  • why is this mouse always on special?

I bought one thinking I got a deal but it seems to be on quite frequently

    • I lol'd at this

      There are numerous reasons…
      - Because it has been priced poorly since introduction. The g502 is the same mouse, and is often 10-20 bucks less.
      - People like me coming from a years old g500 already bought the g502 not long after launch, we're not suddenly going to fork out more for the same mouse but with RGB LED.
      - People would prefer a better mouse without RGB LED (Gamdias, Steelseries, Mionix, etc)

      • I see.

Also I think I just got a 502 not this one

Good price, paid ~$81 (delivered) a few weeks ago.

  • Does anyone else have problems installing the software for this? My PC locks up every time I try to install it.

No problem for me. I am running Windows 10 x64.

      • Hmm same here. I'll download it again and see what happens.

For anyone interested, I've had this mouse for a couple of weeks now and it's great. The only draw back I have is that my fingers are quite fat so i have to unbind the two mouse buttons beside the left click, otherwise I'm constantly bumping them which changes the DPI, also my thumb doesn't fit so well in thumb-rest on the left side. Besides that, the sensor and buttons are very nice.

  • This is really good mouse but, if you can get 501 better get that, I get that one for $ 50 before 502 come out,I want to buy 1 more for work but bloody hell now 502 so expensive

This is a great mouse, I have the non rgb 502, and is great for big hands. Has a great thumb rest unlike the razer death adder for example.
    Also a nice braided cable.
And it also has adjustable weights if your hand is super weak (for some reason haha).
But overall is a great mouse!

    • I wish I'd got the non-RGB TBH, the LED is annoying when you aren't using Windows to turn it off. About the only thing I don't like about it.

    • You must be piss poor weak? The whole idea of adjustable weights is to adjust the weight to your liking.

    • I'm not really sure how you can say stupidly heavy or atrocious scroll wheel. Unless you didn't figure out how to change scroll wheel modes or something lel …

      • +1

Yes obviously the mouse has two scroll wheel modes. Is it a feature that whilst in the free flow mode the whole wheel assembly rattles and vibrates through the mouse when you move it side-to-side?

        • Not on mine.

        • No, he's right, it does rattle a bit if you have it free scroll mode and rapidly move it side to side. But if your gaming why would you bother having it in free scroll mode? The free scroll is too loose for gaming it'll move a bit if you even lightly hit it from the side by accident. Free scroll is great for regular use though. Also, Shrapse try removing All the weights, after years of using the tiny logitech M325 mouse the G502 did feel a bit heavy with the weights on but you get used to it after a bit. This mouse is really comfy for people with medium sized hands, larger hands may have trouble.

    • To be fair even with all of the optional weights removed I find this mouse to be fairly heavy. Not to the point of it being a pain, but I do sometimes wish it were a little lighter.

Ignore Shrapse's mouse wheel comment, he/she is just repeating what some reviewers have said about it being heavy and quite a slippery finish, which will cause you to make mistakes when scrolling - I haven't had this issue.

      Hand-feel is subjective.

  • This was my response to another user last time it was one sale. I've owned the Proteus Core (just blue) version for a while now (couple of years).

"It's a very comfortable mouse for casual gaming. I've used it for extended periods without any pains whatsoever. Keep in mind, my grip on a mouse is somewhere between a palm and a claw grip. I rest the "ball" of my palm on the mouse and have my fingers set similar to a cricket spin-bowl grip.

There is textured grips on the side that help with thumb/lateral finger pressure. Also useful with use of the macro buttons on the side. In saying that, the side buttons aren't directly on the side, they sit on a slight angle towards the edge of the mouse. Very easy to press with either thumb or index finger depending on what you assign where. I honestly don't use the macro buttons often, but then if I trained myself, I could get used to them.

The biggest plus is the interchangeable weighting system underneath. I have a fairly heavy grip with my thumb so need more weight on the lateral aspect of the mouse. Full weight was too cumbersome over time, and no weight was way too light, like I needed the weight for feedback. I've figured I need the two weights near the "heal" of the mouse and one more towards the lateral side. So, 3/5 weights used.

The biggest feature I use regularly is the free-spin/click-spin of the mousewheel. There's a nicely placed switch-button below the mousewheel that engages the click or free-spin. I free-spin for documents and web browsing, but when gaming, set to click so I don't go past the next item I need. Very handy indeed.

I love the mouse, can't find a problem with it. All I can say is go find a model in a shop and give it a feel (or ask an assistant to check one out). Play with the weights, press the buttons, give it a good going over."

  • got it for $39 at dick smith over a year ago, this a very good mouse

    • +1

You got the older one which is very similar.

  • I'd never go back with a mouse with a cord.

My current mouse, that I've had a zillion years, has two AA batteries, and the receiver / base is a battery charger.

So when the batteries in the mouse go flat it's ten seconds to flip them out, change them over with the charged ones in the base, and back to work !

    TL;DR…. Cordless mice only :)
