name is ALREADY Mr Berger … it's pronounced the same, just the spelling is different … I should get a burger a day for life just for putting up with all the jokes!

Best way to make use of this is, signup for a life insurance worth $10M, change your last name to burger, burgers everyday, give it a year tops to do major damage, claim insurance, instant millionaire. :)

    • +1

You go first. We're all rooting for ya.

  • +1

I bet they'll close up in a year or two, and won't honor the lifetime deal.

  • +5

Should be in the forums… or on today tonite. Not here.

  • +3

They should offer this to homeless people to help feed them if they are just giving away burgers anyway

    • That's a really good point

    • -2

Like as if the free dole was not enough… the people 'really in need of food' could change their name…

  • "Broden"… lol, since the good old days.

I'm half keen, but if Kfc matches this promo, I'll change it to zinger.

Also if we change back a week later is the deal void?

  • Phone is fine?

  • Change your name to house burger that way you have food and shelter.

  • Any name match at OW?

  • i remember back in highschool, legal studies class… absolutely losing it after we were reading a case involving the former director-general of Queensland Corrective Services 'Keith Hamburger'

he'd have to lose the 'ham'

  • +1

What if my surname already is Burger?

    • What if you read the T&C? Or the thread?

  • +3

This might be incredibly helpful for someone who is homeless and worries more about their next meal than their surname.

Although they would need some help with an address to use to get their name change documents sent to. Someone could use this as an opportunity to help someone else out.

    • 47 people/couples with a Sensis listing. Some Burgers may not have a landline phone or wish to advertise the fact that they have one.

  • +2

I would change my name to FYouMr Burger and claim the prize just to annoy them ;-)

    • +1

      …we have a winner!

  • +2

Apparently they had to cancel the campaign

    • …and by "lawful offence" they mean "bogan offence"

    • Didn't Budha Hocking legally change his name to Whiskas for a game to promote cat food? Assuming that was in Vic (as he played for Geelong), how is this any different??

  • April fools came late?

  • I cannot imagine a more legit reason for changing your name than for free burgers for life.

  • That's a shame. I was looking forward to seeing thousands of OzBargainers adopt the Burger last name. Could have become a real family.
